On the proposal of tho Prov . Grand H ., Bye-Law IV . of the Regulations of this Provincial Grand Chapter was altered , as follows : — " The members of the Provincial Graud Chapter aro tho present and past Officers thereof , and the Principals and Past First Principals of every

Chapter within the Province , and Past Firsfc Principals of any Chapter nnder tho English Constitution , if a member of Grand Chapter ; but no Companion can be a member of the Provincial Grand Chapter unless he is a subscribing member of a Chapter within the Province . " It was

explained that the foregoing alteration was necessary to bring the Provincial Bye-Laws into harmony with the new Book of Constitutions . Prior to the close of the Provincial

Grand Chapter , alms amounting to £ 2 2 s were taken and voted to the Weston-super-Mare Hospital . Subsequently upwards of fifty Companions sat down to a first-class banquet .

The Centenary Festival of the Worcester Lodge , No . 260 , will be celebrated next week . A Conversazione will take place at the Worcester Guildhall on Tuesday .

The Metropolitan Chapter of Improvement will commence tho session on Tuesday , the 7 th October , at half past 6 o ' clock , at the " White Hart , " corner of Abchurch Lane and Cannon Street , and will continue to meet every Tuesday until the end of May . Members are invited to make this known among their friends .

Grand Master Sir Pryse Pryse , Bart ., assisted by the Deputy Provincial Grand Master the Rev . Jonathan Marsden , the Officers of the Provincial Grand Mark Lodge ,

accompanied by the Right Worshipful the Provincial Grand Mark Master of Monmouth , Capt . Saml . Homfray , and the Deputy Provincial Grand Master of Monmouth , Colonel Perkins , were received by the Worshipful Master of the Langley Lodge , Bro . John Sheridan and his Officers .

Gerhold , of a handsome Grand Organist ' s jewel , in recognition of the very valuable services rendered by him to the Langley Lodge . The annual banquet was held at the Angel Hotel , under the presidency of Bro . Sir Pryse Pryse , Bart ., the catering of Bro . J . G . Bland being everything to

be desired . The usual Loyal and Masonic toasts having been responded to , a very enjoyable evening waa spent , and enlivened by songs from Bros . Homfray , Anstice , and F . H . Simpson , and recitations from Bros . Sheridan , Gerhold , and Ingram .

The annual meeting of theProvincial Grand Mark Lodge of Sussex will be held at the Masonic Hall , Lewes , on Tuesday , 14 th October , and in the absence of tho

Provincial Grand Mark Master , H . R . H . the Dnke of Connaught , K . G . ( who has not yet been installed in office ) it will be presided over by the Deputy Prov . Grand Master , the Very Rev . E . R . Carrie , D . D ., Dean of Battle , P . Grand Chaplain .

The Prov . G . Chapter of Leicestershire and Rutland will be held at tho Freemasons' Hall , Leicester , on Tuesday , next , the 7 th insL Prov . G . Chapter will be opened at 4-30 .

The Deputy Provincial Grand Master in charge of Berkshire , Bro . the Rev . J . Studholme Brownrigg , has appointed Bro . John W . Martin P . M . of tho Lodge of Union , No . 414 , P . P . G . Reg ., of Reading , to act as Prov . Grand Secretary , in the place of the late Bro . Robert Bradley P . G . S . B .

PRESENTATION TO BRO . AUGUSTUS HARRIS .

BRO . AUGUSTUS HARRIS , one of fche Sberiffs-eleot of the City of London , was , on the 26 th ult ., presented by his Masonic , Dramatic , and other friends with a chain and badge of office , in the Saloon of the Mansion House . Tbe Lord Mayor , who presided , said fche idea of the presentation had originated in the Drury Lane Lodge . The presentation consisted of a solid gold chain . The centre link

bore the monogram of the recipient in coloured enamel . From thia link were suspended the badge , consisting of fche City arms and the arms , crest , and motto of Bro . Augustus Harris , surrounded by the arms of five of the City Companies . The whole of these were enamelled in proper colours , and surrounded by a wreath of laurel

leaves beautifully chased in relief ; and on the reverse was the following : — "Presented to Augustus Henry Glossop Harris , on his election to the office of Sheriff of the City of London , by his Masonio , Dramatic , and other friends , A . D . 1890 . " Bro . Harris , in aoknowledg .

mg the presentation , said it was most gratifying that during the few short years he had been before the publio he had succeeded in making such a host of friends . On the motion of Major Probyn , a vote of thanks was tendered to the Lord Mayor for presiding .

On Friday , the 26 th ult , Bro . B . Bamato , of fche Joppa Lodge , No . 188 , and Barnato Lodge , No . 2265 , and Bro . Woolf Joel of tho Barnato Lodgo , No . 2265 , and the Peace and Harmony Lodge , Dutoitspan , the former of whom has the distinction of being senior member of the Cape Legislature , were surrounded ab Paddington by a numerous galaxy of brethren and friends , who had assembled to wish tho travellers bon voyage . A saloon carriage was placed by the Great ;

Western Railway Company at the disposal of fche party , who left Dartmouth some hours later for the Cape on the good ship Roslin Castle . On tho previous evening , Bro . and Mrs . Joel Joel entertained a large circle of friends , at 20 Devonshire-terrace , to celebrate tho departure of tho travellers . The friends of Bro . Barnato and Joel will be glad to learn that both these brethren intend to return to England after making a short stay afc the Cape .
