AT a meeting on Thursday of last week of fche Loyal Cambrian Lodge , No . 110 , Merthyr , the desirability of presenting an address to H . E . Position Of The Charities.

POSITION OF THE CHARITIES .

THE following interesting details in regard to the Masonic Institutions were given by Bro . J . M . McLeod , in hia response at the Grand Festival , on Wednesday : All were glad to know that the iirst Festival of the year had proved so successful . as to bring to the youngest—by no means

tbe least meritorious—of the three Institutions the magmficient sum of £ 20 , 000 . The work of the Benevolent Institution in providing Annuities for some 500 distressed Masons or the Widows of deceased Brethren needed no commendation from'him , for if it stood alone it would be a grand monument of our Masonic Charity .

The Girls School Festival will shortly be held , and the President , though young as a Provincial Grand Master , bore an honoured name and . was well beloved in his Province of Lincolnshire , which would nobly support him on the occasion . The Girls had again shown to the Craft how well they were trained and

educated ; and he knew that he was expressing the thoughts of all in saying that on her pending retirement , Miss Davis would carry with her the gratitude and thanks of the whole Craft for the brilliant successes gained under her direction of this most excellent School .

For the Boys , he could claim that so progressive an Institution as it had proved , especially of late years , deserved and would continue to receive their support . The results at recent public examinations which it has been his pride to circulate showed the excellence of the work , for it was seen that

our Boys of very young age could compete and be successful with their seniors . The increased demands upon the Institution had forced the question of removal of the School to the front , and that which was advocated in 1891 by the noble Chairman was at last to be realised . Much care and thought in this matter had been

taken by the Board of Management , consisting as it did of liberalminded and practical business men , and he felt assured fchat the Craffc would support tbem in their efforts to enlarge the scope of operations and give the great benefits fchey were now bestowing to a much larger number in the immediate future .

SOME eighty Brethren attended the annual Provincial Grand Lodge , held . on Monday , at Kington , under the banner of the Arrow Lodge . Sir Joseph Bailey , Bart ., Provincial Grand Master was supported by Bro . H . C . Beddoe Deputy Provincial Grand Master , and a large number of present and past members of fche Provincial Grand Lodge .

A Craft Lodge was opened at 2 * 15 by the W . M . of the Arrow Lodge , and immediately thereafter the Provincial Grand Master and his Officers were announced , and the proceedings of Provincial Grand Lodge commenced in the usual manner . The minutes of the last Lodge having been read and

confirmed , and the muster roll of the Lodges in the Province having been called , the accounts of the Prov . Grand Treasurer ( which were of a satisfactory character ) were received and adopted , and Bro . J . E . S . Hewett was unanimously re-elected Treasurer .

Highly satisfactory reports were received and adopted from both of the local Masonic Charitable Institutions , after which the Provincial Grand Master appointed and invested his Officers for the ensuing year as follow :
