Bro . Shales answered the questions leading to the second degree , was entrusted , and the ceremony of passing was rehearsed , after which the Lodge was called off and on . Bro . Pettit acted as candidate while the ceremony of raising was rehearsed . Both ceremonies were impressively and correctly given , to the great satisfaction of all present . Bro . Dyke was elected a member , and Bro . McVey W . M . for next meeting .

M , Preceptor , Brander P . M . Treas ., Swift Sec , Hall , Feldman , H . Marks W . M , 1563 , Long , Wynman , and several others .

The W . M . rehearsed the ceremony of initiation , Bro . Hall candidate ; the Lodge was called oS and on , and on resuming to labour , Bro . H . Marks W . M . of the Mother Lodge , with tho assistance of the Brethren , worked the first section of the lecture , after which the Preceptor worked the second section . Bros . Hall , Feldman and Watt 3 were unanimously elected members and suitably responded . The S . W . will preside at next meeting as W . M ., and we hope he will have a good attendance .

A vote of thanks was passed to the W . M ., he occupying the chair for the first time .

Z . 2256 1685 presided , and regularly opened the Lodge to the second degree , when Bro . S . Eobson W . M .-elect 1693 was presented and took the obligation of W . M .

The Lodge was opened in the third degree , and the W . M . installed into the chair and saluted according to ancient custom . The Lodge was resumed , and the W . Dimes Sec . Bro . Speller in a very able and perfect manner rehearsed the three addresses .

Bro . A . W . Cooper was elected W . M . for the ensuing week , and a vote of thanks having been accorded to Bro . Speller for his kindness in rehearsing the installation ceremony , the Lodge was closed in due form and adjourned until Friday , 2 nd October , when , after the business of the Lodge , the Committee of the Crusaders Charitable Association will meet , and two ballots will take place .

PERSEVERANCE LODGE , No . 1743 . THE first meeting of this Instruction Lodge for the season was held on Monday , at Eidler ' s Hotel , Holborn , when there was a large attendance . Bro . G . S . Daunton acted as W . M ., with J . Bell S . W ., A . Collins J . W ., C . Spreag S . D ., H . Cullingham J . D ., H . E . Shaw I . G ., E . Poore P . M . Preceptor , E . E . Linfoot I . P . M . 1298 , J . W . Nash , J . Wynman , and several others . The W . M . rehearsed the ceremony of initiation , Bro . Hoare candidate , and then opened the Lodge in the second degree , when Bro . J . W . Nash was entrusted , the ceremony of raising being afterwards rehearsed . The W . M . gave the explanation of the tracing board , and then vacated the chair in favour of Bro . J . Bell , who invested the Officers , Bro . Daunton acting as D . C .

CITADEL LODGE , No . 1897 . ON Friday , 26 th ult ., at the Farleigh Hotel , Amhurst Eoad , Stoke Newington , Bro . Feistel W . M ., Friedlander S . W ., Lamigeon J . W ., Dunstan Preceptor , Bird Treasurer , Willsmer Secretary , Calley S . D ., Hazell J . D ., Lamer I . G-., Witte , Bishop , Jones , Matthews , & c . The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed . Bro . Geo . Clark then took the chair , opened in the second and third degrees , and rehearsed the ceremony

of raising . A meeting of the Masonic Charities Association was then held , Bro . Punstan President in the chair . During the eleven months ending 31 st August , 26 Life Subseriberships have boon obtained in the B . M . B . I . for Aged Freemasons - £ 136 10 0 9 ditto Boys - - - 47 5 0 1 ditto Girls - - . 5 5 0

and three more were balloted for on this evening , making forty-one Life Subseriberships , including two not yet allotted . Bros . Gower , Jarvis and Mantell were the successful members on this occasion .

EGERTON LODGE , No . 1030 . THE regular meeting took place at the George Hotel , Heaton Norris-Stockport , on Monday , 21 st ult ., Bro . Geo . Ben Goodfellow W . M . After the reading and confirmation of minutes , Bro . James Bertram Oldham

was passed to the degree of F . C . by the W . M ., the working tools being presented and explained by Bro . Capt . E . G . Lingard P . M . P . P . G . W . S . W . whilst Bro . Thos . Knott P . M . Sec . rendered the address in the S . E . very effectively . The election of Officers then took place , Bro . James W . Abbott P . M . P . P . G . D . C . D . C . being unanimously chosen to preside over the destinies of the Lodge for the ensuing twelve months , and we are sure that under his able guidance it cannot fail to make important progress .

The business included the election of W . M . for the ensuing year , the choice of the Brethren falling unanimously upon Bro . Grundy S . W ., who through the whole of the offices filled by him has manifested such interest in the ceremonial of the Lodge as to eminently qualify him for the position . Touching allusion was made to the death of a respected townsman , the D . P . G . M . Bro . Mellor , and a letter of condolence and sympathy was direotad to be sent to his widow and family .

LIBERTY OF HAVERING LODGE , No . 1437 . THE annual installation meeting was held at the Golden Lion Hotel , Romford , on Wednesday , 23 rd ult ., when Bro . J . W . Armour , of Brentwood , W . M . performed the ceremony of inducting Bro . J . S . Hammond into the chair . Bro . Child I . P . M . was presented with a handsome testimonial , and Bro . J . W . Armour with a P . M . 's jewel . Music was contributed by several of th » oompany .

BRAMSTON BEACH LODGE , No . 2101 . THE installation meeting took place on Thursday , 24 th ult ., at the Masonic Hall , Godalming , the ceremony being performed by Bro . A . Gibts P . M . The Lodge was honoured by the presence , for the first time since his appointment , of the Grand Master of the Province of Surrey the Earl of Onslow , who was accompanied by Bro . C . T . Tyler Prov . Grand Secretary .

Bro . W . T . Pitchers was installed Worshipful Master and invested the Officers . After the ceremony the Brethren sat down to a sumptuous banquet , provided by Bro . J . J . Taylor P . M . The Worshipful Master presided , supported by the Earl of Onslow and other Visitors , the Brethren also mustering in strong force .

An interesting feature of the evening was a musical programme organised by Bro . Haig-Brown , and among tho Brethren giving their services were Bro . P . V . Sharman and Bro . G . H . Eobinson Organist of the Lodge .
