THE annual meeting of the Devon Masonic Educational Fund is to be held at the Masonic Rooms , Okehampton , on Wednesday , 5 th April , at 2 . 45 p . m . Sir Stafford Northcote , M . P ., Prov . G . M . is the President , Bro . J . R . Lord the Treasurer , and its Secretary is Bro . John B . Gover , who has acted in the most efficient manner from its start . "
Bro . C . Mutten will move that £ 5 be granted towards the advancement in life of a child whose name and circumstances are known to many of the subscribers . There are two candidates for the one vacancy on the Fund , who were unsuccessful at the last election , one having 1 , 086 votes brought forward , and the other nearly 500 .
The Committee desire to call attention to the present condition of the finances , and not a bit too soon , as owing to a decrease in the subscriptions from all sources last year the expenditure has largely exceeded the income . Of course this cannot continue , and hence Brethren and Lodges must either
do more for this excellent society , for which all the Officers and Committee give their services freely , or the number of beneficaries will have to be lessened as the years roll on . It is , however , anticipated there will be a prompt response to this appeal , and that there will be no need to reduce the benefits conferred . — "Western Morning News . "
