CHAMPION CONCLAVE , No . 26 . A MEETING was held at the Palatine Hotel , Manchester , on Tuesday , the 17 th ult ., Bro . T . H . Scholfield Supreme Buler Grand Councillor . The minutes having been confirmed , and the general communications read , the election of Officers was proceeded with , the result being that Bro . Buckley Carr Councillor was chosen as S . R . for the ensuing year , Bro . Bagdale P . G . C . was re-elected Treasurer , and Bro . Boyer was appointed Grand Steward .

At the festive board which followed , loyal and other toasts were given and responded to . The S . B . proposed the G . Officers , to which Bro . Plumpton responded , saying that the best of things come by surprise , and he was pleased with the recognition they had given him on his annointment . He snoke of the

consecration , and of Bro . Philbrick ' s connection with it , alluding also to the principles of this degree , declaring that the order of David and Jonathan was supreme in Masonry . In conclusion he said that there waa every element in the Conclave for future success , regarding with pleasure the fact that he was first Grand Steward .

Bro . Carr proposed the health of the S . B ., . to which Bro . Scholfield responded , saying it was a great honour his having become Supreme Ruler of the Conclave . He felt sorry he had not had several years of service , so

as to have enabled him to do the work in a satisfactory manner , but hoped that others who succeeded him would take up and successfully finish what he had been deficient in . With the assistance o £ Bro . Marshall they had steered their craft through troubled waters , and it was now in a satisfactory position . He predicted that this Conclave would become a success ; it was something to say that this was the first in Manchester , and the father of future Conclaves .

Bro . Plumpton , in proposing the health of the Supreme Ruler-elect , extolled his work , Bro . Carr responding . The harmony of the evening was sustained by Bros . Kirkland , Oarr , Marshall , and E . Roberts .

Palace . —Bro . Charles Morton , the ever-courteous and genial manager of this magnificent Theatre , presents his patrons with a splendid holiday programme , which is nightly received with every demonstration of delight by overflowing houses . So successful is the entertainment that morning performances are being given , the next being announced for the 11 th inst .

Covent Garden . —No more appropriate occasion than New Year ' s Day could be found by our worthy Brother Sir Augustus Harris for his third grand Fancy Dress Ball . It is the time for jollity , good humour and holiday Carnival , and the public proved ready enough to profit by the programme provided for them . Never did Covent Garden Theatre look more fit to represent the Temple of the Bevels , " blazing with light and breathing with perfume . " Garlands of flowers draped the fronts of the galleries and set off

the rich gilding of the decorations , while the pretty and kaleidoscopic groupings of the dancers was rendered still more brilliant by the blazing beams of the limelight thrown upon them from above . Dancing commenced soon after eleven o ' clock , to the tuneful strains of Brother J . M . Glover ' s fine orchestra , and was continued almost without intermission until a late hour in the morning .
