A SOMEWHAT heated discussion anent Freemasonry took place at the quarterly meeting of the Tamworth Town Council on Thursday . The Marmion Lodge of Freemasons applied for the use of
the State Dming Eoom at the Castle , and the Oak Drawing Eoom adjoining , for the purposes of a Lodge meeting once a month . The Castle Committee recommended that the Lodge be allowed the use of the rooms at a rent of £ 16 per annum .
Mr . Dyer said although he seconded the resolution in Committee he had since found that there was a strong feeling against letting the rooms to the Freemasons , and he accordingly wished to withdraw from ib . Alderman Starkey said two of the
best rooms in the Castle would be occupied by the Freemasons , and visitors would be precluded from seeing those . Mr . Luby said he supported the motion in Committee , but had since heard there was a great deal of objection to letting the rooms , and he should not now support it . Mr . Salt pointed out that if they
