r iHE Quarterly Communication of Grand Lodge was held - * - on Wednesday , at Freemasons' Hall , London , under the presidency of Earl Amherst Deputy Grand Master , who
was supported by Bro . W . W . B . Beach , M . P ., Prov . G . M . Hants and Isle of Wight as D . G . M ., Dr . Egan as P . G . M ., Robert Grey as S . W ., Rev . C . J . Martyn P . G . C . as J . W ., and many others .
Rev . Canon Childe , LL . D ., Grand Chaplain offered up prayer , and Grand Lodge was declared duly open . The minutes having been confirmed , the communications from the M . W . Grand Master were read . Bro . R . H .
Smith , Q . C ., Deputy Grand Registrar referred to the case of Brothei Fairchild , formal proof of his conviction being produced , and previous cases of a similar character being referred to . It was urged that if a Mason in such
circumstances was not fit company for an ordinary Lodge , he certainly was not fit to be a member of Grand Lodge . At the expiration of his sentence , however , he might claim to rank as a Grand Officer , unless removed . It was not
necessary to expel him from the Craft , as he did not belong to any Lodge now , and could not enter one without an explanation ; he was , therefore , practically an outcast . It was subsequently proposed that , Grand Lodge having
considered the recommendation of the Grand Master , agrees to deprive the Brother concerned of his rank in Grand Lodge . This was seconded by Bro . Loveland Loveland President of the Board of General Purposes , and regularly carried .
The communication from the M . W . Pro Grand Master was next read , and was to the following effect : Lathom House , Ormskirk , 30 th December 1897 .

The Prince of Wales was re-elected Grand Master , and a telegram from the Prince of Wales Lodge , No . 1003 , Jersey , was read , complimenting His Royal Highness on his re-appointment .
Bro . Lieut-Col . Clifford Probyn P . M . 18 was declared duly elected Grand Treasurer , the different Reports were adopted , and Grand Lodge was closed .

' I lHE Quarterly meeting , was held on Tuesday , at Mark - * - Masons Hall , when the Earl of Euston Pro Grand Master presided , supported by Bro . W . W . B . Beach , M . P ., as P . G . M ., Hon . Alan de Tatton Egerton Deputy G . M ., Lord Addington as S . W ., Sir Joseph Dimsdale as J . W ., and others .

The Prince of Wales was unanimously re-elected , for the thirteenth year in succession , Most Worshipful Grand Mark Master .
Bro . William Mason Stiles Past Grand Treasurer of the Craft was unanimously elected Grand Treasurer , other business was transacted , and Grand Lodge was regularly closed .

THE complete results of the Cambridge University Local Examinations , held December last , are now to hand , and show that our Boys have scored well , with a total of sixty-three certificates , ten Honours and four "Distinctions , "
as follows : Seniors : —( Age , 16 to 19 ) One boy gained a Second Class , one a Third Class , and seven others passed . Average age , sixteen years , four months .
Juniors : —( Age , up to 16 ) One boy gained a Second Class , four a Third Class , and sixteen others passed . Average age , fourteen years , two months .
Preliminary : —( Age , up to 14 ) Two boys gained a Second Class , one a Third Class , and thirty others passed . There were four "Distinctions" for French , English , and History . Average age , thirteen years , three months .
During the eight years of the present management 35 Candidates have passed the "Senior , " 187 the "Junior , " and 99 the " Preliminary " Cambridge Local Examinations . Of this total of 321 , 58 have gained " Honours , " and there have been twenty-three "Distinctions . "
A second Charities Association has been started in connection with the Citadel Lodge of Instruction , No . 18 97 , the first Association , founded in October 18 95 , being now near its completion . This combination of Brethren has been instrumental in providing upwards of four hundred guineas
in Life Subscriberships to the three central Institutions of the Craft , during the two and a quarter years of its existence , and we hope a similarly pleasing result will follow the efforts of the Brethren who are now arranging a second series . The terms of payment are the usual ones—at the rate of one
shilling per share , per week—ballots being taken as soon as sufficient funds are in hand . The membership is not limited to any Lodge , and Brethren , Ladies or Lewises who may desire to avail themselves of this convenient method of supporting our Institutions will be heartily / welcomed as
members by Bro . Harry Willsmer , the Hon . Secretary , 4 6 Birchington Road , Kilburn , N . W . ) . Bro . Fred . Dunstan P . M . is the President of the Association , and Bro . T . I . Bird P . M . its Treasurer , meetings being held on the
occasion of the regular gatherings of the Lodge to which it is attached—on Friday evenings , from 8 to 10 p . m ., at the Farleigh Hotel , Amhurst Road , Stoke Newington ( near West Hackney Church ) .
A lecture on "Obsolete Masonic Symbolism " will be given by Bro G . W . Speth P . M . 18 3 Sec . 2075 Past A .. G . D . C , on Sunday evening , 13 th inst ., at the regular meeting of the Israel Lodge of Instruction , No . 205 , held at
the "Rising Sun , " Globe Road , Bethnal Green , E ., commencing at half past six o ' clock . We are sure visiting Brethren will be heartily welcomed on the occasion , which promises to be another one of the marked successes arranged by this enterprising Lodge of Instruction .
