THE attendance at the annual meeting of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Durham , held on the 28 th ult ., at the Borough Hall , Stockton , was one of the largest that has ever been seen at these meetings . The Provincial Grand Master Sir Hedworth Williamson , Bart ., presided , and was supported by the Rev . Canon Tristram , D . D ., Deputy Prov . Grand Master , & c .
The report of the Fund Committee was presented by the Deputy Prov . G . M . and recommended that the following sums be voted : —To the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution £ 26 5 s , to the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys
£ 52 10 s , to the Durham Masonic Benevolent Fund £ 105 , and to the Durham Masonic Education Fund £ 84 . The report was adopted , on the motion of Brother R . Luck P . P . S . W ., seconded by Bros . B . S . Beckwith P . G . S . B ., and C . S . Lane P . P . G . S . W .
The roll of Lodges was called , and the Masters of the several Lodges responded . The Prov . Grand Master Sir Hedworth Williamson , Bart ., in addressing the Grand Lodge , made suitable reference to the losses which they had sustained during the past year , viz ., of Colonel Cameron , Thomas Topling , R .
Shadforth , W . H . Turner , and others . The roll of Lodges had been very satisfactory , and it went to show the extraordinary increase which had taken place in Masonry during the past ten years . There were about 2 , 100 members in the Lodges in the Province in 1887 , and there were now a total
of 3 , 000 m the thirty-six Lodges . He thanked the Stockton Brethren for their excellent arrangements , and the Brethren for attending in such large numbers from all parts of the Province . He also thanked the Officers of the past year for visiting the Lodges , and referred to the great pleasure he had in seeing his Deputy present .

On the motion of Bro . T . Coulson P . P . G . S . W . ( South Shields ) , seconded by Bro . C . S . Lane P . P . S . G . W . ( West Hartlepool ) it was unanimously agreed that the fund inaugurated last year be named "The Hudson Benevolent Fund . " Bro . Rev . Canon Tristram , on behalf of the Provincial Grand Master , then presented to Bro . Robert Hudson a substantial sterling silver tea and coffee service and tray .
He said it was a very great privilege to be called upon to perform this ceremony . He referred to the fitness and appropriateness of their special effort in this jubilee year of inaugurating a new Benevolent Fund , and the name of one who had rendered the greatest possible services to Freemasonry in that Province had been by resolution associated with their new fund . He had no doubt many in the future , the widows , and orphans of members of their Craft , would

rise up and bless the name of their esteemed Secretary Bro . Robert Hudson , in recognition of whose great services this fund had been created . As the Provincial Grand Master stated , the fund amounted to over 1 , 000 guineas , and it would form a suitable memorial to one who had been the
mainspring of the work of their Province for the past fifteen years . Bro . Hudson had done what no other man in the Province had ever accomplished . He had great pleasure in asking Bro . Hudson to accept the service of silver that was before him . The silver tray bore the following inscription :

Bro . Hudson , who was cordially received , said the presentation he had just received was one little anticipated by him when he first entered upon Masonic duties many years ago in the Lodge of which their esteemed Provincial Grand Master was first W . M . After seven years he became

M ., but as time rolled on and he became an Officer ofthe Province it never occurred to him that such a testimonial would be handed to him , or that he should be spared to receive such an honour as he had that day received . Since he took the office of Prov . Grand Secretary many great events had occurred , and he had taken part in these events , which
had become historic in the Province . He referred in particular to the visit of H . R . H . the Duke of Albany to Durham shortly before his decease , to the decease of the Marquis of Londonderry the former Prov . G . M ., and other events of interest , and in conclusion he thanked all most heartily for the noble gift of which they had made him the recipient .

r in HE annual meeting of the Provincial Grand Lodge of JL the Eastern Division of South Wales was held on Thursday , 23 rd ult ., at the Masonic Temple , Cardiff , Lord Llangattock Prov . G . Master presiding over a large and representative attendance .
His Lordship , in his opening remarks , spoke of the success of the recent Masonic celebrations of Her Majesty ' s Jubilee in London and Llandaff Cathedral , and heartily welcomed into the Lodge Bro . R . Eve Chairman of the Committee of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , an
Institution which would next year celebrate its Centenary . His Lordship further read a letter from Mr . Montague Guest , son of the late Sir John Guest , who was Provincial Grand Master of the Division in 1852 , offering to present to the Province the Masonic clothing of his deceased father .
Lord Llangattock remarked that the Grand Lodge would only be too pleased to accept such a gift , and expressed the hope that it would form a nucleus of a Masonic Museum for South Wales—a suggestion which was received with much applause .
Letters of regret for absence were read from the Earl of Jersey , the Bishop of Landaff , the Earl of Mount-Edgcumbe , and the Chancellor of the Exchequer . The report of the Provincial Grand Lodge Committee
was presented by the D . P . G . M . Bro . Marmaduke Tennant , and on the motion of Bro . R . S . Fisher was adopted . Thanks were tendered to Bro . Lindley Smith for his services as Treasurer , and Bro . Owen Owen , of Swansea , was selected to succeed him in that Office .
Collection of alms followed , a sum of over £ 6 being realised , and this it was resolved to hand over to the Cardiff Infirmary .
On the motion of Bro . J . R . Lever , seconded by Bro . D . Williams , a sum of £ 100 was voted to the funds ofthe Royal Masonic Institution for Boys , in celebration of the Queen ' s Jubilee .
A pleasing feature of the proceedings was the conferment , in commemoration of the Queen ' s Jubilee and by special dispensation of Grand Lodge , of the rank of Past Prov . Grand Senior Warden upon Bro . George Clarry P . M . 36 ,
and Bro . J . R . Leaver P . M . 1323 . The Prov . Grand Master explained that these were special honours , and Bros . Clarry and Leaver , as they came up to be invested , were cordially applauded .
