ON Thursday of last week the County Borough of Hanley presented an unwonted spectacle—her main streets were filled with a vast funeral procession , and signs of mourning were general . It was the passing to their last earthly resting place in the Borough Cemetery all that was mortal of our late Brother

William Tunnicliff , J . P .. Captain and Hon . Major 1 st V . B . N . S . Eegiment , P . M . 418 P . P . J . G . W . Staffordshire , who , from his large-heartedness , had secured the esteem and affection of all who knew him . A Volunteer of thirty-eight years continuous active service , a Freemason of over twenty-one years standing , and a

townsman always ready to give his time , labour , and money to any good wort , he had made for himself an almost unique position in the hearts of his fellow citizens . As a Freemason few Brethren , if any , held such a high place in the estimation of the Craft in North Staffordshire , as did Brother Tunnicliff . A member of

three Lodges—Menturia , Etruscan , and St . Michael ; of the Gough Mark Lodge and Staffordshire Knot E . A . Chapter , he was to tbe fore in all Masonic work in his district , but his " love of

loves " was his mother Lodge , the Menturia , No . 418 , and he could not do too much for her ; at any time and all times he was at her service , and the Brethren of that Lodge sincerely mourn his loss as a Brother , a friend , and a townsman .

ON the 15 th ult . Bro . James Sanders , who recently returned home from China , died suddenly at Stonehouse . With one or two naval friends he was about to attend a meeting of the Metham Lodge , and in the ante-room was divesting himself of his overcoat , when he suddenly sank to the ground , and appeared to

be very ill . Mr . W . H . Wateriield , surgeon , was speedily summoned , and on his arrival he could only pronounce life extinct . Bro . Sanders leaves a wife and one child . He was much respected , and the fact of his having just returned home from

foreign service lends additional sadness to his sudden and almost tragic death . It need hardly be said . that the Worshipful Master of the Lodge immediately directed a postponement of all proceedings .

ON Thursday , 25 th ult ., the remains of the late Bro . Henry Valentine Dudgeon , who died at the Grapes Hotel , Derby Eoad , Bootle , were interred at Anfield Cemetery . The deceased ,

who was much respected , was formerly a corporal of the Eoyal Artillery , resigning ten years ago to commence business . The Temple Lodge , No . 1094 , with which the deceased was connected , was largely represented .
