PROV . G . LODGE OF OXFORDSHIRE .

ON Wednesday the Annual Provincial Grand Lodge of Oxfordshire was held in tho pretty little town of Heuley-on-Thames , and the proceedings wore marked by an event of special interest , the Earl of Jersey P . G . W .

Provincial Grand Master , having consented to lay tho foundation stone of a Masonic Hall , to be erected by tho brethren of tho Thames Lodge , No 1895 , on a suitable site in the Reading Road , within a short distance of the Groat

Western Railway Station , generously presented by Bro . Mackenzie . The brethren attended in good numbers from different parts of the Province , and for their con venience tho Great Western Railway Company slipped a

carriage from one of their fast up trains , at Tvvyford Junction . Tho Provincial Grand Lodge was opened at two o ' clock , at the Town Hall , by Lord Jersey , assisted by Bro . Reginald Bird , M . A ., Past Grand Deacon

Deputy Provincial Grand Master , Bro . tho Rov . H . Sayers Provincial Grand Chaplain , Bros . Hermon Hodge , M . P ., W . Lewis Morgan Provincial Grand Secretary , and

other-Provincial Grand Officers . The roll of the Lodges having been called , and the minutes of tho last Provincial Grand Lodge confirmed , the brethren formed into procession and

walked through the Market Place and Duke Street to tho site , in the Reading Road , where a large concourse of persons had assembled , the weather being extremely fine . The Worshipful Master of the Thames Lodge , Brother E . Carlisle , presented a silver trowel , suitably inscribed , to

the Provincial Grand Master , who proceeded to lay the stone . At the conclusion of the ceremony , which was carried out with full Masonic rites , the procession re-formed , and the brethren returned to the Town Hall , when the

Provincial Grand Lodge business was at once resumed , and tho Provincial Grand Master appointed and invested his Officers for the ensuing year . The Provincial Grand

Lodgo having been closed in duo form , tlio brethren adjourned to fcho Red Lion Hotel , where a banquet was served , and the usual Masonic toasts wero honoured .

Montague Worlock , aud it is sufficient to add that the siugors of the choruses wore chielly members of the Bristol Orpheus and Bristol Madrigal Societies . Tho composition was very inuuli admired . Parry said thafc every member of tho Lodgo had taken part in tho provision of that present ,

whioh he hoped tbo W . M . would wear in testimony of their appreciation of how much tho successful starting and present prosperity of fche Lodgo wore due to his energy and ability and good work . Bro . Harold Lewis said he bad been requested to support the remarks of the previous speaker , and bore testimony to the minuto attention

which Bro . Harris gavo every detail in connection with tho work of the Lodge . The W . M . suitably acknowledged tho present . Two candidates for initiation and live joining members having been proposed , tho Lodgo was closed , Bro . Farran Lambert ' s now march being played as the brethren loft the Lodge-room . Thoy then

adjourned to tho spacious banqnoting-hall on the ground floor of tho bnilding , where the installation supper wafj partaken of .
