We congratulate the Brethren of the Lodge on possessing so excellent a ruler as Bro . Issacs . A grant of five guineas was voted to the list of the W . M ., who will represent the Lodge at the Festival of the E . M . B . I . We wish him every success . The Lodge being regularly formed , the minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed .
Bro . W . Boden was balloted for , and accepted as a Joining Member . Bro . Balph Davis , Moses Davis , and J . T . Brown , who had been initiated at the previous meeting , now came forward as candidates for the second degree . They were examined , and having satisfied the Brethren , they were entrusted . The Lodge was opened in the second degree , and in due course these three Brethren were advanced as Fellow Crafts . The work was very well ¦ performed .
The W . M . resumed the Lodge to the first degree , when several letters were read , among others one from Bro . John Almond S . W ., tendering his resignation of the Lodge , on account of other Masonic duties , which resignation was accepted , with regret . The Lodge was now closed , and the Brethren adjourned to an excellent repast , served under the supervision of the Manager Bro . W . G . Feneley . After the Loyal toasts , that of the Grand Officers was given , coupled with the name of Bro . Walter Martin P . A . G . P .
Bro . Martin was warmly received on rising to respond , and expressed the real pleasure he felt in being called upon to reply to the toast of the Grand Officers , who were for the moment somewhat under a cloud , by reason of the death of the late Pro Grand Master the Earl of Lathom . They had , however , an excellent successor in Earl Amherst , who was also one of the very best sort of Brethren anywhere to be found . Personally he was very pleased to be a Grand Officer .
The I . P . M . proposed the health of bhe Worshipful Master . The little work that had been done in tho Lodge had beeu carried out to perfection , and they could but hope ths W . M . would have many more such opportunities of displaying his capabilities . In reply , the Worshipful Master , who was most cordially received , said he —or indeed any man—must have a heart of stone not to be affected by such kind words as had just been uttered in regard to himself . So long as he
gave the Brethren satisfaction be was happy , but at the same time the labourer was worthy of his wages—not that he asked them for anything for himself , . but he might remind them he had a list as Steward for the Benevolent Institution , which he would be pleased to see well patronised by the Brethren . He hoped to have the pleasure of attending the Festival , and wished to represent the Chough Lodge with a good round amount . If , therefore , the members were really satisfied with his working , he asked them to show it by not forgetting the cause for which he was pleading .
The W . M . now proposed the health of the visitors , regarding it as a most important toast . They had the pleasure of the company of Bro . Burslem I . P . M . of the Pantiles Lodge , Tunbridge Wells , Bro . Corfield P . M . of the same Lodge , Bro . Saunion P . M ., Bro . Powell , and so many others that he could only give them a most hearty general welcome , and express the hope

that they would come again and see further of the work of the Chough Lodge . Bro . Burslem said he and his brother Past Master of the Pantiles Lodge were delighted to be present . They most sincerely thanked Bro . Meyers the acting I . G * . for his kind invitation . The working in the Lodge had indeed been a treat , while the reception at the festive board was everything that could be desired . They wished the W . M . continued prosperity , and continued success for the Chough Lodge .
Bro . Saunion said he had been struck by the excellent way in which the W . M . had performed the ceremony of passing . He was sure the candidates of the evening would take the lessons of the degree to heart , and that the impressive way in which they had been passed as Fellow Crafts would make a lasting impression on their memories . The hospitality of the Lodge was equally as good as the work had been , while the musical arrangements were simply perfection .
Bro . Powell said he was sorry he was not then a member of the Lodge . He was pleased to see its progress , and witness the ceremonies of the Craft so carefully performed . In proposing the toast of the Past Masters the W . M . referred to the fact that there were but four of them present , and one of that number had acted as Senior Warden in the Lodge , which went to prove that the members had only to call on the Past Masters for assistance , and it was at once given .
Bro . W . Marcus , as the senior Past Master present , responded . He felt the Brethren had heard him so often that they could but wish other Past Masters to attend a little more regularly . He was pleased to have seen the working so carefully performed as it had been that night—it certainly reflected credit both on the Master , and the Lodge over which he presided . Bro . Smith also responded , saying how pleased he had been to have been able to render them a little assistance in the work . Whenever his
services were required he would always be pleased to do his best . Bro . Vincent Jull I . P . M . said the other Past Masters had said so much they had heard before that he was pleased to be able to refer to something that had not been already mentioned , and that was that the annual ball would be held on Friday , 3 rd February . He sincerely hoped the Brethren would give this year ' s gathering the same amount of support as they did last year ' s , as the amount realised was devoted to the Charity Association .
In proposing the toast of the Treasurer and Secretary the W . M . referred to the absence of the former , but they knew him as one of the best , and so also was Bro . Dewsnap , their Secretary . It could truly be said of iim that he would do everything in his power for the welfare of the Lodge . Besponding , Bro . Dewsnap said the Treasurer and he were very old friends . He thought the Worshipful Master had said more in his praise
than he deserved . He was exceedingly pleased the Brethren were satisfied . Bro . Edwards had desired him to say how sorry he was to leave early , but important business called him away . In regard to the Charities—as they knew , the W . M . was going up as a Steward , and he hoped the Brethren would come forward and support him most loyally . He was pleased to occupy the position of Secretary in the Lodge , and he hoped to continue in the office for many years to come .
The next toast was that of the Officers , responded to by those Brethren in rotation , and then the Tyler ' s toast brought the proceedings to a conclusion . Bros . Badfqrd , Turnpenny , J . W . Cox and Mullerhausen ( the two latter being members of the Lodge ) greatly added to the enjoyment of the meeting by their vocal efforts , being duly assisted by Bro . Geo . F . Smith Past Grand Organist .
THE members of this Lodge entertained their Lady and Gentlemen friends to a Banquet and Ball on Wednesday , 25 th ult . It is almost needless to say the function was a great success , as with Bro . John Almond W . M . in the chair a very pleasant and enjoyable evening was a foregone conclusion . The guests were welcomed by Bro . and Mrs . Almond , and after formal introduction and a pleasant chat adjourned to the banqueting room , where an excellent repast was provided .
o o o LADIES BANQ . UEt AND BALL OF THE OLD BOYS LODGE No . 2500 .
The W . M . gave the usual Loyal toast , which was most heartily received . Bro . W . G . Edwards P . M ., in a very humorous manner , gave the toast of the Ladies , and called upon Brother Past Master Saunion to reply , which he did in a most gallant , eloquent , but somewhat bashful manner . Tho company afterwards proceeded to the' Ball room , where an excellent programme of dances was carried through . The company repaired to their homes at an early hour in the morning , after having spent a most enjoyable time with the " Old Boys . "
