THE meeting of tho above Lodge , whioh wai held at the Freemaaous' Hall , Manchester , ou 23 rd nit ., was tho first under tho Mastership of Brother Thomas Henry Soholfield , and was marked by the fact that tho initiations to be performed were of a triple character , the names of the candidates being Messrs . Arthur Beaumont Soholheld , Charles lliley , and William Morton . Brothor Ernest

Bnrkhardt , of tho Tenuant Lodge , No . 1992 , Cardiff , was eucoosiifully balloted for as a joiniug member . The initiations were performed respectively by Brothers T . 11 . Soholfield Worshipful Master , Joseph Wildgooso Past Master P . P . G . D ., and John Studd Past Master P . P . G . Director of Ceremonies , the working tools being presented by the Worshipful Mastor , and the ancient charge rendered by Brother E .

Alfred Hepworth Junior Warden , tho whole of the duties being performed in a highly satisfactory manner . Snob veterans in Masonio work as Brothers Wildgoose and Studd need very little mention , their names being synonomons with careful and efficient rendition , and of the Worshipful Master it is snffioieut say tbat he was painstaking and correct , while Brother Hepworth showed tbat he was no

tyro , and gave promise of a successful future whioh we shall anxiously watch . At the festive board whioh followed , the usual Loyal and Masonio toasts were honoured , various songs and sketohes were contributed , and a very pleasant evening was passed . instal-- * - lation of Worshipful MaBter and the investment of Officers , took place at the Masonic H ; iU , Shcpton Mallet , on the 15 th ult ., when there was a largo gathering of tho Lodge and visiting brethren , including a number of Provincial Grand Officers , when Bro . Styles was installed ns Worshipful Master , the ceremony being performed

by the Deputy Provincial Grand Master Brother Else P . G . D . England . The Worshipful Master afterwards appointed and invested the Officers for the year , as follow : —Bros . York I . P . Hills usual high-class style , at the Georgo Hotel . The usnal toast list was gone through , and during the evening vocal and instrumental music contributed to the pleasure of the company .

Foster aa a candidate for initiation aud proved in his favour , as did the ballot for Brother Uobson 448 as a joining member . Mr . Foster was after , wards admitted aud regularly iuitiated by Bro thee Tliorpe Irama

diate Past Master , assisted by the Worshipful Master , the working tools being given by Brother Banks Jnnior Wardon , and the oharge delivered by Brother Smith Secretary . Brother Cowbrough Past Master then submitted tbo motion of which he had previously given notice , viz ., that the sum of 20 guineas be given from the Lodge funds to the Eoval Masonio Institution for Girls , and spoke in very

appresiativo terms of the able and economical management of the School , and the excellent training given to the girls therein . Brother Thorpe Immediate Paat Master cordially supported tho motioa , whioh wui unanimously carried . It was also decided to extend the patronage of the Lodge to the Leeds Operatic and Dramatio Society , on tho occasion of their series of performances of " La Fills de Madame Angot , " at the Grand Theatre , iu April next , in aid of the City

Charities . Brothers Dobson , Milne , and Foster having proposed to take further degrees , indneoonrse the Lodgo was closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet hall whore supper was served , and the usual Loyal and Masonio toasts proposed , duly honoured , aud responded to . Brothers Smith , Cookerlyno , Whitfield , Bagshaw , Tyers , Smith , aud others , added considerably to the enjoyment of the evening by their vooal and instrumental contributions .

VICTORIA LODGE , No . 1345 . THE installation and Festival of St . Johu , in connection with the above Lodge , wero held at the Cross Koys Hotel , Eooles , on Thursday , the 16 th ult ., Bro . Tom Wood W . M . In view of the amount of work whioh the circular indicated , the Lodge was opened at the early hour of 3 p . m . The minutes of the preceding meeting having beeu submitted for confirmation , the name of Mr . John Corner was put to the ballot and proved successful ; the Treasurer's accounts

were accopted ; and the following notice of motion , made by Brother Tom Wood W . M . and seconded by Brother William Corner P . M . P . P . G . D . C , received an unanimous assent , viz .: — " That tho sum of twenty guineas be paid from the Charity Fund to the Eoyal Masonio Institution for Girls . " Theso preliminaries over , a Board of Installed Masters wu , 3 formed , Brothor Torn Wood the Worshipful Installing

Master being supported by Bros . E . O . Stuart P . M . as S . W ., Hugh Rowlands P . M . as J . W ., and J . Loos P . M . aa I . G . Tho W . M . elect ( Bro . William Bronghton S . W . ) having been presented in proper form to the Worshipfnl Installing Master , he was afterwards duly obligated and installed into the chair of K . S . It was no secret that Bro . Tom Wood had been prostratod for mauy months with a terrible illness

and on that day the faces of the auditors wore very anxious looks , their feelings alternating between hope aud fear aa to the result , to him , of this severe mental strain , whioh the call to duty involved . Most happily , however , he passed through tho ordeal iu a manner which relieved the anxieties of the brethren , and added an additional lustre to his already assured reputation for careful and proficient

working . Tho working tools were presented and explainod by Bro . Stuart ; the address to the Worshipfnl Master was rendered by Brother Hugh Eowlands ; that to tho WardenB by Bro . Joseph Lees j the usual exhortation to the brethren generally being giveu by Bro . Wood Worshipful Installing Master . Bro . Bronghton W . M ., assisted by Brother William Corner , then invested the Officers , as follow : —•

Loyal and Masonic toasts were honoured , the same being pleasantly relieved by an appropriate selection of songs , & c . We Bhould like to make especial mention of Bro . Fred Hilton I . P . M . Truth Lodge , No . 145 S , who , at the request of the Installing Master , saug " Here ' s to his health ! " with a mixture of pathos and verve which has seldom been surpassed . Bro . Tom Wood I . P . M . in proposing the health of

Brother William Broughton W . M ., alluded to the admirable qualities which tho latter had displayed as an Officer of tho Lodge , and contended that such a satisfactory record as ho could claim warrantod him ( Brother Wood ) in being confident when he made the assurance that the duties of the high office to which ho aspired , would bo as ably performed as they had been by any of his predecessors ,

and under his guidance the good ship Victoria wonld sail prosperously along . Bro . Broughton responded , saying fcbat it had been a pleasure for him to serve under such an admirable Master as the I . P . M ., and ho promised to do his best to emulate his working , foaling euro tbat what ho himself lacked , would bo counterbalanced by the generous assistance of Brother Wood . The Worshipful Master then proposed

the health of Brother Tom Wood I . P . M . Worshipful Installing Master , alluding in very feeling terms to his recent illness . He said that the brethren had felt very deep concern upon hearing tho news of his severe affliction , and it was with unqualified pleasure that thoy welcomed him back to convalescence . The Worshipful Mastor

expatiated , upon his numerous good qualities , thanked him very sincerely for tho admirable manner iu which he had inducted him ( Bro . and under his guidance the good ship Victoria wonld sail prosperously along . Bro . Broughton responded , saying fcbat it had been a pleasure for him to serve under such an admirable Master as the I . P . M ., and ho promised to do his best to emulate his working , foaling euro tbat what ho himself lacked , would bo counterbalanced by the generous assistance of Brother Wood .
