Committee , held on Friday , the 16 th day of November instant , showing a balance in the Bank of England ( Western Branch ) of £ 4026 Os 8 d , and in the hands of tha Graud Secretary for petty cash £ 100 , and for servants' wages £ 100 , and balance of annual allowance for library £ 24 8 s 7 d .

THE installation meeting of thia Lodge was held at the Cannon " street Hotel , City , on Thursday , the 22 nd nit ., when Bro . Wm . John Heath Worshipful Master presided , supported by his Officers . The minutes of the last meeting having been read and confirmed , the Lodge was advanced , and Bros . F . O . Heath and C . Maidment were
passed . The next business was the installation of Bro . George Frederick Edwards , who was placed in the chair by his predecessor , who conducted the ceremony in an eminently satisfactory manner . Having been proclaimed and saluted , the Worshipfnl Master invested tbe following as the Officers of the Lodge : —Bros . F . G .

C ., E . Kidman P . M . Steward , L . G . Bernhardt Tyler . The addresses were then delivered by the Installing Officer , and tbe ceremony of installation was thus brought to a
conclusion amidst the congratulations of all present . Bro . Miller acted as Director of Ceremonies during the installation and rendered good assistance throughout . At a previous stage of the proceedings ofthe evening tbe ballot had been taken for Mr . William Pieraon , a candidate for initiation , and now the new Worshipful Master had an
opportunity of showing the brethren that he was worthy of the trust reposed in him ; he performed the ceremony of the first degree in favour of Mr . Pierson in an eloquent and impressive manner . Eoutine work next claimed attention . It was announced that arrangements bad been made to hold a Masonio Ball under the
auspices of the Lodge , and several brethren gave in their names as Stewards in connection with it . Lodge was then closed and the brethren repaired to tbe banquet . briefly introduced the loyal toasts . In speaking to the third toasttbe Gra 1 . 1 l Officers—the Worshipfnl Master said that his attendance at Grand Lodge had not been so frequent as he could have desired , but on the few occasions when he had presented himself he experienced the difficulties that had to be surmounted when any
special business—such for instance as the election of Grand Treasurer—claimed the attendance of the members of United Gr = > nd Lodge . It was then thafc the limited accommodation provided for the Craft palpably manifested itself ; however , amongst tho Grand Officers were men who were nlvvavs readv on such occasions to do all in their
power to promote the comfort of the members . With tho toast he associated the names of Bro . J . L . Mather and Major Geo . Lambert . The former brother wns tho firs * - , to reply , ancl in doing so expressed the pleasure he afc all times expprirnced in b ^ ing associated with this toast , and with the two eminent nohleinon who were afc the
head of the Grand Officers . I 3 ro . Mather referred to tho efficient workinsr of the Lodge nnd the capihlo manner in which the Installing Officer had acquitted himself . Ho ihank ' d tho Worshipfnl
Master for having giving him the opportun ' ty of spending a most agreeable evening . Major Lambert followed , endorsing what Bro . Mather bad said . Ifc was gratifying to find that the Lodgewhich took its name from one of the luminaries of the
Craft , Brother William Preston , the well known author of the famous " Illustrations of Freemasonry " —was carrying out the work of the Craffc in efficient style . With respect to the " Illustrations" of Bro . William Preston , it was a work that should be studied by all Masonic aspirants . Unfortunately , it was not easily to be obtained ,
but copies were occasionally to be met with by any one desiring to possess it . * It was a matter of deep regret to him , and he might say to many other members of the Craft that the Prestonian Lecture had been allowed to lapse for so many years . He might remind them that ifc was in 1819 that Bro . William Preston , of the
Lodge of Antiquity , bequeathed , amongst other masonic gifts , £ 500 Consols to the Fund of Benevolence , and 300 Consols for the Prestonian Lecture . He was afraid , however , this latter gift had been entirely lost sight of for many years past ; this was much to bo regretted . The I . P . M . proposed the health of the Worshipfnl Master .
