The tenth annual dinner of the Old Masonians will be held on Friday next , Sth inst ., at Anderton ' s Hotel , E . G ., when we hope continued success of this useful Society will be reported . n n n

Brother Captain Schlosshauer , of the ship " Windward , *' delivered a lecture to the members and friends of the Citadel Lodge ,

under the presidency of Brother Fairclough , on Monday last , concerning his experiences in search of the north pole , the address being considerably enhanced by the photographs and

illustrations by limelight provided by Bros . Fred Kebbell and Piatt , the former afterwards showing several of his own photographs taken on cycling tours , and also of several members of the Lodge of Instruction .

While our duty to a Brother in distress cannot be denied , tbe duty of a Brother to himself is one that no Brother has a right to forget in the days of his youth and prosperity . Nearly all Lodges , in Canada especially , have provided in their by-laws for life membership , and the Grand Lodge compounds its dues ,

so that there is hardly a Brother in his younger years but could , with a little self-sacrifice , place his name on the list of life membership , and thus avoid the possibility of his suspension . Such life membership some are opposed to , but if the dues

derived from it are invested in a fund by itself , and the interest only used for the expenses of the Lodge , no Lodge would suffer , and the great army of non-affiliates would be wiped out of existence . — " Canadian Craftsman . "

From the calendar recently published it appears that the Province of Somerset contains 26 Lodges , with a total membership of 1 , 233 . The Taunton Lodge is the strongest with 86 members , the Boyal Sussex ( Bath ) being second with 83 . The Weston-super-Mare Lodge comes third with 73 . The patriarchal

Cumberland numbers the same as its junior Brother , the Albert Edward , viz ., 60 ; the Yeovil , Frome , and Keyasham Lodges exceeding that total . In votes for ihe Charities , which number 4 , 699 , the SunStsx is far and away the first with 1 , 102 , but this

includes Brother Marshall's grand total . The next highest is the Wellington Lodge with 301 , then Wells with 253 , Highbridge with 205 , Taunton with 202 , Bruton 197 , the Cumberland with 169 . The total amount given to the Charities in eighteen years is the highly creditable sum of £ 10 , 711 15 s . — " Chard News . "
