He was proposed and seconded by Bros . Dunlop and Dane respectively . The ballot being favourable to the candidate , his initiation was proceeded
with , and the elocution and fluency displayed by the newly-installed Master in the working of this interesting ceremony gives promise of able and excellent ruling during the year he has just entered upon . The Lodge was subsequently closed , and the brethren repaired to another room , where an excellent banquet awaited thom , presided over
by the Worshipful Master , who in due course proposed the various toasts usual on these occasions . The toast of the Worshipful Master was given in eulogistic terms by the I . P . M ., who spoke of the ability Bro . Bertolle had displayed , not only that evening , but in the various offices he had successively occupied in the Lodge . In reply ,
the Worshipful Master , after thanking the brethren for the reception of the toast , assured them that when he first became connected with Freemasonry , he never entertained the idea that he should attain to that high position ; it was now the proudest moment of his life . With the assistance of his Officers he should endeavour to
fulfil the duties of his position to the very best of his ability , and when his year of office should expire it would be a great consolation to know that he had given satisfaction for the way in which he had fulfilled those duties , and that the brethren of the Lodge shonld never have reason to regret their choice . He had now a very pleasant
duty to perform , that was to present to Bro . Austin , in the name of the brethren of the Southern Star Lodge , the handsome P . M .
