Else , who was unavoidably absent on Masonic business , the ceremony of installation was impressively performed by Bro . R . H . Hoyle P . M . 437 .

BENEVOLENCE LODGE , No . 489 . THERE was a large gathering at the Masonic Hall , Bideford , on Thursday , 16 th ult ., when Brother Edward Trapnell was installed Worshipful Master for the ensuing year . The ceremony was impressively performed by his predecessor in the chair Bro . E . Rouse assisted by Bro . J . C . Clark P . M .

VIRTUE AND HONOUR LODGE , No . 494 . THE members met at their Lodge Rooms , Axminster , on 14 th ult . After the Lodge had been opened by Bro . R . Sonthwood W . M ., and the usual business transacted , he proceeded to instal Bro . Frederick William Moass as W . M . for the ensuing year .

PERSEVERANCE LODGE , No . 573 . AT the ordinary meeting , at Halesowen , Bro . Bryce W . M . presented Bro . A . Pearson P . P . G . S . with a very handsomely inscribed loving cup , in recognition of valuable services rendered by him as Treasurer of the Lodge for thirteen years . The recipient suitably acknowledged the kindness of his colleagues .

LODGE OF FAITH , No . 581 . THE regular meeting was held at the Gransmoor Hotel , Openshaw , on Wednesday , the 15 th ult ., Brother Joseph-Lever W . M . There was an attendance of about forty . After the confirmation of minutes , a ballot , which was successful , was

taken for Mr . William Nelson , Machinery Glass Manufacturer , Fairfield , and he was duly initiated into antient Freemasonry by the W . M ., the working tools being presented and explained by the S . W . Following this was the passing to the degree of F . C . of Bro . Thomas E . Watson , the ceremony being performed by Bro . Barnes P . M . Bro . Adshead J . W . presented the working tools .

The usual festive board followed , Loyal and Masonio toasts being varied by songs , recitations , & c , given by various Brethren . In reply to the toast of tlie Past Masters , Bro . Barnes said he regretted

there was not a larger attendance in this direction . When present , however , they were willing to place their services at the disposal of the Lodge , and would assist as he had endeavoured to do that day . Other toasts followed .

INDEPENDENCE LODGE , No . 721 . THE installation of Bro . T . J . Powell took place on Monday , 13 th ult ., at Chester , and his popularity was shown by the presence of a large number of present and past Provincial Officers , P . Ms ., and Brethren . The

ceremony was performed by Brother Alfred Wild Worshipful Master , whose past services were spoken of in eulogistic terms , the Worshipful Master begging his acceptance of a Past Master ' s jewel as a slight recognition of those servicesand as a memento of his year of office .

Piper performed the installation ceremony , after which the new W . M . Bro . Rowan appointed his Officers .

GOSPORT LODGE , No . 903 . THE annual meeting was held at the India Arms Hotel , High Street , Gosport , on Tuesday , 14 th ult ., when Bro . James Maling was installed W . M . by the retiring Master Bro . W . J . Jago .

At the conclusion of the ceremony a vote of thanks was accorded to the Installing Master for the able manner in which he carried out his duties , and a jewel was presented to him by Bro . Maling , on behalf of the members , in recognition of his services during his year of office .

THREE GRAND PRINCIPLES LODGE , No . 967 . THE annual meeting was held at Penryn , on Tuesday , 14 th ult ., when Bro . Henry J . Warren HU 1 was impressively installed W . M . by Bro . T . E . Roach the retiring Master . In consequence of the death of Brother G . W . Trenery , one of the oldest Past Masters , the usual banquet was not held .

TREGULLOW LODGE , No . 1006 . THE members celebrated the festival of St . John at Smythe's Hotel , St . Day , on Tuesday , 21 st ult ., when Brother W . R . Cannon S . W . was

installed W . M . by Bro . James Smith the outgoing W . M . Bro . Kinsman Secretary was presented with a valuable Masonic jewel , embracing the threefold features of the Past Master ' s , Secretary ' s , and Treasurer's jewels , and bearing an inscription .

Bro . Kinsman replied , and proposed hearty thanks to the W . M . Brother Smith , for the efficient manner in which he had worked during the year . Bro . Cannon seconded , and the motion was carried with applause . Bro . J . S . Collins P . P . G . S . B . asked the Lodge to accept from Brother Richards , a new member , a fine terrestrial globe on a tripod stand . Brother Richards was thanked , on the motion of Bro . Chas . Tyacke .

A third presentation consisted of a fine portrait of the late Bro . J . Jose , of Millingey , the gift of Bro . Cannon , who , in reply to a resolution of thanks , announced his desire to see their portrait gallery of Past Masters complete . The W . M . appointed his Officers .

Alfred Brown took place at the Masonic Hall , Abbey Road , Barrow-in-Furness , on Tuesday , 14 th ult ., in the presence of a large gathering of Brethren . The ceremony was performed by the retiring W . M . Bro . S . M . S . Townsend , who was presented , on behalf of the Lodge , with a Past Master ' s jewel , as a token of the esteem of the Brethren .
