A large number of brethren attended from the various Lodges of the Province and tho adjoining Province of Monmouth .

The Lodge enjoys an unusual degree of prosperity , having a roll of membership numbering 200 brethren , and is the largest and most inllaential Mark Lodge in the Province . Bro . C . F . Matier , in reply to a vote of thanks recorded by the brethren for the honour conferred on local Mark Masonry by his presence on that occasion , expressed his pleasure at being enabled to pay a visit to tho flourishing port of

Cardiff , whose Masonic progress , especially in the Mark degree , he had watched with interest for a number of years . A notable inoident iu the proceedings was the presentation by the W . M ., Brother J . H . Taylor , of a handsome Past Master ' s jewel to the retiring Master , Bro . Henry Frazer jun ., in recognition of the valuable services he had rendered the Lodge during his year of office . A banquet was subsequently held at the Royal Hotel , Bro . Taylor presiding , the

oatering of Brothor Harman being in hia usual first-class style . The usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured , songs and recitations by Bros . S . G . Homfray , T . P . Kerman , J . M . Gerhold , B . D . Jenkins , T . H . Watts , J . W . Jones , and John Sheridan enlivening the remainder of the evening . Altogether a most enjoyable entertainment was provided , and tho installation was undoubtedly one of the most successful held iu the history of the Lodge .

Mason . Then followed the installation of Brother Geo . Smith Sonior Warden , which ceremony was performed by Brother Richardson in his usual finished and effective manner . A very excellent banquet succeeded Lodge business , tho same being provided by Brother Phillips , of tho hall . At

the feativo board the nsnal Loyal and Masonic toasts were honoured . Brother Smith Worshipfnl Master , in proposing that of the newlyadvanced brother , said that it afforded him very great pleasure to welcome Brother Green amongst them . He recolleoted him as a worthy member of hia own Lodge ( Newall 1134 ) and , judging from what he had seen there , he was convinced that they had gained

a member who would undoubtedly make a good Mark Mason . Brother Green afterwards responded , and promised that he would do his best to make himself efficient in the new degree into which ho had just been advanced . In proposing tho toast of the Worshipful Master , Brother Richardson said that he could not speak of him in sufficientl y eulogistic terms . He had indeed given such universal satisfaction

iu tho past that psrhap 3 more might be expected from him in the future than was reasonably warrantable . No one around that festive board had been more enthusiastic in the discharge of duties which had fallen to his share , and they who knew his intrinsic value could appreciate him as the right man in tho right place . Brother Smith , in response , said that he had much pleasure in accepting their very hearty greeting upon his elevation , although he waa not aware that

ho possessed such great ability as had been attributed to him by Brother Richardson . He adverted in high terms to the manner in which the ceremony of installation had been performed , and said that with the assistance of tho latter brother he would endeavour to maintain the dignity of tho St . Andrew ' s Lodge of Mark Masons . The harmony was contributed by Bros . Smith , Marsh , Sbaw , and Roberts , a pleasant evening being passed .

SARNIAN LODGE , No . 425 . rpHE regular insetm ? of this Lodge was held on Monday , tho 13 th JL nit ., at Guernsey , when the W . M . elect , Brother Biclmrd was installed by the outgoing Master , Brother Balfour Cockburu P . G . D ., and Bros . Level I and Le Page were appointed aud invested respectively as Senior aud Junior Warden . This Lodge has now been in existence two year ? , and is handed over to ita new Master in

perfect order and free from all encumbrances . A large meed of praise must be awarded to the excellent Secretary , Bro . A . C . Quick , for the great care and zaalous interest he has taken in the promotion of the welfare of the Lodgo and the hearty manner in which he has co-operated with the worthy founder and Worshipfal Master of the Lodge for the last two years—Brother Balfour Cookburn . It is with

feelings of great satisfaction that we notice the truly Masonio feeling existing between this Lodge and its sister Lodge in Jersey . Thia spirit augurs well for the progress of this degree in these beautiful islands , and wo are pleased to think that the visit of tho Grand Mark Secretary and several Officer ! of Grand Mark Lodge to both Jersey and Guernsey last year was not without ita beneficial and valuable effect .

Laying The Memorial Stone Of The New Masonic Hall For Hawich.

LAYING THE MEMORIAL STONE OF THE NEW MASONIC HALL FOR HAWICH .

A NEW hall is about to be erected in Union Street , Hawiob , for the St . James ' s Lodge . It is expeoted to cost over £ 800 , exclu . sive of furnishing , and of this amount £ 750 has been already raised by the brethren . There are several rooms , the largest being capable of accommodating 400 people . Each side of the doorway will bo embellished with a Corinthian column , ornamented with Masonio

designs aud the inscription , "Lodge St . James , B . U . R . A ., 424 . The memorial stone of tho now hall was laid on Saturday afternoon , the 28 th ult ., and was regarded as an important Masonio function . The brethren met in the Municipal Buildings , and walked in procession to the new hall . There was a large muster , including

Office Bearers of the Provinoial Grand Lodge of Roxburgh , Peebles , and Selkirk-shires , attired in full Masonio costume , and with the emblems , jewels , & o . On reaching the hall , the Hawick Saxhorn band played God save the Queen , after whioh Brother Sanderson , Stow , Provincial Grand Seoretary deposited a

bottle containing coma of the realm , the records of the Lodge , local and other newspapers , & c , in the cavity of the stone . Prayer having been offered up by the Chaplain of the Lodge , the Rev . A . M . Thomson , M . A ., Brother Dr . Middleton Provinoial Grand Master , proceeded to perform the ceremony . Having satisfied himself that the stone was in proper position , the Provincial Grand Master tapped

it with a silver trowel presented to him in honour of the occasion by Brother Caldwell R . W . M . St James Lodge . Dr . Middleton now deolared tho stono well and duly laid , pouring corn , wine , and oil over it . Tho R 9 V . Bro . Thomson again engaged in prayer , after whioh the procession was reformed and returned to the Municipal Buildings . The brethren afterwards , under tbe presidency of Dr . Middleton , dined together iu the Buccleuch Hotel .
