REPORTS OF MEETINGS .

We shall be pleased to receive particulars of Masonic meetings for insertion in our columns , and where desired will endeavour to send a representative , to report Lodge or other proceedings .

CRAFT : METROPOLITAN . STANHOPE LODGE , No . 1269 . rpiHE installation meeting was the occasion of a large gathering of members JL and visitors at tho Surrey Masonic Hall , on Tuesday , 10 th ult ., when Bro . H . Broughton was placed in the chair for the ensuing year . The ceremony was undertaken by Bro . G . W . Smith W . M , who was assisted by Bro . W . C . Canton P . M . as D . C .

One initiate was introduced during the evening , and Bros . B . R . Goodson , John King , F . W . Budd-Budd , and Edinborough were passed . Tho banquet subsequonly held was honoured with the presence of two Grand Officers , Archdeacon Sinclair P . G . Chap , of England and Bro . Walter Martin Grand Pursuivant .

The W . M . was congratulated on the happy auspices under which he entered his term in tbe chair . Bro . Archdeacon Sinclair and Bro . Martin replied in felicitous terms for the Grand Officers .- The musical arrangements wore under the direction of Bro . Blowett Faull , and fche catering was entrusted to Mrs . Venables .

SKELMERSDALE LODGE , No . 1658 . rriHE W . M . Bro . William Croxson presided at the regular meating of this I Lodge , held at the Surrey Masonic Hall , Camberwell , on Thursday , 26 th ulfc ., and received the assistance of Bros . Earle Douglas White I . P . M ., R . Gabele S . W ., T . J . Rawlings J . W ., 3 . Hill P . M . Treas ., W . H . Boys P . BI . Sec , J . Farmer S . D ., E . S . Rice J . D ., 3 . Thorneloe I . G ., W . E . Bennett D . C , J . Gibbs Assist . Steward , J . Whiteman Tyler ; there were also present Past

Masters H . B . Bucbendge , Robert Rowland , Humphrey Cohen , and others ; with Bros . H . Biggs , J . Hibble , 3 . Pickering , R . S . Buckeridge , 0 . Emrnett , J . C . Davies , S . Morris , 3 . The Lodge being formed , the minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed . Lodge was then opened in the second degree , and Bros . R . A . Symonds and 3 . R . Papworth were examined and entrusted . The Lodge was opened in the third , and in due course those Brethren wore raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason .

The Lodgo was resumed to the first degree , and Bros . 3 . W . Tratt , W . H . Greenfield , 0 . F . Taverner and V . C . Penny having very well answered the questions leading to the second , were entrusted , and regularly passed to the degree of Fellow Cralt . Again the Lodge was resumed to the first degree , when the Worshipful

Master gave further proof of his ability , by initiating the five following gentlemen into Freemasonry : —Messrs " . Lewis George Bell , John Henry Danson , Robert Doyley Godefroy , Sidney Philip Smeltzer , aud William Robert Knapman , after which ceremony , by desire of the W . M ., Bro . R . Rowland P . M . gave the ancient charge .

The working of the Past Master and that of the present Worshipful Master was perfectly and impressively rendered . There wero several communications reported , after which the Lodge was closed .

The Brethren now retired , to partake of an excellent repast provided by the esteemed Hostess , Mrs . Venables . at the conclusion of which the W . M . in his usual eloquent style gave the introductory toasts . Bro . Side I . P . M . proposed the toast of the Worshipful Master who , he said , had bad a very busy day ; still there was plenty more work in view for him . His working that evening had been a credit to himself and to Freemasonry ; he had already surpassed every Master in the Lodge , and had won the high esteem and approbation of the members . He cordially invited the W . M .

to let the Brethren know something about the Ladies ' night ; during Bro . Buckeridge ' s year of office it was a great success , and no doubt it would be equally so under thc present ruler if he saw his way to arrange another . Thc W . M . had just informed him that in another few hours he would enter on the fiftieth anniversary of his birth , and he was sure they would all wish him many happy returns of the day , and as special jubilee honours , he would ask them to give an exceptional Masonic fire , to which call the Brethren most heartily responded .

The W . M . received another proof of his popularity in the Lodge on rising to respond . He thanked Bro . Sido for his very kind remarks , also for wishing him many happy returns of the following day , and also thanked tho Brethren for receiving the toast in so cordial a manner . He was pleased to say he would bs fifty years old ' in a few hours , " but really he did nofc feel

more than thirty-five , especially just then , when he had just heard thafc he had earned thc esteem of thc Brethren of the Lodge . He had dono his best in the Lodge , and he was sure the Skelmersdale was one of the very best in the south-eastern district . Concerning tho Ladies' night , arrangements would be made to meet the wishes of the Brp . thiv . n .

The W . M . next proposed the toast of the Initiates . By the attention they had paid to the ceremony he was sure they would do their very best to become acquisitions to the Lodge . Bro . Bell , in response , thanked the W . M . for having initiated him in such an impressive manner ; he also thanked all the members for the kind manner in which ihey had received him .

Bro . Danson added his thanks for the way in which the members ha < l accepted bim as a Brother amongst them . IL" . would do his best to merit their approval . Bro . Godefroy said he was more used to the ways of the Craft than when he came into thc Lodgo room . He hoped to bo spared to fill tho

honourable position then occupied by tho W . M . Ho thanked the Brethren for their vory cordial reception . Bro . Smeltzer said he could only endorse what the other Brethren had said , except that he desired to especially thank the W . M . for his kindness . Bro . Knapman said the ceremony had greatly impressed him , and he felt he should never forget it or his obligation . In time to come he hoped to be able to show the Brethren thafc their kindness that night was not misplaced .

The W . M . gave the toast of Bro . Marshall , who had given his name as a . joining member , and the compliment was acknowledged . The W . M . now in eloquent terms gave the toasfc of fche visitors . Bro . Whito said he felt more like a member of the Lodge than a visitor . Their reception was always most cordial , and their working was perfection . He highly complimented the W . M . on his performances , and sincerely congratulated him on his birthday . He hoped to do so again on many future occasions .

Bro . Edwards thanked Bro . Nilen for having invited him ; he thought he would have had a quiet night , but he had met with more than a dozen friends and to keep quiet amongst them would be rather difficult ; he was pleased with the working ol the W . M ., which had been a Masonic treat . Several other visitors also responded . By desire of tbo W . M , Bro . Side I . P . M . gave the toasfc of the Past Masters . Being one of the number he felt it was rather difficult for him to

give the toast , but the Past Masters were always prepared to render any assistance that was required of them , which was amply shown by the able manner in which Bro . Buckeridge had given the ancient charge , and by their Treasurer ' s willingness at all times to take their money without any murmur . Bro . Boys P . M . Secretary acknowledged the compliment . He felt now that notice had been given of the Ladies' night it would prove a great success . Bro . Hill Treasurer , Bro . Buckeridge P . BI ., and others made suitable response , as also did the Officers to tho ( oast proposed in their honour .

An excellent programme of music was provided , Miss Ethel Hunt , A . L . C . M . being especially encored . Bro . Humphrey Cohen P . M . gave a humorous recitation , while Bros . Frank Nilen , Frank Marshall , and several others added greatly to the enjoyment of the evening . Bro . A . E . Kipps in his usual able manner presided at the piano .

PROVINCIAL . — : o : — ELLIOT LODGE , No . 1567 .

riTHE election meeting took place at the Railway Hotel , Feltham , on I Saturday , 14 th ulfc . Bro . Walter Tyler , of Twickenham , W . M . was in the chair , and the attendance was one of the largest on record . Bro . W . Langdon , of Brentford , was elected Worshipful Master for the ensuing year . About forty-five of the Brethren sat down to the banquet , which was provided in faultless style by Bro . H . P . Harris , and the company spent a most convivial time .

ALBERT VICTOR LODGE , No , 1773 . THE regular meeting was held at the Town Hall , Pendleton , on Friday 20 th ult ., Brother Wm . Thos . Blease Worshipful Master . After the reading and confirmation of minutes , a successful ballot was taken for Mr . Harry Chas . David Scott , Cashier and Blanager , Higher Broughton , Blanchester , who was afterwards initiated into the mysteries and privileges of ancient Freemasonry by thc W . Bl ., assisted by Bros . T . M . Brown P . M ., who presented and explained the working tools ; and Wm . Woodeson J . W ., who delivered the anciont charge .

The election of Officers took place , and as Bro . W . Allen Smith fche present S . W . waived his claim to the chair on account of failing health , Bro . Woodeson J . W . was chosen unanimously as W . M .-elect . Before the business was concluded Bro . Gilbert L . Hardoastle presented to tbe Lodge a very handsome silver chain , ( o be worn in perpetuity by

occupants of the Master ' s chair . Home of the many solid shields which adorned the chain , and which assist to make it a fine work of art , already bear the names of those who had preceded Bro . Blease in the position . The inscription at the apex was as follows : — Presented to the

ALBEBT VICTOR LODGE , 1773 , by BBO . G . L . HAEDCASTLE , in loving remembrance of Bro . W . Hardoastle P . M . P . Z . P . P . G . D . C . D . C , a Founder of the Lodge , and to commemorate its Consecration , on October 23 rd , 1878 . October 23 rd , 1899 .

Bro . Samuel Statham P . BL P . P . G . Tr ., who accepted the chain on behalf of the Lodge , placed it upon , the shoulders of Bro . Blease W . BL , making afc the same time a very effective and characteristic speech . In reverting to the donor and his truly magnificent gift , he said this was a realisation in full of

the dearest wishes of Bro . Gilbert Hardcasfclc ' s father ( the late Bro . William Hardoastle ) who , for somo time previous to being summoned to the Grand Lodge above , had had in contemplation such a project as that for which it was his duty to return the most hearty thanks of all the members . Bro . Blease W . Bl . also replied .

At the festive board which followed , musical and other sketches were given , the contributaries being B os . J . B . Kenyon , Fred Daniels , G . L . Hardoastle , Rev . W . G . Edward Rees , BI . A ., Fred Blorgan W . M . 2359 , J . W . Nicholls P . M . 1134 , Edward Roberts P . M . Prov . G . Tlr ., and Frank Hewitt P . BL D . C . 2216 , a pleasant evening being spent .

THREE days nffcerwards ( Monday , 23 rd ) in the same building , tbe coming of age of the Lodge was celebrated . The function was a brilliant one , being attended by something like eighty people , including members and friends , most of these being accompanied by a lady . The large room of the

Town Hall had been divided into two portions , one arranged as a drawing room , where fche gues'S were received by the W . M . and wife , and by Bro . S . Statham ( the first W . Bl . ) aud his daughters—Mrs . John Knight , and Mrs . Blarsden ; whilst in the other division a recherche dinner was served , the tables and general surroundings presenting a very attractive appearance . "

An efficient quartette , under the coviductorsbip of Bro . J . H . Greenwood P . BL 2387 Prov . G . Org ., discour .-ed some excellent music during the evening , which was in agreeable harmony with the various interesting speeches . The chair was occupied by Bro . William Hardoastle ) who , for somo time previous to being summoned to the Grand Lodge above , had had in contemplation such a project as that for which it was his duty to return the most hearty thanks of all the members . A ., Fred Blorgan W . M . 2359 , J . W . Nicholls P . M . 1134 , Edward Roberts P . M . Prov . G . Tlr ., and Frank Hewitt P . BL D . C . 2216 , a pleasant evening being spent .

THREE days nffcerwards ( Monday , 23 rd ) in the same building , tbe coming of age of the Lodge was celebrated . The function was a brilliant one , being attended by something like eighty people , including members and friends , most of these being accompanied by a lady . The large room of the

Town Hall had been divided into two portions , one arranged as a drawing room , where fche gues'S were received by the W . M . and wife , and by Bro . S . Statham ( the first W . Bl . ) aud his daughters—Mrs . John Knight , and Mrs . Blarsden ; whilst in the other division a recherche dinner was served , the tables and general surroundings presenting a very attractive appearance . "

An efficient quartette , under the coviductorsbip of Bro . J . H . Greenwood P . BL 2387 Prov . G .
