AT the monthly meeting of this ancient Lodge , held at the Falcon Hotel , Gravesend , on Monday , Bro . James Dainpier Palmer , the Borou « h member , was passed to the second degree , nnd Mr . Thomas Holt Sheppard was initiated as a Freemason by the Worshipful Master ( Bro . George Rackstraw ) .

LODGE OF FAITH , No . 581 . THE regular meeting of this Lodge was held at the Gransmoor Hotel , Openshaw , on Wednesday , 15 th November . Bro . G . H . Barnes W . M . presided . There were also present : —Bros . Samuel

The business of the day was very heavy , and the Lodge was accord .

ingly opened at the early hour of 4 p . m . The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed , Mr . William Birohall Gleave , of Clayton , was successfully balloted for nnd afterwards initiated by Bro . Whittnker I . P . M ., ho being assisted by Bro . Harrison J . W ., who explained the working tools . Bros . Wagttiff and Jones having satisfactorily answered tbe usual questions , wero duly passed iuto the

second degree by tbe W . M ., Bro . Brown S . W . explaining tho working tools and Bro . Wbittaker describing the tracing board . The next business was to elect a Worshipful Master for the ensning year , the choice falling npon Bro . H . B . Brown S . W . j Bro . J . 0 . Brown was re-elected Treasnrer of the Lodge funds , while Bro . Wbittaker was relegated to the position of Charity Representative .

At the festive board which followed , the usnal Loyal and Masonio toasts were submitted , these being varied by songs aud recitations , whioh were rendered by Bros . Hewson , Goldman , Roberts and others . In responding to the toast of the Worshipful Masfcer elect , whioh

had been ably proposed by Bro . Barnes W . M ., the former said be acknowledged tha prond and responsible position which he had attained . From the moment of hia udvwnt into Masonry he had contemplated getting to trie top of the ladder , and he had only another rang to climb before bH reached the summit . To the brethren who had to a certain extent b en instrumental in tho success whioh had

attended him , he felt thankful , and promised to do his best to deserve their confidence . Bro . Barnes W . M . proposed the health of tha newly-initiated brother , stating that the attention he had displayed that evening indicated a desire to rise to a good position in the Craft , » nd nothing would afford him great r pleasure than to see him ultimately in the chair which he himself occupied .

In reply Bro . Gleave said that he was deeply sensible of the honour whioh had been conferred upon him , and ha hoped thafc aa time rolled on the brethren would have no cause to regret having made a Mason of him . i

In answer to tbe toasfc of tha nowly-passed brethren , Bro . Wagstaff said that the more he saw of the beauties of Freemasonry tbe more ho liked it , and he hoped be should prove worthy of the honour they had conferred npon him .

Bro . Jones thanked tho W . M . for bis method of introducing the toast to the notice of the brethren , and unhesitatingly offered his assistance at all times towards enhancing the pleasures of the festive board . Other toasts followed .

DERBY LODGE , No . 1055 . THE regular meeting of this Lodge was held at tho Victoria Hotel , Manchester , on Thursday , 9 th of November , Bro . Charles Smith W . M . The principle business of the evening was the reading and confirming of the minutes of the last regular meeting , the confirming of the minutes of the Finance Committee ; the reading of a very important bye-law with reference to the election of Officers ; and

the election of Worshipful Master for the ensuing year , the latter choice falling upon Bro . Joseph Challender S . W . Bro . Nesbitt was elected Treasurer , and Bro . Joseph Snape P . M . tbe Charity Repretentative . A Tyler was also elected . Other important matters were brought forward , after whioh the brethren retired .

CAPPER LODGE , No . 1076 .

T PHE installation meeting took p lace at the Guildhall Tavern , E . G ., -L on the 16 th ult ., under . the presidency of Bro . J . H . White . There was a large attendance of Past Masters , other members and visitors . Mr . T . Wbittaker was initiated , and Bro . John Collins passed . Brother Taplay P . M . acting D . C . presented Bro . F . C . Ward W . M . elect , and that brother was installed , subsequently appointing his Officers . Tho W . M . presented to Bro . White , in the name of the Lodge , a

Past Master s jewel , after which Bro . Crow P . M . said he felt sure he expressed the feeling of the Lodge when he thanked the I . P . M . for the very able way in whioh he had performed the duties of Installing Master , and in accordance witb the nsnal custom of presenting an illuminated address on relium to the ^ W . M . who installed his immediate successor , he proposed

that they should do so on the present occasion . On this being seconded by Bro . Tapley , it was cordially agreed to . The Lodge was olosed , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet . The W . M . proposed tho loyal toasts . The W . M . was proposed by Bro . White , who referred to the geniality of Bro . White , and his anxiety to serve the Lodge in all the

offices he had occupied . The W . M ., in response , returned his deepest thank ? , and expressed his intention to do his duty . The Installing Master , in reply to his toast , said if the brethren were satisfied , that was his reward . As I . P . M ., on retiring from tha chair , ho would express his gratitude to his Officers for their efficient

aid in every ceremony during the pasfc year . He was sure the pre * sent Officers would act in liko manner to the present W . M . For the Past Masters , Bro . Holliday said be now replied for tha nineteenth year to tbat toast . His attachment to the Lodge had grown with his connection with it , and he was resolved to stick fco his old association and friends for another nineteen years if he might

hope for it . Bro . Tapley P . M . also responded . He was pleased to observe the working of the installation ceremony by the I . P . M ., and had never known it tobeperformed witb more dignity and feeling . For himself and bis brother P . Ms , he could say they all had the interest of the Lodge at heart . The initiate , in reply to his toast , spoke of the great power of

symbols . From all he had heard and seen of Freemasonry he had for a long time a desire to join tho Order . Tbe central idea it conveyed to him was that all shonld leare tbe world better than they found it , so far as laid in their power . For the Visitors , Broa . Creswick , Prescotfc , Hammond , and E . ASAPH LODGE , No . 1319 . 11 HE installation meeting of this Lodge , which was established for . the convenience of members of the dramatic and musical professions , was held on the 6 th ult ., at Freemasons' Hall , when nearly two hundred brethren assembled . Bro . W . S . Penley , the Worshipful Master , presided , and installed as his successor Bro . James Edward Harableton . Bro . F . H . Maeklin and Bro . Sam Johnson were appointed

Wardens , Brother Woliard Treasurer , and Br .- . W . A . Finney Seoro . tary . Bro . Penley , to whom a Putt Master's jowel wns presented , was elected Trustee of the Bsuevolsnt Fnnd , in place of tho l » t . > Bro . Frederick Burgess . Bro . Fairchild , the Treasaror of tho Fund , stated that nearly £ 900 was in hand at the present time , after the many liberal grants made in relief of applicants .

ARCHITECT LODGE , No . 1375 . THE lasfc meeting of the above Lodge which was held afc the Masonio Rooms , Chorlton-oum-Hardy , was a particularly brilliant affair , being attended by a large number of Provincial Officers who bad assembled to celebrate tbe granting of Provincial honours to Brother Councillor John Bradshaw P . M . P . G . S . D . Those present comprised Bros . Cyril H . Beever W . M ., W . Dyson Fryer I . P . M .,
