SUPREME GRAND CHAPTER .

THE Quarterly Convocation of the Supreme Grand Chapter will be held on Wednesday next , 7 th inst , at Freemasons' Hall , London , at six o ' clock in the evening , punctually . BUSINESS .

The Minutes of the last Quarterly Convocation to be read for confirmation . To read acknowledgment of address from Grand Chapter to H . R . H . the First Grand Principal , on the occasion of the death of H . R . H . the Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha .

THE REPORT OF THE COMMITTEE OF GENERAL PURPOSES .

To the Supreme Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of England . The Committee of General Purposes beg to report that they have examined the Accounts from the 20 th July , to the 18 th October

1 9 , both inclusive , which they find to be as follows : To Balance , Grand Chapter £ 25 6 3 o „ „ Unappropriated Account 35 10 5 Subsequent Receipts 366 4 1 —— £ 657 17 6

By Disbursements during the Quarter ^ 361 o Balance 40 16 6 ,, ' Unappropriated Account 255 4 o : — £ 657 17 6 which Balances are in the Bank of England , Law Courts Branch . The Committee have likewise to report that they have received the following Petitions : —

1 st . From Companions Thomas Atkinson Argles as Z ., Richard John Nelson as H ., Thomas Taylor as J ., and nine others for a Chapter to be attached to the Ambleside Lodge , No . 2745 , to be called the WansfeM Chapter , and to meet at the Queen ' s Hotel , Ambleside , Westmorland .

2 nd . From Companions John Wyatt Court as Z ., Allan Mc Intosh as H ., George Band as J ., and nine others for a Chapter to be attached to the Lord Warden Lodge , No . 1096 , to be called the Granville Chapter , and to meet at the Foresters' Hall , Walmer , Kent .

3 rd . From Companions Felix Sumner Knyvett as Z ., Rev . Oliver C . Cockrem as H ., John Pearce Taylor as J ., and fourteen others for a Chapter to be attached to the Earl of Clarendon Lodge , to be called the Clarendon Chapter , and to meet at the Masonic Hall , Watford , Hertfordshire .

The foregoing Petitions being regular , the Committee recommend that the prayers thereof be respectively granted . The Committee have also received a Memorial with extract of Minutes , for permission to remove the following Chapter : — " The Royal Preston Chapter , " No . 333 , Preston , from the Castle Hotel to the Masonic Rooms , Bull Hotel , Preston . INSTALLATION OF COMP . W . J . BARNES .

AT the annual installation meeting of this Chapter , held last Saturday , at the Roebuck Hotel , Buckhurst Hill , Essex , Comp . W . J . . Barnes was installed iYLE . Z . for the second year of Office . Comps . George E . Gratton and C . Horst were installed as H . and J . respectively . The following Officers were elected and

invested , with the exception of the Scribe N ., who was unable to be present : George T . Jfeall P . Z . P . P . G . R . Scribe E ., E . Jennings S . N ., T . Glasgow P . S ., T . Hinderwell 1 st Asst ., W . G . Shadrake 2 nd Asst ., B . Stewart Treasurer , H . Biadon Steward , and David Legg Janitor .

Bro . James Smith , of the Ixion Lodge , was exalted into the supreme degree by the M . E . Z ., assisted by his Officers . Two other Brethren were proposed for exaltation at the next meeting . Although Comp . Barnes still remains in the First Principals

Chair the members of the Chapter presented him with a very handsome P . Z . ' s jewel , to mark the termination of his first year of Office . The compliment was suitably acknowledged , and there being no further business the Chapter was closed in due form . The Companions afterwards dined together .

* * » Eccentric Chapter , No . 2488 . A CONVOCATION of this Chapter was held at $ 3 Golden Square , W ., on Friday of last week , when Comp . J . R . Cleave M . E . Z . presided , and was supported b y Comps . Lionel W . Harris H ., and Imre Kiralfy acting J . The other Officers present were Comps . W . Singleton Hooper P . Z . Scribe E ., Claude A . Hooper Scribe N ., Waiter Beard Treasurer , J . Wright P . S ., A . J . Thomas D . G . '

Lxion Chapter, No.2501.

The Chapter was formally opened by the Principals , and the Companions were admitted . The minutes of the last convocation were read and confirmed , after which the ballot was taken for Bro . Albert H . Collings P . M . 211 , and a member of the Eccentric and Jubilee Masters Lodges . Needless to say the election was

unanimous ; he was therefore introduced , and was regularly exalted as a member of this supreme degree . The ceremony was very perfectly rendered by Comps . Cleave and Wright , assisted by Comps . Lionel Harris and Imre Kiralfy , who gave the Lectures of their respective chairs .

This being election night the members then proceeded to elect their Principals for the next year , with the result that Comps . Lionel Harris , Walter Clifford and J . A . Harrison were appointed to the Chairs of Z ., H ., and J . The subordinate Officers of the Chapter were also elected , and the installation ceremony was fixed to take place on the 4 th January 1901 .

Upon the closing of the convocation the company adjourned to the Eccentric Club , where they partook of dinner . A delightfully pleasant evening followed , during which the customary compliments were passed amid " a feast of reason and a flow of soul . "

The November number of the " Life Boat , " the Journal of the Royal National Life-Boat Institution , has an illustration of the " City Masonic Club " Life-Boat , which is stationed at Poole , thanks mainly to the exertions of our Bro . J . H .

Whatcoat P . G . D . ; and several other items of interest to those who care to read of the work and humane services of the immense fleet of life saving vessels managed by the Institution .

• • • We recently paid a visit to the Avondale Masonic Hall , Landor Road , Stockwell ( a few minutes walk from the Clapham Road Station of the L . C . and D . Railway ) , and were agreeably surprised to find such excellent accommodation

provided for gatherings of the Craft , and general meetings . The banquet room is capable of seating 500 people , and can be comfortably partitioned off for smaller parties ; while the working and other rooms are all that could be desired . The

M ., will be pleased to hear from Brethren who may wish to change their quarters , or others who may desire accommodation ; and will be happy to give any information as to terms , & c , by addressing him at the Landor Hotel ( adjoining the Avondale Hall ) , Stockwell .
