?< v ST . GEORGE'S LODGE , No . 242 , DONCASTER . NOT many months ago we were enabled to give a sucoinot history of the St . Hilda's Lodge , No . 240 , South Shields , on the occasion of its centenary anniversary . We are now in a position to add one more to our series of Lodge Histories , that of the St . George ' s Lodge , No . 242 , of Doncaster , for the particulars of whioh we are in great measure indebted to the columns of the Doncaster Chronicle .

It is , of course , in the nature of things that Freemasonry should flourish like a green bay-tree throughout the whole of the large county of York . Its chief city is inseparably connected with the history of onr Craft , and although the old Grand Lodge of York passed away towards the close of last century , it has left behind it

a name which will endure as long as Freemasonry exists . The two Provinces into which the county is divided must have between them some ninety Lodges , and no less than twenty-six of these were in existence before the Union of 1813 . West Yorkshire , on the roll of which the St . George's Lodge holds so respected a place , is most

regular and most liberal in its contributions to oar Grand-Institutions , and N . and E . Yorkshire highly distinguished itself last February , when its G . Master , the Earl of Zetland , occupied the chair at the Anniversary Festival of the Eoyal Masonic Benevolent Institution , an example which we feel confident will be followed by its western
