GLEANINGS .

_ A WOMAN ' S FAITH IN MASONRY . —The following incident , illustrating a woman ' s faith in Masonry , was told us by J . D . U of Harrodsburg , Indiana . We will give it as near as possible in ou brother ' s own words : " In the year 1861 my mother came from Terre Haute to Greencastle Junction , on the Vandalla Line . In

paying her fare the conductor gave her in change a two dollar bill , which the proprietor of the Junction Hotel refused to take , saying ib was below par . Mother asked him if he was a Mason . He said he was . She asked him if the conductor was a Mason , and he said he was . She then asked him if he was acquainted with me , and he replied

that he was . Mother then told him to take the bill , and get a good one in place of it , and send it to me . When mother arrived home she told me what she had done . I laughed , and told her that was

the last of her two dollar bill . ' Oh no ! ' says she , ' that man was a Mason , and it will be all right ; and so it proved to be . A good bill came in place of it in a few days . The true Mason is always an honest man . —Masonic Advocate .

THE THREE VERSES . —The Hebrew Leader publishes the following three verses from Isaac Leeser ' s translation of the Bible : — 1 . And he set up the pillars for the porch of the Temple , and he set up the right pillar , and he called its name Tachins ; and he set up the left pillar and called its name Boaz . —1 Kings vii . 12 .

2 . Then they said unto him , Do say Shibboleth ; but when he said Sibboleth , and was not able to pronounce it correctly , they laid hold of him and slew him on the passages of the Jordan , and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand . — Judges xii . 6 .

3 . And Zillah , she also bore Tubal Cain , an artificer in every article of copper and iron ; and the sister of Tubal Cain was Naamah . — Gen . iv . 22 . THE WAYS OF MASONRY . —Masonry depends not on excitement or agitation . It has ways peculiar to itself . It never has or will change

its landmarks , amid turmoil and change it abides ever the same . It has ^ a history fragrant with deeds of love . It has performed its work amid the storm and calm of the various epochs through which it has passed . All that is required ia a rigid adherence to the teachings of

« 8 ritual . There is no glamour about Craft Masonry . Simplicity is its corner stone . There is no society so free from fustian as Bine Lodge Masonry . There is a quiet dignity to be found there that has no rival . —Masonic Journal .
