Curtis , who has lately been promoted to the rank of Quarter-Master of tho " First Surrey , " was compelled to offer his resignation as Secretary . Bro . W . J . Messenger P . M . having kindly accepted the vacant office , was appointed and invested by tho W . M . Bro . S . H . Wagstaff stated that at the ensuing regnlar meeting he should give notice of motion

that the zealous services of tho late Secretary , Bro . Curtis , be recognised by tho presentation of an illuminated vellum inscription , expressive of thanks and regard ; and Bro . James Stevens stated that he proposed to move at thafc meeting that a retiring pension , equal to two-thirds of the nsual fees , be voted to Bro . Grant , now ill and infirm , for his ten years' service as Tyler to the Lodge . The

Lodge was then closed with hymnal jinalv , and the brethren adjour led to the Canteen , where the services of Bro . A . Kethro , tho worthy Sergeant Major and Sutler of the Corps , were called into requisition , and the demands of appetite appeased . A very agreeable and unceremonious hour or two subsequently assisted digestion , and promoted harmony and good fellowship , and another successful gathering was placed to the already large scoro of Macdonald meetings .

Duke of Connaught Lodge of Instruction , No . 1524 . —This Lodge hold its weekly meeting ou Wednesday evening , the 29 th ult ., at Bro . G . Ferrar ' s , the Havelock Tavern , Albion-road , Dalston . Present—Bros . E . Dignam W . M ., J . Lorkin S . W ., Woolloy J . W ., Francis S . D ., McMillan J . D , G . Ferrar I . G ., W . was opened in ancient form , and minntes of tho previous meeting read and confirmed . Bro . U . Lorkin , having boon interrogated , was entrusted , and on tho Lodge boing opened in tho 2 nd degree , tho ceremony of passing was very ably rehearsed by tho W . M . Tho sections of the lecture belonging to tho degree wero then worked by Bro .

Fieldwick , assisted by the brethren . Bro . J . Lorkin was unanimously appointed W . M . for the ensuing week . Efficient stewards wero nominated for the Lodge dinner , which will take place on Wednesday , the 10 th of October . Brethren wishing to be present shonld make early application for tickets , which can bo obtained of Bro . G . Ferrar , as above , or of the Secretary .

The Eoyal Alfred Lodge of Instruction . —This Lodge held its usual meeting on Friday , the 24 th of August , at the Stai and Garter Hotel , Kew Bridge . Present : —Bros . Gardiner W . M ., Kyezor S . W ., ' Gomm J . W ., Blasby S . D . and Sec , Tucker Treas ., Seward J . D ., Tucker I . G . ; Bros . Roe P . M ., Castello , Irwin , Fisher , & c . Business—Lodge was opened at 7 . 30 in regular form . The minutes of last meeting having been duly confirmed , tho Lodge was

opened to tho third degree , and resumed to tho first . Bro . Fisher then offered himself for advancement . The Lodge was resumed to the second degree , and Bro . Fisher was passed . Bro . Gardiner received the thanks of the brethren for tho very impressive manner in which he had performed tho ceremonies . Bro . Kyezor was appointed W . M . for tho ensning Friday . Officers in rotation . Tho Lodge waa then closed with solemn prayer , and adjourned until Friday , the 31 st August , afc 7 . 30 p . m .

Woolley , candidate to be raised , was examined , entrusted , and retired . Lodge opened in 3 rd degree ,

ceremony rehearsed , and tracing board explained . Lodge closed in the 3 rd degree . Lodge called off from labour to refreshment . Lodge resumed and closed in 2 nd degree . Bros . J . U . Francis 1598 and J . J . Woolley 1 G 04 ( Wanderers ) were unanimously elected members of this Lodge of Instruction . Bro . T . Goode appointed W . M . for ensuing week . Officers in rotation .

Lebanon Lodge , No . 1326 . —The last regular meeting of the season was held on Saturday , 18 th August , afc the Red Lion Hotel , Hampton . Bro . C . W . Fox W . M ., supported by Bros . R . W . opened and the minutes of the last regular meeting , hold on Saturday , 21 st July , aud of the emergency meeting held on Saturday , 4 th August , wero each pufc to the meeting , and were in both cases unanimously confirmed . Bro . C . W . Fox , in an ablo and efficient manner , initiated BIr . H . Rofley into tho mysteries and privileges of ancient Freemasoury . The R . W . P . G . M . Bro . Col . F . Bardetfc here

arrived , and was received with all honours . Bro . F . Walters then took the chair , and in his usual able manner passed one and raised two brethren . Bro . C . W . Fox then resumed the chair , and presided over the Lodgo for tho remainder of the afternoon . Some candidates were proposed for initiation . Notice of motion was given by Bro .

J . B . Shackleton to voto ten pounds from tho Lodge funds to the Royal Benevolent Institution for Aged Freemasons aud Widows of Freemasons . Tho Lodge was closed and adjourned to Saturday , 18 th May 1878 . The usual banquet followed . Tho regular toasts wero given and responded to .
