from the brethren , and he now proseuted it to Brother Wood as a means of evincing the very high esteem in which he was held amongst them . He hoped that he would live long to wear it , and that it would remind him of the great interest whioh the brethren had manifested in his welfare , at a time when he was beyond the influence of their individual aid . Brothor Wood responded at some

length , and alluded to the old associations whioh ho had formed in connection with the Victoria Lodge , many sincero friends of his having passed away . There was always a difficulty in following iu the footsteps of excellent men , as work sometimes suffered by comparison , but those who were left , and into whose hands the good government of the Lodge had fallen , were brethren quite capable of

appreciating the trust reposed iu them , and of maintaining its best traditions . It was announced during the evening that Bro . Chadwick Mather , the oldest Past Master of the Lodge , a County Counsellor , who had recently been appointed the first Mayor of Eccles , had intimated that it was bis iutention to be present with them that evening , but he was unfortunately prevented by a very lengthy and important debate which was taking place at the Town Hall . There

Henry Barnard Fawssett was balloted for . This proved to be in his favour , and he was afterwards prepared by Bro . Walkden P . M ., and duly initiated by Bro . Tysoe P . M ., assisted by Bros . W . H . Norton S . W ., who rendered the ancient charge , and W . B . Midgloy J . W ., who explained tho working tools .

Bro . Thos . Henry Summersgill having expressed a desire to become a Fellow Craft , was , after proviug his proficiency as an E . A ., passed into the second degree by Bro . Briggs W . M ., who was assisted by Bro . Midgley J . W ., the latter brother undertaking the duty of presenting the working tools . The ceremonies were most efficiently performed , and at the festive board whioh followed gained many commendations from the brethren assembled . It fell to the lot of Bro .

Walkden P . M . to propose tho health of the newly-initiated brother , and in doing BO he strongly deprecated the introduction into Freemasonry of any bnt fit and proper men , to tho utter exclusion of those whom he termed tbe Dick , Tom , and Harry element . Brother Walkdeu intimated that the brother of tbe initiate was a member of the Fraternity , and it was owing to a very high opinion which he had

formed with regard to it , that they had their new member amongst them that evening . He therefore , with the greatest possible pleasure , proposed his health , assuring him that the more ho saw of Freemasonry the more ho would like it . Bro . Fawselt , in response , said that he fully appreciated the honour whioh had been conferred upon him , promising at tho same time to do his best lo justify the

remarks of Bro . Walkden , and becomo a respectable member of the Order . Bro . Norton S . W . proposed the health of tho newly-passed brother , and in his customary well . chosen , epigrammatic sentences , reverted to the satisfactory way in which Bro . Summersgill had comported himself during his progress through the ceremonies , to which toast Bro . Summersgill afterwards briefly responded . The

W . M . proposed the toast of the visiting brethren , and assured them of a very cordial welcome if they should be desirous of repeating their visit to the Lodge of Concord . The proceedings were varied by songs , and sketches from Bros . Bennett , Albert Summersgill , Eoberts , Beever , and others . Bro : Beever deserves to be especially mentioned as having given a highly diverting and puzzling description of two rival shoeblacks .

ALBERT VICTOR LODGE , No . 1773 . THE regular meeting of this Lodge was held at the Town Hall , Pendleton , on the 17 th ult ., Brother Thomas Threlfall Worshipful Master . Townson took the opportunity of delivering a lecture on tho second tracing board , which was most favourably received , being listened to with the greatest attention , and afterwards receiving suitable and well-deserved acknowledgment . It was reported tbat the annual social gathering held in the largo room of the hall a week previously had been a very great success , being attended by members , relatives , and friends to the number of 156 .

After payment of expenses there was left as balance in favour of the Lodge a sum of £ 6 15 s 6 d . Brother Winstanley Pa 3 t Master proposed for initiation Mr . John Horwood , the accomplished Lancashire reciter , whose name will accordingly be submitted to the ballot on the next meeting of the Lodge . The nsual festive board followed , and Loyal and Masonic toaats were duly honoured .

ST . KEYNA LODGE , No . 1833 . fpHE installation meeting of this Lodge was held at the Lamb and -1- Lark , Keynsham , on Monday , the 20 th ult . The occasion was one of special interest , as it was also the opening of the handsome and commodious new Lodge room , which has beeu built exclusively for Masonic purposes by Mr . E . W . Clnne , under the supervision of Bro . A . Barratt W . M . 326 . Brother 0 . Pfeiffer W . M . oresided , and was

supported by the Provincial Grand Maxtor Lird Diingnrvan , the Deputy Provincial Grand Master Bro . R . C . Elso P . G . D . England , and a very largo number of members of tho Lodge and brethrou from Somerset and Bristol . After various complimentary speeohes with regard to tho new room , the presence of the Provincial Grund Master ,

and the recovery of Brothor Pfeiffer from tho effects of a railway accident in May last , the W . M . elect , Brother Benjamin Head , was installed by the Deputy Provincial Grand Master , with his accustomed efficiency . Brother C . Pfeiffer was invested as Immediate Past Master , and the Worshipful Master subsequently appointed and

ARDWICK LODGE , No . 2185 . A BALL in aid of tho Masonic Charities , and promoted by the Officers and Members of the above Lodge , was held at the Pnblio Hall , Ardwick , on Friday , 17 th nit . A very powerful band had been engaged , and nearly eighty persons attended , some of tho most distinguished being Bros . Councillor W . Fitzgerald Past Master , Councillor Edward Tatton Past Master , G . Edward Wand Past Master ,

W . Eostron Treasurer , W . J . Melliug Past Master Seoretary , J . Hayes Junior Warden , W . Goodman Inner Guard , C . Paine , C . Farrer , and W . Hyde . A dispensation had been granted , and the brethren who availed themselves of the privilege made a very fine show in Craft and Boyal Arch clothing . Brother F . B . Dodd Past

Master acted as Master of Ceremonies , and a very enjoyable evening was spent , the dances beiug prolonged into the matin . Brother George Fox , of the Midland Hotel , provided a most sumptuous ban . quet , aud the mnnner in which it was served elicited universal praise from those who partook of it . It is expected that n very substantial balance will be handed over to the Officers of tho Mas ' ouio Institutions .
