The Chapter having been regularly opened by the Principals , the Companions were admitted , and the opening hymn was sung . The Presiding Officer then addressed the assembly as to the object of their meeting . The Crusaders Lodge was consecrated twenty years ago , by the Companion acting as H . that afternoon ,

and it was now thought desirable to have a Chapter in connection with it . The petition had been granted by the Grand _ ., and he hoped that , under the direction of the three Principals designate , the Chapter would flourish and become instrumental in promulgating the genuine principles and tenets of the Order .

The Founders then assembled in the west , and signified their approval of the Officers named in the petition ; and the Warrant was read by Comp . Eichardson . An admirable oration was delivered by Comp . Brownrigg , who pointed a high Masonic moral from the tale of the Crusaders of old ; after which the ceremony proceeded on the usual lines . The musical arrangements of Comp . Egbert Eoberts P . Z . lent additional interest to the function .

Comps . James Speller , W . E . Sutton , and Eeuben Loomes were then installed in the three Principals chairs , and the other Officers were invested , as follow : Comps . William Shurmur Treasurer and acting I . P . Z ., J , H . Collingridge Scribe E ., Fred . Hughes Scribe N ., George Glover P . S ., G . S . Collins and B . M . Moss Assistants , Alfred Haynes D . Shurmur the sum of ten guineas was voted from the funds of the Chapter for the Eoyal Masonic Benevolent Institution . -

Comp . Speller proposed that , as a mark of the appreciation of their services , the Consecrating Officers be elected Honorary Members of the Chapter , and asked their kind acceptance of a Founder ' s jewel . This was seconded and carried unanimously . Comp . Letchworth , on behalf of himself and colleagues , returned his sincere thanks for the compliment , and said the jewel would form a charming souvenir of a most interesting

. Several letters of regret for absence were read by Scribe , E ., notably from Comps . F . A . Philbriek , 0 . E . Keyser , A . Balling , & c . There being no other business the Chapter was closed in due form , and the company adjourned to tbe Queen ' s Saloon , where the banquet was served . The book of the proceedings formed a handsome little volume , bound in red morocco , and was much admired .

The customary Loyal and Eoyal Arch toasts were given by Comp . Speller , and received with acclamation by the Companions . In proposing the Consecrating Officers , the M . E . Z . said they had all been delighted with the manner in which the ceremony had been performed , and especially with the oration of Companion Brownrigg . They were also greatly pleased to be honoured by the presence of Comp . Terry , who had consecrated the Crusaders Lodge twenty years ago .

Comp . Brownrigg , in response , said it was always a pleasure to him to be present and assist in consecrating a Eoyal Arch Chapter , in which he took considerable interest . There was a time when Arch Masonry was in a languishing condition , but they were now getting a large number of recruits , a result which fully justified the action of Grand Chapter in reducing the period of probation .

Comp Terry also reponded with one of his genial humorous speeches , in which he narrated how the Lodge came to be named after the Crusaders . He naturally was much gratified that a Chapter was now attached to the Lodge , and trusted that it would grow until it became one of the best in the metropolis .

Comp . Brownrigg , in flattering terms , submitted the health of the first M . E . Z . of the Chapter . It was always an anxious time for the first Officers , but Comp . Speller ' s previous experience would stand him in good stead , and he had every confidence that under his control the Chapter would prosper and flourish .

Comp . Speller gracefully acknowledged the compliment , and thanked the proposer for his good wishes . He then asked the Companions to drink to the health of tbe Second and Third Principals , both good and worthy Eoyal Arch Masons , who would work zealously to promote the prosperity of the Chapter .
