CONFIDENCE LODGE , No . 193 . THE Brethren turned up in full strength at the usual Wednesday meeting , at the Bunch of Grapes , Leadenhall Market , when Bro . Hattersley occupied the chair , supported by Bros . Pinnock P . M . Preceptor , Done S . W ., Carr J . W ., Cooke S . D ., Eowland J . D ., Bushell I . G ; , Pitt Secretary .

The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bros . Simeons , Latham , and Bailey offering themselves as candidates . Bro . Simeons , who was elected , gave the answers and the obligation in a solemn manner and grand style . The ceremony of passing was also rehearsed by the W . M ., and this being the first time he had worked the second degree he was highly commended .

Brother P . M . Davey announced that the summer outing had been arranged , and that particulars would be sent to the Brethren of the Mother Lodge in a few days . It was also announced that Bro . Carr would represent the Lodge at the Girls Festival . Bro . Done was elected to occupy the chair on Wednesday next .

The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Barrett acting as candidate , after which Bro . Gumming opened the Lodge to the third degree and closed down to the second . He then vacated the chair in favour of the Preceptor , who resumed the Lodge to the first degree , and examined and entrusted Bro . Smith , afterwards rehearsing the ceremony of passing , in a most perfect manner .

I he Lodge was opened in the three degrees , and resumed to the first , when the ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , including the ancient charge , Bro , J . Cox kindly acting as candidate . The Lodge was opened in the second degree , and Bro . Sergeant answered the questions , and was entrusted . The Lodge was further advanced , and the ceremony of raising was rehearsed . Both the ceremonies weie perfectly rendered . The Lodge was resumed to the first degree , and Bro . Dyer was re-elected W . M . for Monday i . ext .

Bro . J . Cox P . M . tendered his resignation of the pest of Secretary , on account of many other calls upon his time . He said he had business in the country , and although he was really sorry to leave them the distance would not allow of his attendance . The W . M . said he was very sorry , and felt all the members wore also , as it would be a difficult matter to find so capable a Brother to serve them as Secretary . Bro . Spring offered his services pro . tern ., and they were accepted .

The Deputy Preceptor proposed that a hearty vote of thanks be accorded to Bro . Cox , and recorded on the minutes , as a recognition of the great services rendered by that Brother in the capacity of Secretary . This was unanimously agreed to , and the compliment was suitably acknowledged .

SKELMERSDALE LODGE , No . 1658 . THERE was a combination of attractive features surrounding the meeting of this Lodge which we attended on Sunday evening , at the house of Bro . Frank Nilen , the Rockingham Tavern , Newington Causeway , S . E ., and we were very gratified at . the work we then witnessed . The members of the Mother Lodge are well known for their good working of the ceremonies , not only in the south-east of London , but throughout the metropolis , and the Instruction Lodge attached well supports their reputation , under the able Preceptorship of Bro . C . Plant P . M .

Sunday ' s meeting was presided over by Bro . B . Cohen , who had the support of Bros . J . Farmer J . W . of the Mother Lodge as S . W ., J . C . Davis J . W ., 0 . Plant P . M . Preceptor , H . B . Buckeridge P . M . 1658 acting Sec , R . B . Hopkins ( the king of the Silver Bells ) S . D ., F . Budge J . D ., Philip Last I . G ., J . Humphries P . M ., Swinford Smith P . M ., H . Cohen P . answered the questions in a perfect manner . Bro . T . Cox was entrusted . The Lodge was further advanced , and the ceremony of raising was rehearsed . The Lodge was resumed to the first degree , and the W . M . received well earned compliment from the Brethren , for his impressive and faultles * working .

Bro . E . H . Smyth was made a member , whilst Bro . J . Wynman was elected an Honorary Member . Both those Brethren acknowledged the compliment . Bro . Swinford Smith P . M . said that he was an Honorary Member of the Mother Lodge , and that was his first visit for some time . He could not do otherwise that congratulate the W . M ., also Bro . C . Plant their Preceptor , on

the progress , the Instruction Lodge had made since its foundation . It was most desirable for the members of the Mother Lodge to have an Instruction Lodge attached to it , and he was very pleased to see theirs so well attended by the members of the Mother Lodge . He wished the Lodge every prosperity . The W . M . thanked Bro . Smith for his kind remarks and good wishes .

Bro . James Farmer will preside to-morrow ( Sunday ) , when we expect another good attendance .

BROMLEY ST . LEONARD LODGE , No . 1805 . THE capabilities of Bro . J . De Gasseres as a Preceptor are well known , and we were amply repaid for our trouble when we paid a visit to this Lodge on Wednesday , 25 th ult ., at the well appointed Masonic Rooms of

Bro . James W . Gibbs P . M ., the Bow Bells , Bow Road , E . We were especially pleased to see the courteous way in which Bro . Gasseres treated every Brother alike ; his firmness in the Lodge as the Preceptor we highly admire ; and we congratulate the Brethren on having so excellent a worker to act as tutor of the Lodge .

We cannot let the opportunity pass without complimenting Bro . Johnson on the perfect and impressive manner in which he worked .

Bro . Lotheim was elected W . M . for Wednesday last , and his working being always much admired we expect to report an exceptionally good meeting on that occasion . The Lodge meet * every Wednesday , at 8 o ' clock , and Brethren wishing to improve their Masonic knowledge could not do better than pay it a visit , as with confidence we can highly recommend Bro . De Gasseres as an excellent and painstaking Preceptor ,

Bro . E . H . Smyth was made a member , whilst Bro . J . Wynman was elected an Honorary Member . Both those Brethren acknowledged the compliment . Bro . Swinford Smith P . M . said that he was an Honorary Member of the Mother Lodge , and that was his first visit for some time . He could not do otherwise that congratulate the W . M ., also Bro . C . Plant their Preceptor , on

the progress , the Instruction Lodge had made since its foundation . It was most desirable for the members of the Mother Lodge to have an Instruction Lodge attached to it , and he was very pleased to see theirs so well attended by the members of the Mother Lodge . He wished the Lodge every prosperity . The W . M . thanked Bro . Smith for his kind remarks and good wishes .

The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Warwick being the candidate . The Lodge was opened in the second degree , and the ceremony of installation was rehearsed , Bro . Gulverhouse being presented and duly installed , and afterwards appointing the Officers . Bro . Cawley delivered the addresses . All the working was perfectly rendered . Bro . Higgins 2626 was elected a member , and Bro . Warwick W . M . for Monday next .

Bro . James W . Gibbs P . M ., the Bow Bells , Bow Road , E . We were especially pleased to see the courteous way in which Bro . Gasseres treated every Brother alike ; his firmness in the Lodge as the Preceptor we highly admire ; and we congratulate the Brethren on having so excellent a worker to act as tutor of the Lodge .

Bro . Corper acted as candidate . By desire of the W . M . Bro . Torlowsky , with the assistance of the Brethren , worked the first section of the lecture , which was highly appreciated by the Brethren . We cannot let the opportunity pass without complimenting Bro . Johnson on the perfect and impressive manner in which he worked .

Bro . Lotheim was elected W . M . for Wednesday last , and his working being always much admired we expect to report an exceptionally good meeting on that occasion . The Lodge meet * every Wednesday , at 8 o ' clock , and Brethren wishing to improve their Masonic knowledge could not do better than pay it a visit , as with confidence we can highly recommend Bro . De Gasseres as an excellent and painstaking Preceptor ,
