THE annual mooting of the Aberdeenshire East Province was held at Strichon , on Wednesday , tho 2 tth ult ., tho R . W . tho Provincial Grand Master Brother Boyd presiding . Bros . Colonel Skene of Lethenty Depute P . G . M ., aud C . J . Gordon of Cairness

Substitute P . G . M ., were also present , aa were Bros . Lord Saltoun P . G . Master Aberdeen City Province and P . M . of Solomon Lodge , Crombie Depute P . G . M . Aberdeen Province , Byres Bazaar Secretary , and Palmer St . Machar . There woro over 70 brethren from tho

various Lodges in the Province present . The R . W . Provincial Master , in the course of his opening remarks , congratulated the Frazor Lodgo on the acquisition of such a spacious hall on so favourable terms , thanks to the generosity of the Secretary of the Lodge ,

nrother G . M . Chalmers . lie referred in feeling terms to the lamented death of one of the Chaplains—Rev . Thomas Rogers , Fraserburgh , and intimated that he had issued a commission in favour of Brother the Rev . R . Goodwille . He also issned

commissions in favour of Brother Davidson R . W . M . St . Andrew ' s Lodge , New Pitsligo , as S . W ., and John Stewart R . W . M . Fraser Lodge , Strichen , as J . W . The meeting was addressed by Bro . Lord Saltoun and Bros . Crombie and Byres , Aberdeen , on behalf of the forth , coming bazaar to be held in Aberdeen , and reports were given in as to the progress of the work within the Province . By the vote of

anout three-fourths of the meeting ifc waa agreed to accept the offer ° f the Aberdeen committee to assign a stall for Aberdeenshire East , ¦ tod it was left with each Lodge to nominate one lady and assistants to take charge of the stall . A petition was read from the Officebearers of Fraser Lodge , to havo their new Lodge-Room consecrated .

may apply for admission as members of it , and if so , on what term . u , with power to enter into communuwition with the members or Office-Bearers of the Society on the snbject , and with all other necessary power ? . " He stated thafc he , us ono of the three remaining trustees of tho fund , was perfectly willing that the charter and the whole of ol \ e documents connected with the constitution of the Society shonld he examined with a view to seeini ? whether the benefits inherent in

tho membership of the Society conld not be extended to all Freemasons in Aberdeenshire East . After considerable discussion , tho Worshipfnl Substitute Master undertook tho office , suggesting , however , that in an intricate question , such as the charter of the Society

apparently was , it would bo advisable to havo the best legal advice before nny definite stop was taken in tho direction of altering the destiny of the funds . Tho Lodge was then closed , and the brethren partook of refreshments in the Town-Hall , which wore purveyed by Brother Morrico , of the Freemasons' Inn .

GRAND ENCAMPMENT OF THE TEMPLE , IN SCOTLAND .

rPHE annual meeting of tho Grand Encampment of the Temple in - *¦ Scotland , to celebrate the festival of the Holy Cross , and elect Officers for the ensuing year , was held iu tho Star Mason Hall , 12 Trongate , Glasgow , on Saturday , the 20 th ult ., attended by a full representation of the subordinate Encampments . The Grand Encampment was opened in ample form by Major John Crombie

M . E . G . M . The minutes of last Grand Encampment having been read and approved , the M . E . G . M . delivered his annual address , which was received with hearty approbation , and ordered to be printed and distributed in tho subordinate Encampments . The reports of tho various Grand Committees wero received and accepted , and a

Subcommittee , consisting of Fraters M . M'B . Thomson , of Ayr ; Samuel Ross , Newmilns ; John R . Jarvio , Cambuslang ; and John Liddell , Glasgow , wan appointed to meet aud confer with the committee appointed by the Supreme Grand Royal Aroh Chapter as to the union of * the two bodies upon tho Royal Arch degrees , and report at next

Grand Encampment . Fraters Major Peter Spence , Adam Nish , James Douglas , and John Gibson , of Airdrie Encampment , were elected Knights Grand Cross . Tho Grand Encampment expressed their sorrow and regrot for the death of Frater David Kay , of the Ayr Encampment , und ordered that au extract of tho minute be sent by

the Grand Recorder to the family of the deceased Frater . Overtures have boon mado by a body styling itself the Early Grand Chapter of Scotland , proposing a basis of union between that body and the Supreme Grand Chapter . A committee having been appointed to confer , there may thereafter be some report on tho subject . St . John ( 3 bis ) was tho first Lodge which wrought the Mark degree as a part of St . John ' s Masonry . They were

interdicted by tho P . G . L ., and an appeal having been made to tho Grand Lodge , St . John ( 3 bis ) proved that the Mark was the completing part of the second degree . Tho Mark thus came to be wrought in Lodge as well as Chapter , and an agreement was made between the Grand Lodge and Grand Chapter of Scotland that these Grand bodies " shall adopt the same ritual in conferring the degree . "

Is then , tho motion to be brought up at the meeting of Supreme Grand Chapter competent without the Grand Lodge being first consulted?— "That certain words be deleted from Mark instructions . " The Mark degree was introduced into England with a charter granted by a subordinate Chapter meeting in Aberdeen , named Bon Accord , and from that small beginning has developed the

present Grand Mark Lodge of England . The following communication , dated 1877 , and emanating from the office of the Grand Lodge of Mark Masters , London , may bo of interest . The letter is addressed to Bro . Thomas M . Campbell P . M . 408 ( his son is tho present R . W . M . of 408 ) , and signed by Bro . Frederick Binckes , the then Grand Secretary : — " Oar Lodges receive as visitors all brethren duly advanced as Mark Master Masons under any legal and recognised

jurisdiction holding rule over tho Mark degree . The Grand Lodge of Scotland is a body which recognises the Mark degree as a portion of ancient and universal Masonry . The Supreme Grand Chapter of Scotland does the same . Therefore , in our Lodges , brethren or companions hailing from either , and producing the regular diploma , and proving themselves to be Mark Master Masons , are , as a matter of courtesy , received as visitors under our jurisdiction . jurisdiction holding rule over tho Mark degree . The Grand Lodge of Scotland is a body which recognises the Mark degree as a portion of ancient and universal Masonry . The Supreme Grand Chapter of Scotland does the same . Therefore , in our Lodges , brethren or companions hailing from either , and producing the regular diploma , and proving themselves to be Mark Master Masons , are , as a matter of courtesy , received as visitors under our jurisdiction .
