for the third degree , were introduced , and having answered the usual questions , were entrnsted . Tbey were subsequently raised to the sublime degree by Bro . Evans , who performed the ceremony in a masterly manner . Bro . H . Tatton Sykes having been elected at the previous meeting as Worshipful Master for the ensuing year was brought before the Lodge and gave his assent to the nsual qualifica .

tions and charges . A Board of Installed Masters was then constituted , when Bro . Sykes was duly installed as Worshipful If aster by Bro . George King . On the re-admission of the brethren the newly made Master was saluted by the brethren in the three degrees , and then proceeded to invest his Officers : —Bros . W . Hunt S . W ., G . N . Street J . W ., J . Hancock Treasurer , George King P . M .

Secretary , F . W . Jordon S . D ., R . Barrett J . D ., F . D . Norman D . C , G . F . Davis A . D . C , H . J . Cousins and Ravaisou Stewards , Williams acting Tyler . Bro . Tatton Sykes very soon gave proof of hit proficiency in the ritual by initiating into the mysteries and privileges of Freemasonry Messrs . Alfred Walter Woods , George Yeowell , and Franois Heddon . After the ceremony Bro . George King

proceeded to deliver the customary addresses to the Master , Wardens and Brethren , whioh were satisfactorily given . The Treasurer ' s reports were then presented , and passed after some discussion . The visitors offered their hearty good wishes to the W . M ., who then closed the Lodge with prayer and the meeting adjourned . The banquet took place at the Holborn Restaurant , the Venetian Chamber being

reserved for that purpose , and close npon 150 brethren sat down to enjoy the hospitality of the Lodge . The Sovereign and the Grand Officers were duly toasted , after whioh Bro . J . P . Evans I . P . M ., in felicitous terms , gave the health of the Worshipfnl Master , and expressed his opinion that judging by the manner in whioh he had performed his duty that evening , he would have a brilliant and happy

year of oflice . The W . M ., who on rising to respond was received with acclamation , thanked the brethren for electing him to the proud position of Master of that ancient and excellent Lodge . It was only eight years ago that evening since he was initiated into Freemasonry , but he . trusted he would be enabled to transact the business of the chair in such a manner that he would retain the esteem

and affection of every member of the Lodge . The W . M . in submitting the toast of the Immediate Past Master , referred to tbe admirable way in which theLodge had been conducted daring the past year , in token of which the brethren delegated to him the pleasant duty of presenting Bro . Evans with the Lodge jewel , whicb he then pinned to his breast amid the applause of the company .

Bro . Evans , who spoke with much emotion , said he had now his most difficult task to perform , whioh was to express in suitable terms his intense gratitude for the kindness ever evinced by the brethren towards him , especially during his terra of Mastership . The jewel would lose its lustre were he not assured of the affectionate esteem of the brethren , who he trusted were satisfied with all he had

accomplished . While life lasted he should never forget their kindness , and would put in an appearance as often as possible at the Lodge to receive from them a renewal of their cordiality . Brother Sykes then proposed the Initiates , and urged them to fulfil the obligations they had entered into from the bottom of their hearts . He trusted they would grow up and be shining

lights in Freemasonry , and become worthy of the illustrious Lodge of whioh they had been made members , so that when they arrived at the position of Master they would be able to say they had honestly earned their reward . Bro . Alfred W . Woods , in responding to tho toast , tendered his hearty thanks to the brethren for their kind reception , as he felt highly prond to belong to such an old and honour .

He could not say too much in their praise , as they were always at their posts

¦ nd were ready to help in time of need . The compliment was acknowledged by the four senior Past Masters , viz ., Bros . W . O . Benzley , R . D . Hilton , H . R . Cope and George Evans . After the Officers of the Lodge had been hononred , the interesting proceedings were brought to a close with the Tyler's toast , and the company separated at a late hour .

LODGE OF JOPPA , No . 188 . THE annual installation festival of this ancient Lodge , which was constituted in April 1789 , was held last Monday , at the Free , masons' Hall , Great Queen Street-, W . C , when a distinguished company assembled to take part in the interesting ceremony . Tho Worshipfnl Master , Bro . The Lodge having been duly opened and the minutes of the last meeting confirmed , the Treasurer presented the annual balance sheet and the report of the Lodge Benevolent Fund , both of whioh were accepted by the brethren . The ballot was then taken , and it proved unanimous in favour of

Messrs . Henry Emanuel , George Heilbuth , and Edward Emanuel , who were introduced and initiated into the mysteries of Freemasonry by the W . M . Tbe Lodge was then opened in the second degree , when the chair was taken by Bro . Harry Lazarus I . P . M . Bro . H . Garrard , who bad been duly elected at the last meeting as W . M . for the coming year , was brought before the Lodge and

signified his assent to the anoient charges and regulations . He was subsequently installed in the chair of K . S . according to anoient custom , and welcomed by the Board of Masters . He was then duly saluted by the brethren in the three degrees . The following brethren were appointed and invested as Officers of the Lodge for the ensuing twelve months : —Bros . Barnett Weigal S . W ;' , M .

Siegeriberg J . W ., J . S . Lyon Treasurer , Lewis Lazarus Secretary , S . J . Roco Chaplain and S . D ., Ernest Davy J . D ., H : S . Onkin I . G ., A . G . Duda * -n Director of Ceremonies , H . Rosenberg and Tho-nas Stewards , Gaskell Tyler . A Pas !; Master's jewel was presented to Bro . Arthur Cohen , which was suitably acknowledged ; and a vote of thanks was accorded to Bro . Harry . Lazarus for the manner in which he

performed the installation ceremony , at short notice . The resolution to be entered on the Lodge minutes . The Lodge was , then closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet room . At the termination of the repast the usual Loyal and Masonio toasts were submitted by the W . M . and received by the brethren , but in consequence of

the late hour , the speeches were made as brief as possible . In proposing the health of the Worshipful Master , the I . P . M . said that all the brethren would appreciate the manner in which Bro . Garrard had performed bis duty that evening , both in the Lodge room and at the banquet table . He was sure they would have a worthy Master in the latest addition to the rulers of the Craft . The W'M .

in reply said , that he owed his present position to the kindness of the brethren , and he would do his best according to hit humble ability to carry out the duties of the chair with credit to the Lodge and satisfaction to himself . Bro . L . Lazarus responded for the Lodge Benevolent Fund , and stated that it was founded some fifty years ago , and its example had been followed by numerous Lodges throughout

the kingdom . The Fund was a boon to Grand Lodgp , because many claimants were assisted by its means who would otherwise have appeared before the Board of Benevolence . At one time they had considerable funds invested , bat at tbe present time they were in low water , having made grants during tbe previous year to the extent of £ 80 , while only - £ 14 had been received . He was very pleased to

say that the brethren had opened their hearts and pockets that evening to the extent of £ 18 , of which the W . M . and the Initiates had contributed a guinea each . Iu complimentary terms tbe W . M . proposed the Initiates , which was suitably acknowledged by Bros . E . Emanuel , G . Heilbuth , and H . Emanuel . Bro . Garrard then gave the Immediate Past Master , who vacates the ohair this evening with

the same feeling of good fellowship as when twelve months ago he was installed . He also coupled with tbe toast the name of Brother Harry Lazarus , who had so readily come forward to perform the installation ceremony , and had assisted their late Master during the past year . Bro . Arthur Cohen , in reply , said that he had done bis best to perform his duties during his year of office , and he trusted ,

from the kind manner in which the toast had been received , that he had given satisfaction to the brethren . Bro . H . Lazarus said that he was always ready to place his services at the disposal of the Lodge , and tbe ready appreciation and good will of the brethren fully repaid him for any trouble he had been put to . Bro . Josephs W . M . of

Israel Lodge , Bro . Casperd P . M . of Samson Lodge , together with Bros . Massey , Myers , Orlton Cooper , and Danoygar responded for the Visitors •and the toasts of the Treasurer and Secretary and Officers brought the pleasant and harmonious proceedings to a ter . ruination at a late hour .

ST . LUKE'S LODGE , No . 225 . FPHE installation and festival of this Lodge was held at the X Masonic Hall , Ipswich , on Wednesday evening , the 14 th ult ,, when Bro . Cook was installed in the chair for the ensuing year . The installation ceremony was excellently performed by Bro . performed the installation ceremony , at short notice . The resolution to be entered on the Lodge minutes . The Lodge was , then closed , and the brethren adjourned to the banquet room . At the termination of the repast the usual Loyal and Masonio toasts were submitted by the W . M . and received by the brethren , but in consequence of

the late hour , the speeches were made as brief as possible . In proposing the health of the Worshipful Master , the I . P . M . said that all the brethren would appreciate the manner in which Bro . Garrard had performed bis duty that evening , both in the Lodge room and at the banquet table . He was sure they would have a worthy Master in the latest addition to the rulers of the Craft . The W'M .

in reply said , that he owed his present position to the kindness of the brethren , and he would do his best according to hit humble ability to carry out the duties of the chair with credit to the Lodge and satisfaction to himself . Bro . L . Lazarus responded for the Lodge Benevolent Fund , and stated that it was founded some fifty years ago , and its example had been followed by numerous Lodges throughout

the kingdom . The Fund was a boon to Grand Lodgp , because many claimants were assisted by its means who would otherwise have appeared before the Board of Benevolence . At one time they had considerable funds invested , bat at tbe present time they were in low water , having made grants during tbe previous year to the extent of £ 80 , while only - £ 14 had been received . He was very pleased to

say that the brethren had opened their hearts and pockets that evening to the extent of £ 18 , of which the W . M . and the Initiates had contributed a guinea each . Iu complimentary terms tbe W . M . proposed the Initiates , which was suitably acknowledged by Bros . E . Emanuel , G . Heilbuth , and H . Emanuel . Bro . Garrard then gave the Immediate Past Master , who vacates the ohair this evening with

the same feeling of good fellowship as when twelve months ago he was installed . He also coupled with tbe toast the name of Brother Harry Lazarus , who had so readily come forward to perform the installation ceremony , and had assisted their late Master during the past year . Bro . Arthur Cohen , in reply , said that he had done bis best to perform his duties during his year of office , and he trusted ,

from the kind manner in which the toast had been received , that he had given satisfaction to the brethren . Bro . H . Lazarus said that he was always ready to place his services at the disposal of the Lodge , and tbe ready appreciation and good will of the brethren fully repaid him for any trouble he had been put to . Bro . Josephs W . M . of

Israel Lodge , Bro . Casperd P . M . of Samson Lodge , together with Bros . Massey , Myers , Orlton Cooper , and Danoygar responded for the Visitors •and the toasts of the Treasurer and Secretary and Officers brought the pleasant and harmonious proceedings to a ter . ruination at a late hour .

ST . LUKE'S LODGE , No . 225 . FPHE installation and festival of this Lodge was held at the X Masonic Hall , Ipswich , on Wednesday evening , the 14 th ult ,, when Bro . Cook was installed in the chair for the ensuing year . The installation ceremony was excellently performed by Bro .
