Suffolk , and the Officers of the Provincial Grand Lodge Present and Past ,

Bros . Wright and Rev . S . Maude responding . Bro . Whitehead , iu proposing the toast of the evening , the Worshipful Master , said be did so with much pleasure and satisfaction , because he wai conscious of the hearty way in whioh it wonld be received . The circle of the Worshipful Master ' s Masonio abilities was too well known to all the brethren to need any particular comment - but he must say ,

in justice to him , that be bad fulfilled the duties of the various chairs through whioh he had passed with credit to himself and every satisfaction to the brethren . He knew no brother in St . Luke's Lodge who deserved the position he had attainad more than Brother Cook , who had worked hard for it . He had not only attended the Lodge most regularly , but had strained every point to attend the

Lodge of Instruction , which he ( the speaker ) could assure them from past experience was the foundation-stone to the position which the Worshipful Master occupied . He trusted that their Worshipful Master would have a successful year of office , and that the Great Architect of the Universe would spare and bless him in good health , BO as to enable him to carry ont the important duties he hacT

undertaken . The Worshipful Master , in responding , observed that to be a member of the honourable Craft was a great honour , but to be installed in that ohair was someting more than he expected . Some six years ago , when he was admitted to their Lodge , he expressed the hope that the brethren would never have cause to regret it ; and he took it that being placed in the chair that night was evidence that they did not regret having received him into their ancient and honourable

fraternity . He assured them that it would be his endeavour to merit his position by work . He hal received tbe utmost kindness from the Past Masters and brethren of the Lodg " , and this be would require more than ever during the ensuing year . The other toasts were the Installing Master , the Immediate Past Maato * , the Visitor ? , the Past Masters of the Lodge , the Officers of t-e Lodge , the Tyler's toast .

HARMONIC LODGE , No . 252 . ON the 3 rd inst ., the annual meeting of this Lodge took place at the Saracen ' s Heal Hotel , Dudley . Bro . E . J . Chambers installed Bro . William Hanson S . W . the Master of the Lodge , iu the presence of a large number of brethren from the Provinces of Worcestershire and Staffordshire , the ceremony being performed in an impressive and able manner . A vote of condolence was , passed with

Benjamin Child was formally installed Worshipful Master of the above Lodge , by Bros . Illingworth and Rushton P . M . ' B . Bro . Child invested the following as his Officers : — Bros . Gledhill S . VITRUVIAN LODGE , No . 338 . GN Monday evening , the 2 nd inst ., the annual meeting and banquet was held at the Royal Hotel , Ross , Hereford . Brother L . U . Wooler , who was installed as W . M . for the ensuing year ,

Tha attendance was extremely large , and the success or the function exceeded all cxpeotations , about 150 being present . The ball was led off by Bro . T . Annison Worshipful Masterand

, Mrs . Annison . The programme of the dances , numbering thirtythree , was most handsomely got up , and reflected much credit on tha taste of the Wor . Master . Daring the intervals songs were given by Bros . Annison , J . Reed , W . Reed , and R . Leach . The music , which waa supplied by Mr , John Bobby ' * band , which included three

gentlemen from Carlisle , accorded the utmost satisfaction . Miss Mattimon supplied tbe refreshments . The M . C . ' s were Bros . Aunison W . M . and J . Reed . The proceedings were of a most enjoyable character , the only drawback being the limited capacity of the room . The arrangements were well carried out , and the Worshipful Master is desirous of tendering his heartiest thanks to all those who in any way rendered him help iu promoting the most suooesafil ball which has ever been held in connection with the Lodge .

SCIENTIFIC LODGE , No . 439 . THE annual meeting of this Lodge , was held iu the Masonio Rooms , at the Fleece Hotel , Bingley , on Wednesday evening , 28 th ult ., when Bro . C H . Haste was installed Worshipful Master . There was a large gathering of brethren , including Bro . Henry Smith Deputy Provincial Grand Master of West Yorkshire . SCARBOROUGH LODGE , No . 1214 . ON Tuesday , the 3 rd inst ., the brethren of this Lodge held the annual Festival of St . John the Evangelist , when the Rev . Bro . H . Evan' , M . A ., Past Provincial Grand Chaplain , Vicar of Catteriok , was installed Worshipful Master for the ensuing year . Tbe installs , tion ceremony was performed in a most able manner by Bro . Blakey , F . G . S ., who was assisted by Bro . Fawcett , the latter giving the

addresses , Bro . James Oldroyd acting as Director of Ceremonies . After the ceremony was completed the Worshipful Master invested tha Officers , as follow : —Bros . A . A . Jabb I . P . After the closing of the Lodge the customary banquet took place , and the usual toasts were proposed and responded to . At the close of the Worshipful Master ' s speech , Bro . Dr . Forshaw recited the sonnet ( whioh appears

on another page ) which was received in a most enthusiastic manner . The toasts were interspersed with recitations and songs by Bros . Gamble , Turner , Dr . Forshaw , and others . A most enjoyable evening was spent . The Scarborough Lodge has every prospect of a most successful year before it , and it is fully expected that before many months have elapsed the brethren will take possession of their old

quarters—the Masonio Lodge— whioh they were reluctantly compelled to relinquish owing to loss of members by death and the removal of many of them into other towns . The Worshipful Master has all tha interests of the Lodge at heart , and aided by a band of zealous brothers the sun of the Lodge bids fair to shine long and brightly .

OLICANA LODGE , No . 1522 . ON Tuesday night , the 3 rd inst ., the members of the above Lodge , at Ilkley , celebrated the festival of St . John the Evangelist , in the presence of a goodly muster of brethren , amongst whom were visitors from Manchester , Leeds , Bradford , Skipton , acd Otley Lodges . Bro . John Illingworth , the W . M . elect , was presented for the benefit of installation by Bro . P . M . Gaunt P . P . G . D ., and

Bro . Dr . Bates P . M ., performed the ceremony , during whioh Bro . C Blagbro sang " Be thou faithful unto death . " The newly . installed Master afterwards invested his Officers , as follow : —Bros . I . G . Critchley I . P . M ., Arthur Holmes S . W ., 0 . E . Brightwen J . W ., W . J . Kaye P . M ., M . An interesting account was given of the Masonio Charities by Brother Whitaker P . M ., and an appeal made for further support from the the brethren . The nsual Masonic toasts were also honoured , an enjoyable evening being paised .

ARNOLD LODGE , No . 1799 . THE ordinary meeting of this Lodge was held at the Marine Hotel , Walton-on-the-Naze , on Tuesday , the 3 rd inst ., but in consequence of the deep snow there were but few brethren present ; in fact , the roads between Walton and Claoton are almost impassable . The W . M . Bro . W . E . Sutton , the S . W . Bro . J . H . Harman , the J . W . Bro . E . Purvis , the S . D . Bro . W . Randall , the Secretary

Bro . Scott , with Bros . Dorling P . M . and Cutter Tyler constitnted the Lodge . The candidate for Fellow Craft made a long journey from Deal to take his second degree , which ceremony was most impressively rendered by the W . M ., who , before the Lodge was closed , informed the brethren that he intended to support Bro . Lord

Brooke the Provincial Grand Master , who was going to take tha ohair at the Boys' Festival . It was also mentioned by the Secretary that the Board of Benevolence had granted the widow of a brother of the Lodge £ 5 . After the Lodge closed , the brethren partook of refreshment , when hearty good wishes for a happy and prosperous , new year waa given around .

THE ordinary meeting of this Lodge was held at the Marine Hotel , Walton-on-the-Naze , on Tuesday , the 3 rd inst ., but in consequence of the deep snow there were but few brethren present ; in fact , the roads between Walton and Claoton are almost impassable . The W . M . Bro . W . E . Sutton , the S . W . Bro . J . H . Harman , the J . W . Bro . E . Purvis , the S . D . Bro . W . Randall , the Secretary

Bro . Scott , with Bros . Dorling P . M . and Cutter Tyler constitnted the Lodge . The candidate for Fellow Craft made a long journey from Deal to take his second degree , which ceremony was most impressively rendered by the W . M ., who , before the Lodge was closed , informed the brethren that he intended to support Bro . Lord

Brooke the Provincial Grand Master , who was going to take tha ohair at the Boys' Festival . It was also mentioned by the Secretary that the Board of Benevolence had granted the widow of a brother of the Lodge £ 5 . After the Lodge closed , the brethren partook of refreshment , when hearty good wishes for a happy and prosperous , new year waa given around .
