THE Provincial Grand Master Designate General Davis was present at the installation meeting of the Weyside Lodge , No . 1395 , on the 16 th ult ., and , responding to the toast of his health , assured the company present that his highest
ambition in succeeding to the rule of the Province would be to follow worthily in the footsteps of the noble Brother who was about to retire from the Office of Provincial Grand Master .

RESPONDING at a recent meeting of the Grand Lodge of Scotland a visitor from Bulawayo said his Lodge had for some time been working under great difficulties , but he was happy to say they had been able to surmount them all . Their Lodge took its name from a great fighting man , the late Major Alan Wilson , and might be termed a . fighting
Lodge . The Immediate Past Master was at present Captain of C Troop Southern Rhodesian Volunteers , and was with Colonel Plumer at the relief of Mafeking ; the R . W . M . was for some time a cyclist scout in the same regiment ; the Junior Warden was a Lieutenant of G . troop ; the Senior Deacon he met in Durban about three months before .
recovering from the effects of a mauser bullet wound through both lungs , received at the battle of Spion Kop ; the last news he had of the Inner Guard was that he was engaged at the ? battle of Colenso ; a former Inner Guard was Captain of F Troop Southern Rhodesian Volunteers , and was also , he
believed , present at the relief of Mafeking ; while one of the Stewards was a corporal in the same troop . So much for the Office-bearers . The rank and file had also done their part ,
and were too numerous to mention . Still , with all those absentees they had been able to work the Lodge in a creditable manner , as the remaining Brethren had worked hard to fill the gaps .

The first meeting of the Upton Lodge , No . 1227 , since the installation of Bro . Walter J ames Carroll , is to held on Thursday , 8 th inst , at the Great Eastern Hotel , Liverpool Street , E . G ., and will provide ample occupation for the new
ruler and his Officers , there being no less than four candidates . on the agenda for raising , two for passing , and five for election and initiation . To cope with this amount of work the Lodge is called for half past three o ' clock , dinner being arranged for 7 . 30 p . m .
The annual meeting of the Asaph Lodge will take place on Monday afternoon , at Freemasons' Hall , when Bro . J . W . Mathews is to be installed as W . M . The present Master Bro . C . B . Powell will perform the ceremony .
