HEREFORDSHIRE CHARITY .

THE report of the 22 nd annual meeting ot the Heretordshire Masonic Charity Association has just been issued . Since its formation in 1878 it has remitted £ 1 , 092 to the Masonic Institutions . The Committee for the ensuing year was appointed as follows : —President , Bro . H . H . Parry ; Vice-President , Bro . W . Margrett ; Treasurer , Bro . H . C .

Beddoes ; Secretary , Bro . W . W . Robinson ; for the Palladian Lodge , Bro . E . C . Gurney ; for Vitruvian Lodge , Bro . T . Matthews ; for Eastnor Lodge , Bro . W . Hampton ; for the Royal Edward Lodge , Bro . E . Bellon ; for the Arrow Lodge , Bro . A . Parker ; Auditors Bros . T . Smith and T . Blenkhorn .

A ballot was taken and resulted in the election of the following as Life Subscribers to the Masonic Institutions , viz .: Bros . Lord Glanusk Prov . G . M ., H . H . Parry W . M ., Henry Gosling P . M ., T . Godwin Chance P . M ., and the Arrow Lodge . It is gratifying that this Association , one of the earliest of its kind , continues to make such satisfactory progress .

R. M.I. Boys.

R . M . I . BOYS .

AT the May examinations in connection with the Science and Art Department of South Kensington the pupils of the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys gained eighty-two certificates . The gratifying announcement is now made that one of the boys , C . W . Bewsher , has been awarded a Queen ' s Prize for Freehand Drawing . This distinction is rarely gained , and shows a high standard of excellence .

The Duke of Connaught will lay the foundation-stone of the new Boys Schools at Bushey next May . It is lamentable that , as one of our Masonic contemporaries puts it , such " wastefull y folly" should be indulged in . Now that education is practically free , these boys could very well be

educated at home and under the watchful care of local Brethren . Under existing conditions they are given an education far above their required condition , whereas under local auspices there would be no denials and no need for election on the foundation . The funds properly applied are more than ample . It appears , however , to be too late to enter any protest . — "Manchester Herald " Masonic Column

The long vacation of Freemasonry in London came to an end on Saturday , and the opening of the working season took place to-day . The recess for Freemasons occupies a greater period than the long vacation known to the law , as it extends over four months , commencing with the last

week in May , while the legal long vacation is of only ten weeks duration . The coming Masonic season has all the appearance of being successful and of producing marked results . The Quarterly Courts and the elections of the Girls and Boys Schools occupy places in the second week of the

month , and at these meetings there will be great activity , as high figures will have to be polled for the candidates , only half the number of whom can be taken into the respective Institutions . The Brethren are looking forward with a great amount of interest to the statement that will be submitted to

them on Friday week , as to the progress which has been made with the new Schools of the Boys Institution at Bushey , the first stone of which is to be laid next May by the Duke of Connaught . Many supporters of the School have shown a little impatience with respect to the work , and have been

rather forgetful of the magnitude of an undertaking the ultimate object of which is to provide for 500 boys . Among other Masonic work for the new season in London is the consecration of some more Lodges , Warrants for which have already been granted . —" Birmingham Daily Post , " 3 rd October .
