Ourselves.

OURSELVES .

ANOTHER year has come to a close , and with it has ended the twentieth year in the life of the F REEMASON ' C HBONICLE , which we are pleased to say has suffered no diminution in popularity during the time it has been under

our control . We recognise , however , that some effort is necessary on our part to place the paper on a better basis , and as we regard the commencement of its twenty-first year as an opportune moment for an alteration , we have decided to enlarge the paper as a preliminary towards making it yet

more deserving of support . We cordially thank our friends of tbe past for what they have done for the CHRONICLE , and hope our efforts will be so

appreciated as to secure even greater encouragement in the future . We shall use every effort in our power to win success , and hope by conducting the paper on the same lines as has been hitherto followed to secure it , at the same time conferring some benefit on fche cause we have at heart—fche advancement of English Freemasonry .

MASONIC CHARITY IN THE PAST YEAR .

THE year 1894 has proved to be one of continued success for tbe three Charitable Institutions of the Craft , which have not only maintained the position they reached last year , but have received nearly £ 6 , 000 beyond the total then secured , the actual figures being £ 59 , 051 14 s 9 d for 1893 and £ 65 , 012 7 s 8 d for 1894 .

The improvement more particularly affects the Educational Funds , both of which show large increases , the last total of the Girls School being £ 2 , 991 3 s lid above 1893 , while that of fche Boys shows an addition of £ 2 , 623 7 s 9 d .

This leaves but £ 346 ls 3 d for the share of the Benevolent Institution in the year ' s improvement , but even this is creditable to that Fund in view of fche facfc that in 1892 its receipts rose to £ 61 , 849 2 s 6 d , the special attraction then

being the celebration of the Jubilee of the foundation of the Institution , and ifc is bufc rational to imagine that so large a total would have a palpable effect on fche receipts of the near future .

Ifc is , then , our pleasure to be able to congratulate all of the Institutions on the result of the year ' s working , and we do so in all sincerity , feeling assured that every one of our readers will join in fche wish that the present year may show

as much improvement over 1894 as that did over the receipts of its predecessor . The summary of receipts for the years 1893 and 1894 is as follows :
