BRITISH LODGE , No . 334 . 1 THE eighty-fourth election meeting took place at the Temple , Roeland Street , Capetown , on Wednesday , 15 th May , when the following were elected :-Bros . G . E . O . Bennett D . G . P . W . M ., W . E . Goodman P . D . G . S . B . Treasurer , and A . E . Buxton D . G . T . Tyler . Of the institutions of a similar character in connection with the English Constitution in tho Cape Colony , says tbe " Cape Times , "! the British Lodge stands forth pre-eminently in antiquity and importance , and includes

amongst its members a large number of the mercantile , professional , and official classes of the community . It is a far cry backwards to 1811 , the year of its formation , just five years after the permanent arrival of British forces in 1806 , during the year of the first Kaffir war . It would be invidious to mention a few names amongst the long roll of its sons who have distinguished themselves in well nigh every walk of life—on the battlefield , in the Senate , at the bar , in the pulpit , and in commerce . Within the past few years four of its sons have held the office of Mayor of Capetown .

The Lodge , during the Jubilee year , reared a stately temple , rich in approp riate ornamentation , which was dedicated by the late Earl of Carnarvon , and is used as a home by the other Capetown Lodges of the Eng lish Constitution , and , together with the Good Hope Temple of the Dutch Constitution , is reckoned to bo the third or fourth finest edifice of its kind in the world , those at Malta and Philadelphia , U . S ., holding priority .

RECTITUDE LODGE , No . 335 . fl ^ HE installation meeting took place on the 25 th ult ,, at Corsham . There J _ was a good attendance of Brethren , and the meeting wara very pleasant one . Bro . M . St . John Maulo was installed into the chair of K . S . by the retiring W . M . Bro . C . B . Oliver , who received the congratulations of the Brethren on recovery from his long and serious illness .

DOWNSHIRE LODGE , No . 594 . BRO . W . H . C . Trense was installed Master of this Lodge on tho 27 th ult ., at tho Masonic Hall , Hope Street , Liverpool . Bro . J . Bellingham , the retiring Master , presided at tho commencement of the proceedings , and the attendance included about 150 members and Visitors .

Bro . E . L . Latham P . M . efficiently performed the duties of Installing Master . In the course of the after proceedings Bro . Bellingham was presented with a Past Master ' s jewel , together with suitable presents for his two children .

ST . JOHN LODGE , No . 673 . THE annual installation took place on the 2 nd inst ., at the Masonic Hall , Hope Street , Liverpool , when there was an attendance of nearly 100 members and Visitors .

Reports Of Meetings.

The chair was occupied by Bro . W . R . Roberts , and after the transaction of the routine business he efficiently installed Bro . John Morgan as Worshipful Master for the ensuing year . In the course of the proceedings the I . P . M . was presented with a valuable jewel in recognition of excellent services .

BEAUREPER LODGE , No . 787 . fllHE thirty-sixth anniversary of this Lodge was celebrated at the Lion JL Hotel , Belper , on the 27 th ult ., when Bro . Walter W . Windle was installed W . M . by Bro . Maurice Hunter the retiring W . M . There was a good attendance of Visiting Brethren .

The banquet was subsequently served , and the usual toasts were honoured .

ST . KEW LODGE , No . 1222 . rpHE Lodge received an official visit from tho W . M . and Brethren of the JL Royal Sussex Lodge , Bristol , No . 187 , on Thursday , 27 th ult . The Lodge passed a very hearty vote of thanks to Bro . F . W . S . Wicksteed for tho excellent manner in which be entertained the Brethren at tho picnic , as reported in our columns .

After the business supper was provided , and the Bristol Brethren returned by the 10 p . m . train .

MARWOOD LODGE , No . 1244 . ON Monday , lst inst ., the annual festival was celebrated at Rodcar , when Bro . W . Newton Walker was installed Master , tho ceremony being performed by tho Hon . W . T . Orde-Powlett , D . L ., P . G . W . England and Deputy Provincial Grand Master North and East Yorks . There was a good attendance of members and visitors from neighbouring Lodges .

The Officers were afterwards invested for thc year by the W . M ., aftei which the banquet was held at the Coatham Hotel , and the usual Loyal and Masonie toasts were honoured .
