MASONIC SERVICE .

THE Freemasons ' of Southport , together with many visiting brethren , including Bro . J . D . Murray , on the 19 ch ult ., aocompanied the Mayor of Southport ( who wore the mayoral robes presented to him by hia brother Masona in 1884 ) to Holy Trinity Churoh . About 230 brethren assembled in the schools , Paat and Present Provincial Officera of West Lancashire , East Lancashire , and

Cheshire mustering strongly . The banners of the Southport Lodges were carried at the head of the procession , which , headed by the church choir , sang "Brightly gleams our banner . " The prayers were intoned by Bro . the Rev . C . Hesketh Knowlys P . P . G . C . ( rector of North . Meola ) , and Bro . the Rev . J . S . Gardner P . P . G . C . ( curate of

Holy Trinity ) , Bro . the Rev . W . H . Marsden P . P . G . C . ( vicar of St . Luke ' s ) reading the lessons ( St . Paul on Charity ) . Bro . H . Hudson presided at the organ , and tbe anthem was " Remember now th y Creator . " Bro . the Rev . T . Barton Spencer P . G . C . of Eng ., preached from Acts xx . 35 , "Remember the worda of the Lord Jeans , how He said , It is more blessed to give than to receive . "

Having expressed tho interest felt hy all concerned in the prosperity of Southport in the Centenary Celebrations , and glanced at tho progress of Southport and of Masonry daring the last 100 years , the reverend gentleman pleaded for funds to endow a Freemason ' s cot in the New Southport Infirmary , for which bnilding he stated that £ l 3 , 000 had been , raised towards the £ 23 , 000 re-quired . Masonry was founded on the principles of Brotherly Love , Relief , and Truth j it was , ns the Pro Grand Master ( the Earl of Lathom ) said , not a benevolent institution , but a charitable institntion , and Masons

should gladly embrace the opportunity of practising those virtues they professed so ranch to admire . Tho offertory , received by Bro . the Rev . C . M . Clarke ( curate of Christ Chnrch ) , realised £ 78 2 a 8 d . iiro . the Rev . C . S . Hope P . P . G . C . pronounced the Benediction , and O , AVorshi p the King" formed the recessional . At the school liro . Hope thanked the brethren for their hearty response to tho invitation to attend the service , ancl in the name of all the brethren Po thanked Bro .
