Bros . W . T . Rouse , J . A . Wilkins , and N . W- Hobberton , candidates for the second degree , were examined and entrusted . The Lodge was opened in the second degree , and those Brethren were duly passed as Fellow Crafts . .. Lodge was resumed to the first degree , and the usual formalities having been observed Messrs . Walter Stevenson , John Hope , and Thomas William How were regularly initiated into the mysteries of Freemasonry .

This concluded the work of the day , which throughout had been performed in excellent style by the W . M ., who thereupon proceeded to close his Lodge . The Brethren now adjourned to the banquet room , whore an excellent Repast had been prepared by the host Bro . George Callingham , who was complimented for the provision he had made for his guests . The remainder of the evening was spent in social enjoyment .

CHOUGH LODGE , No . 2264 . THE first meeting of this Lodge since the installation o £ Bro . Saqui as its Worshipful Master took place at the Cannon Street Hotel , on Thursday , under the presidency of that Brother , who was supported by Bros . W . Vincent Jull I . P . M ., M . 3 . Almond S . W ., A . Haynes J . W ., E . T . Edwards P . M . Treas ., J . - W . Dewsnap P . M . Sec , 0 . Frohlich S . D ., J . A .

J . Bushell were passed as Fellow Crafts .

Some minor matters of business having been disposed of the Lodge was closed , and the company sat down to refreshment , served in good style under the supervision of Bro . W . G . Feneley , the active manager of this famed Hotel . After the dinner the Charity box was sent round , and then the W . M . proceeded with the customary toast list , the name of Brother Walter Martin P . A . G . P . being coupled with that of the Grand Officers . *

In responding , Bro . Martin said how pleased he was to have seen the really perfect working of the Master and Officers that day—it had certainly been a credit to the Lodge . Bro . Martin also referred to the handsome way in which the Lodge supported the Institutions , and urged the Brethren to do all they could in aid of the Charities . Bro . W . Vincent Jull I . P ^ M . proposed the- health of the Worshipful

Master , whom he described as a Freemason who had the interests of the Craft at heart . Bro . Jull said the Brethren of the Lodge had nobly supported him during his year of office , as a Steward for the Boys School , and he hoped they would be equally liberal towards the present Master , who would represent their Lodge as a Steward next year , as they wanted him to go up to the Festival with flying colours .

The W . M . thanked his predecessor for his kind remarks and good wishes , and the Brethren generally for the heartiness of their reception . He hoped to receive such support for his Stewardship as to be able to take up such a list as would be a credit to the Lodge . In proposing the toast of the Visitors the W . M . referred to the fact of its being an off night in the Lodge ; nevertheless he hoped all had enjoyed themselves both in the inner and outer working . The members of the Chough Lodge were always pleased to see visitors , who might rely on receiving the most hearty of welcomes it was possible to accord .

Bro . Holland tendered thanks for the very kind manner in which the Visitors had been welcomed that night . He complimented the Lodge on the excellence of its working , and the great interest taken by its members in the work of Masonic Charity . . Bro . Hinchcliff and . other of the visitors also acknowledged tbe toast . The toast of the Past Masters called for kindly references from tho W . M . of Bro . Marcus , Bro . Smith , and others , each being referred to as over ready to do anything in his power for the welfare of the Lodge .

Bro . Marcus was sorry to see so few of his fellow Past Blasters present , It was not any unwillingness on their part that kept them away , but the calls of their private or business avocation . Other of the Past Masters also responded . The W . M . was most enthusiastic in his remarks as to tbe Treasurer and Secretary of tho Lodge , when ho proposed tho toast in their honour , and Bro . Dewsnap made a ready response to the hearty ; greeting he received " . '

The Treasurer Bro . Edwards—the first Master of the Lodge—said its evolution was evidenced . in the steady improvement in the way in which the work of the Lodge and the duties of the chair had been carried but . "Each Worshipful Master had taken as his model his predecessor , and had improved upon that model . All the best characteristics of Freemasonry were shown

by the Chough Lodge—within its door all differences of opinion were banished , and from him who laid , his hand on his breast and humbly said "I do not know , " to -the members of the oldest faith the world has known , all met at the festive board under the influence of the great Masonic principles of Brotherly Love , Relief and Truth . . ¦ ¦

Royal Standard Lodge , No , 1298 , was / installed in a very impressive manner by Bro . A . R . Trew P . M . P . P . G . S , D . Suffolk .- ;; ... .- The Woodgrange Lodge has been remarkably successful . Although only consecrated in September 1891 , it now numbers nearly ninety members , and in addition to . contributing upwards of £ 1 , 200 to the Masonic Charities , haa subscribed £ 140 to the West Ham Hospital .

There was a numerous gathering at the banquet following the meeting , ' which was provided in a sumptuous manner by Bro . James Copper , the proprietor of the Princess Alice Hotel , and an excellent musical programme was rendered under the direction of Bro . J . B . Gilbert F . R . C . O . ( Borough

Organist ) Organist of the Lodge . During the' evening the Brethren generously contributed to Bro . Wilkinson ' s list for the Girls School ,- whioh he intends to represent as a Steward at the forthcoming Festival in May next , under the presidency ol Viscount Dungarvan Provincial Grand Master for Somerset .
