candidate , ho had given sufficient proof to the brethren that he could have performed any number of ceremonies . Every member of the Lodge was proud of their I . P . M ., who would doubtless be reqnested to perform other duties during the forthcoming year , and would do them equally well , as in the past . As a slight recognition of the valuable services he had rendered , he ( Bro . Selby ) felt the greatest pleasure in presenting him with a Past Master ' s jewel , hoping that

he might be long spared to wear it amongst them . The I . P . M . returned thanks in appropriate terms . The remaining toaste included the Visitors , the P . M . ' s , the Officers , Musical Brethren , and Masonic Charities , a memorable and mosfc enjoyable evening being spent . Songs and recitations were rendered by Bros . Martin Thomas , Wrigley , Mortimer , Howard , Antonie , Fitzsimmons , and Lisenden .

ANGEL LODGE , No . 51 . rpHE monthly meeting of this Lodge was held on Thursday , 28 th X ult . An interesting featnro of the proceedings was that Bro . Ernest L . Railing , the Inner Gnard of the Lodge , attended to bid farewell to tho Brethren on the evo of his departure for Cape Town . Bro . Railing , in addressing the Lodge , said one of the regrets which he felt on leaving tbe old country was the severance of many ties ,

not the least of whioh was that which bound him to the Augel Lodge . When ho accepted office , last October , he did so in the hopo that he should be able to fulfil the duties , and , perhaps , afc the end of his year , be called to higher functions . In now taking his leave of the Brethren he should not lose his interest in the Lodge , but trusted

that he might hear in the home of his adoption of its continued prosperity . The W . M . ( Bro . F . C . H . Jones ) expressed hia regret at losing the services of Bro . Railing as an Officer of the Lodge , but in the name of the Brethren wished him a safe and pleasant voyage , and every prosperity in his new home .

( England ) , took place at a Lodge of emergency , held at the King ' s Head Hotel , High Street , on Wednes . day , the 27 th ult . The W . M . having read tho notice convening tho Lodge of Emergency , and the dispensation authorising the same , the

A LODGE OF SORROW . r pHE Freemasons of Leeds gathered in large numbers to testify JL their sense of the loss sustained by the Craft by the death of a young , bnt already distinguished member . Abont 100 brethren of the eight Leeds Lodges ottended at tho Masonio Hall , in Groat George-street . The furniture of the Lodge was draped in black , and the brethren each had a sprig of ac » cia upon his breast . Bro . D .

Wedderspoou , Worship ful Master of Alfred Lodge , occopied the Worshipful Master ' s chair . In a few sentences Bro . Henry Smith , Deputy Provincial Grand Master of West Yorkshire , expressed the deep sympathy of the brethren with the Queen and tho other members oftho Royal Family in the great calamity which had

overtaken them . Bro . C L . Mason followed , with a sympathetic address , in which te g'lve a losnme of the deceased Prince ' s connection with the Order . Then tho brethren marched to the parish church and took up the poail ions assigned to them on either side of the choir .

The Mayor ; ind Corporation nnd the Magistrates 03 cupied the Corporation s-talls , and neur to thorn in thc navo were tho Officers of the 14 th Hussars and of tho local Volunteer regiments , whose uniforms belpo . l to emphasise the sombre black in which the general congregation was clad .

Foan Assistant Preceptor proposed that a heaity aod cordial voto of thanks be recorded on the minutes

The sixth annual ball promoted "b y tbo brethren of thc Royal "Wharfedale Lodgo of Freemasons , No . 1108 , Otley , in aid of tho Masonic Charities , took piano on the 2 Cth ulfc ., in the Mechanics' Hall , Ofcloy . As iu former years ifc was well attended .
