The usual formalities having been observed , Lodge was advanced and the ceremony of raising was rehearsed . When the ceremony had reached the point at which the Candidate is at liberty to retire , the Secretary Bro . J . Percy Fitzgerald requested the W . M . in the chair to resume the Lodge in the first degree .

This having been done , Bro . Fitzgerald announced that that day , 29 th April , was their esteemed Preceptor ' s birthday , and the W . M . in the chair was desired to present , on behalf of the Committee of the Club , to their Preceptor , a beautiful silver ornamented letter-case and memorandum book , bearing the following inscription :

Presented to W . Biio . EGBERT MAHUEL by The Committee of the Logic Club . Sunday , 29 th April 1900 .

It was obvious the Preceptor had been taken completely by surprise , and before he could recover from it the W . M . in the chair called off from labour to refreshment , when the whole of the Members of the Club present , with their Visitors , adjourned to the Club Refreshment Room , where the W . M . in the chair

gracefully proposed many happy returns of the day to their popular Preceptor . The toast was drunk with three hearty cheers , and then Bro . Robert Manuel cordially thanked the Members of the Committee for their tasteful and unexpected present , and the members generally for the warmth of their reception .

Bro . McLeod added that the members might like to know that the 29 th April was not only their Preceptor ' s birthday , but was the anniversary also of that Brother ' s call to the Bar of England . The Lodge was then called on , when Bro . E . Gatfield was elected W . M . for Sunday , 13 th inst ., and arranged to rehearse the second degree , with explanation of the second tracing board , the Officers to be in rotation .

The Secretary read a communication from the Grand Secretary expressing the thanks of H . R . H . the M . W . Grand Master for the congratulations of the Club on his recent escape from assassination , which congratulations were cabled to Copenhagen on the Sunday following the dastardly attempt on the life of His Royal Highness .

Bros . Henry Clark 1196 , and C . H . Allen Gill J . D . 969 , were elected Members of the Musical Committee . Bro . W . T . Rowe P . M . 2021 was cordially welcomed , and congratulated on his return to the Club for the first time since his recent severe indisposition .

Amongst the Grand Officers of the year there are three members of the Logic Club : Bros . Harry Manfield Grand Treasurer , Guy Repton Senior Grand Deacon , and J . H . Whadcoat Junior Grand Deacon .

To-morrow ( Sunday ) , at 11 a . m ., the members of the Genesius Club pay their annual visit to the Logic Club , when the first and second degrees will be rehearsed by the following members of the Genesius Club : Bros . Herbert Leonard as W . M ., J . W . Matthews S . W ., Akerman May J . W ., A . H . Snow S . D ., C . T . Coggin J . D ., Edwin Smith I . G ., Albert J . Taylor Tyler , Hubert

Willis Candidate , and W . Lestocq Preceptor Genesius Club I . P . M . The Logic Club was founded nearly twenty years ago by Bros . John Maclean , George Buckland , and James Percy Fitzgerald . It has contributed through its Charities Association over 3 , 000 guineas to the three Masonic Institutions , and the Club has become increasingly influential throughout the great world of

Freemasonry , especially so since facilities have been afforded for the study of the Logic working , which has done so much to foster and encourage the reverent and perfect rendering , in every detail , of our beautiful ceremonies . The Preceptor , Secretary , Officers , Committee , and members are to be congratulated on the splendid work they have done , , and are doing , for the good of Freemasonry in general .

Installations.

INSTALLATIONS .

WELSHPOOL LODGE , No . 898 . Installation of Brother Joseph H . Davies . 1 ~ 1 HE annual festival took place at Welshpool , on the 27 fch ult ., when Brother Joseph H . Davies was installed Worshipful Master for the ensuing twelve months , the Installing Master being Bro . Edward Wyke , assisted by P . M . Charles Shuker .

The Brethren afterwards sat down to an excellent banquet provided by Miss Frost , at the Royal Oak Hotel . The W . M . presided , and the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were honoured . A vote of congratulation and sympathy with the M . W . the Grand

Master was passed . A jewel was also presented to Bro . E . Wyke , in recognition of the manner in which he had conducted the Mastership of the Lodge during the last year . This was presented on the part of the Lodge by Bro . C . Shuker .

ST . CLAIR LODGE , No . 2074 . Installation of Brother C . H . Oakley . IN honour of the installation of Bro . Oakley there was a large gathering on Monday evening , 23 rd ult ., at the Masonic Hall , Landport . The company included not only a number of Provincial Officers and the Masters of most of the neighbouring

Lodges , but two Officers of Grand Lodge , in the persons of Bros . W . B . Mason G . St . B ., and Rear-Admiral William H . C . St . Clair S . G . D ., Founder of the Lodge and its first Master . The installation was performed by the retiring W . M . Bro . H , Jago , whose excellent work was very heartily acknowledged .

Three presentations were made before the proceedings ended , a jewel being given to the I . P . M . with the best thanks of the Lodge , while the Secretary was the recipient of a gift from the Lodge in recognition of nearly seven years valuable services , and of a handsome silver teapot from the I . P . M .

Provincial.

PROVINCIAL .

LODGE OF FAITH , No . 581 .. THE regular meeting was held at the Bradford Hotel , Mill Street , Manchester , on Wednesday , 18 th ult ., Bro . Dr . E . Evanson Jones Worshipful Master . After the reading and confirmation of minutes , a successful ballot was taken for Mr . James Wallwork , Manager , Ardwich , Manchester , who wag subsequently initiated into the mysteries and privileges of Ancient Freemasonry by Bro . W . Greenup P . M . D . O .

Lodge having been advanced , Brother John Wavburton was raised to the sublime degree of M . M . by the Worshipful Master , the traditional history being given by Bro . Wm . Jones P . M . Other important business followed , after which Lodge was closed , and the Brethren adjourned to the festive board . Loyal and Masonic toasts were pleasantly varied by the singing and recitative efforts of Bros . 0 . H . Griffiths I . P . M ., J . T . Moorhouse , A . Dobson , A . Mellor , B . Roberts P . M . 1459 , and others .

MINNEHAHA MINSTREL LODGE ,. No . 2363 . THE regular meeting was held at the Victoria Hotel , Manchester , on Monday , 23 rd ult ., Brother Sam Luke W . M . After the confirmation of minutes and the reading of an ancient charge , Brother Matthew Henry Chapman was raised to the sublime degree of M . M . by Bro . Luke , who also gave the traditional history , and explanation _ of the third degree tracing hoard , primarily for the benefit of Bros . Irwin , Gabriel , Crankshaw , Whitfield , and the newly-raised Brother .
