— : o : — METEOPOLITAN . r \ RICHMOND LODGE , No . 2032 . ON the recent birth of a grandson to tbe Most Worshipful the Grand Master the W . M . of the Lodge Bro . S . Abell called a Lodge of Emergency , and forwarded a resolution of congratulation on the auspicious event , of which the following is a copy : ' To His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales , K . G ., Most Worshipful Grand Master .

May it please your Royal Highness . —At a specially summoned Lodge of Emergency of the Richmond Lodge of Freemasons , No . 2032 , held at the Masonic Hall , Greyhound Hotel , Richmond , on Tuesday , the 17 th day of July 1894 , the Master , Wardens ,

and Brethren of the Lodge resolved most respectfully to offer to your Royal Highness their sincere and fraternal congratulations on the occasion of the birth of your Royal Highness ' s grandson , the son and heir of their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of York , born at White Lodge , Richmond Park .

WOODGRANGE LODGE OF INSTRUCTION , No . 2409 . THE summer recess was broken for a pleasant purpose , the members meeting on Friday , the 17 th ult ., says the " East London Observer , " to make a presentation to Bro . 0 . E . Riche , the Secretary of the Lodge , prior to his wedding , fixed for the following Wednesday .

Bro . Hardwick W . M . occupied the chair , and made the presentation in brief but felicitous terms , alluding to the successful manner in which Bro . Riche had carried out the duties of Hon . Secretary since the formation of the Lodge . These words met with warm support , and were echoed in speeches by Bros . A . R . Trew P . M ., Larter P . M . and R . Tucker P . M ., whilst they received the heartiest applause from all the Brethren present .

¦ The presentation consisted of a handsome drawing-room timepiece and a liqueur stand , bearing a brief but expressive inscription , denoting appreciation of services rendered . Bro . Riche , in happy words , expressed his thanks for the . kindly feeling shown , and the good wishes offered for his future , and added that for his part

he had not the slightest doubt about the matter . The proceedings throughout were of a thoroughly hearty character , every member present joining in wishing health and happiness to their Hon . Secretary and the lady of his choice . The Lodge of Instruction will resume its weekly meetings on the 7 th inst . o o o

PROVINCIAL .

STRAWBERRY HILL LODGE , No . 946 . THIS Lodge held its usual meeting on the Sth ult ., at the Town Hall , Twickenham , under the presidency of the W . M . Bro . F . R . Robinson , who worked the three degrees in admirable manner , after which the Brethren adjourned to banquet at the King's Head Hotel .

The usual Loyal and Masonic toasts , with some excellent singing and recitations , were afterwards given , under the direction and personal assistance of Bro . Stephen Abell W . M . 2032 , who also returned thanks for the toast of the Visitors .

o o o KING HAROLD LODGE , No . 1327 . THE Annual meeting was hold at the Four Swans Hotel , Waltham Cross , on Thursday , the 16 th ult ., when a good company of members and visitors attended . One pleasing part of

the business was to present the out-going Worshipful Master , Bro . Wm . Metcalfe , of Waltham New Town , with a handsome 18-carat gold Past Master ' s jewel ( one more addition to the many Masonic honours displayed on the breast of this distinguished member of the Order ) .

The newly-elected Worshipful Master , Bro . Herbert Smith , was installed in ancient form . After Lodge business , thc Brethren , about sixty in all , sat down to the installation banquet , and full justice was dono to the . splendid menu provided by Host Tydeman . The toast list was of the usual character .

o o o LLANIDLOES LODGE , No . 1582 . ON Wednesday , the 15 th ult ., the Lodge was hospitably entertained to luncheon and dinner by Col . Lloyd-Verney , J . P ., at Clochfaen . A special Lodge was held at 11 a . m ., in the Lodge-room

Trewythen Hotel , to initiate Mr . Harry Lloyd-Verney . Afterwards tho Officers and members drove up to Clochfaen . The interval between luncheon and dinner was happily spent in various pursuits and pastimes according as the fancy of each dictated—some tempted the wily trout , some took snapshots at the picturesque scenery , others rambled over the hills . The Brethren were photographed in full Masonic costume by Col . Lloyd-Verney and Bro . A . J . Morris W . M .

With appetites sharpened by exercise and keen mountain air the company , to the number of about 18 , sat down to a sumptuous dinner , after which a choice selection of music , vocal and instrumental , was contributed by Col . Verney and his family . and the guests . Thus ended in harmony oue of the pleasantest days in the history of the Lodge . o o o

OBEDIENCE LODGE , No . 1753 . TH E Installation meeting was held at the White Hart Hotel , Okehampton , on Monday , when Bro . Charles Piper waa installed W . M ., and invested his Officers . Bro . W . A . Gregory was appointed representative on the Committee of Petitions and Charity Stoward . The annual banquet was afterwards held . o o o

AGRICOLA LODGE , No . 1991 . THE members and their friends had an enjoyable excursion on Wednesday of last week to Ripon and Hackfall . Tho party left York in a saloon carriage by the 8-50 train . On arrival at Ripon the Brethren and their friends partook of breakfast , after which they were conveyed in waggonettes through a picturesque

district via Tanfield and Masham , to Hackfall . After viewing the romantic scenery there , the party returned by Grewelthorpe to Ripon . A sumptuous dinner was partaken of , presided over by the W . M . Bro . David Young , the usual loyal and other toasts being given . The excursionists returned to York by tho 7 ' 2 train . o o o

in the day of meeting , on account of the W . M .-elect being unable to attend on the regular date . Routine business was then transacted , after which Bro . Buckwell was presented for installation and was duly inducted into the chair by his predecessor , Brother Lamette , who performed the work in a creditable and gratifying manner .

Bro . Buckwell invested the assistant Officers , congratulating each on his appointment , as follows : Howe S . W ., Tickle J . W ., Bury M . O ., Alway S . O ., Goldney J . O ., Clarke R . M ., Challis Sec , Glainton S . D ., Soper J . D ., Smale I . G ., Fenner D . C . Bro . Lamette and Bro . Wright gave the different addresses in a manner that elicited the warmest praise .

A Past Master ' s jewel was voted to Bro . Lamette in recognition of his valuable services for the past year ; a Joining Member was proposed by the W . M . ; and other business was transacted , after which the Lodge was closed .

The Brethren adjourned to the usual banquet , which was well served . At its conclusion the toast list was honoured , the good wishes of the company being tendered to the W . M . for a successful year of office .

The Southdown Lodge is to be complimented on its excellent working , the harmony of its members , and the beautiful surroundings of its place of meeting .

THE Grand Master of Indian Territory refers in his annual address to the evil of electioneering for office , an evil which seems to have entered some of the subordinate Lodges as well as the

Grand Lodge . He condemns the practice , and makes . strong recommendations against it . A rule has been established in many jurisdictions on this point , making the offence work ineli gibility for office .
