who was aft » rwards properly prepared aud duly iuitiated by his brother the W . M . This ceremony was followed by the initiation of Mr . Joseph Rostern , the duty also being undertaken by the W . M . Bro . Walkden P . M . in both instances gave the addresB at the N . E ., Bro . Midgley J . W . presented the working tool ? , whilst Bro . Norton S . W . delivered tho anoient charge , and with such a quintette of good

workers , it may readily be inferred that the ceremonies were well performed . The next business was the eleotion of W . M . for the ensuing year , and the choice fell unanimously npon Bro . Nortcn S . W . Other Officers were elected , and the business of the Lodge was brought to an early close .

At the festive board which followed , the nsual Loyal and Masonic toasts we ' re submitted and accepted , the same being varied by songs from Brop . SymoDS , Norton , Fawjsett , and Roberts . The toast of the newly initiated brethren was proposed by Bro . Thompson P . M . who , after expressing the pleasure he derived from having the duty to perform , pointed out some of the beauties of

Freemasonry , in hia desire to prove that the science waa not an empty eham . Bro . Rostern in response said that upon occasions liko this he supposed he was not expected to deliver a long speech . Heexplained that some time ago the idea had occurred to him to become a member of the Craft , and now that be had done BO he did not regret it . It was

pleasing for him to occupy the position of n brother newly initiated , and to respond 11 a bi & ib so ably and eloquently put before them for aoceptance . He offered thoni his heartfelt thanks for having received him into snch an august ussemblage , hoping at the same time the day wonld never dawn when they wculd regret their action . Bro . Briggs , in a ahort , crisp speech , endorsed the remarks of his

colleague , after which Bro . Wardle P . M . proposed the loast of the visitors , and expro 3 « ed tbe delight he felt in seeing precout that evening soveral Provincial Officers , two of whom were members of tho Concord Lodge , whilst another hailed from Cheshire . Bro . Campbell , in reply , congratulated thorn upon tho possession of two such worthy Provincial Officers ns Bros . Hothereall and

Thompson . With respect to the candidiites for initiation , it had never been his lot to see any who were more thoughtful aud observant than they had been . He waa glad to notice tha presence of so many Past Mastera , an infallible aigu that the work of the Lodgo was in a satisfactory condition—as had been proved that evening . In nonclnsion , be commended Bro . Norton S . W . tbe W . M . elect , and fcincorel y

hoped he would have a good year of office . The W . M . proposed the health of Bro . Mead P . M ., saying that he was very sorry snch a toast was necessary . They knew , perhaps , that Bro . Mead had been an absentee from their meetings through ill health , and it was now a pleasure for him to be enabled to

welcome him back again . No worthier Mason could be found amongst them , one alao who could ever bo relied upon to perform any ceremony when requested to do BO . Bro . Mead riobly deserved Provincial honours , and he hoped ultimately to see him the recipient of some such mark of proficiency . Other toasts followed .

CHARITY LODGE , No . 1551

THERE waa a large gathering of Masons of the Provinces oi Warwickshire , Staffordshire , and Worcestershire , at the Miaonic Hall , New Street , Birmingham , on the 19 th nit ., on the occasion of the installation of Sir James Sawyer as W . M , The ceremony was attended by many Provincial Officers and Maatera and Past Masters of Lodges in tbe Province , as well as brethren below tho chair .

THE annual festival to celebrate the installation of Bro . John Charlton W . M . took placo on Tuesday , the 19 th ult ., at the Turk ' s Head Hotel , Bedlington . Brown , and others , aisisted by the members of the Whitstable String Band .

rjlHE installation was held at the Blue Boar Hotel , Maldon , on tho 1 25 th ult ., when Bro . George Brown S . W . was installed , the ceremony being porformed by Bros . George Davis and Robert Smith P . M . ' a of the Lodge . Tho Worshipful Muster appointed and invested hia Officers and the Lodge waa closod . Subsequently the brethren and visitors , to tbe number of 42 , sat down t ) an excellent banquet , served by the host iss , Mrs . E . S . Hickford . U PWARDS of six years ago the Dorothy Vernon Lodgo was oonsecrated , the ceremony being performed by the Doputy Provincial Grand Master of Derbyshire Bro . U . C . Okeover , assisted by the Officers of Provincial Grand Lodge . Nono who were thero will ever forget the sight ; or if they felt inclined to be obliviou 3 tho proceedinga of Tuesday , tho 5 th ult . would bring back to mind and

deepen the remembrance of what was certainly a red-letter day in Bakewell . In 1888 the installation festival was held at Uaddon Hall , bnt since then it has taken placo at Bnkewell . It was felt , however , by the brethren of the Lodge that absence from Huddon removed the ono rnBthsction which made Dorothy 'Yomon unique

among Derbyshire Lodges ; aud , after due consideration , it was resolved to revert to the old working . Needle 88 to say the day was a great success . The Lodge was formed in the drawing room , whioh was filled with brethren from all part ? of the Province . Bro . Stanley Ormo waa installed by the retiring Master , Dr . Fentem , to whom a Past Master ' s jewel was presented .

Hamnett were chosen as auditors , anil a Tyler WMS appointed . There was a proposition for a joining member , viz , Bro . T . M . Ferneiey , Professorof Musio ( Chorlton LorIg- > , No . 1387 ) , and , as Bro . Ferneiey is well known both in the Misouicand musical world , the announcement of his probable adveiit into the Minnehaha Minstrel Lodge gave

universal satisfaction . The other business was Boon dispoied of , the Lodge being closed at an early hour . Tea was next partaken of , and this waa succeeded by the nanal social entertainment . A capital programme had been provided , and a delightful evening was ppee . t in singing and reciting .
