THE BOYS SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP .
T PlHE reception accorded by Grand Lodge , on Wednesday , _ I _ to the proposition of Bro . Sir John Monckton , when he moved that the sum of two hundred guineas be given from the funds of Grand Lodge towards the proposed establishment
and permanent endowment of a Scholarship in connection with the Eoyal Masonic Institution for Boys , was of a most gratifying character , and should go far towards removing any opposition that might have existed in connection with the scheme , although ,
so far as we have heard , there has been nought but unanimity and agreement displayed in association with the proposal , which we are pleased to learn is being warmly supported by influential Brethren throughout the country .
We have just received from the Honorary Secretary of the Fund a second list of promised donations , which , though somewhat less important than the handsome " First list" given in our issue of the 23 rd ult ., is equally satisfactory , as it displays
warm sympathy on the part of Brethren outside the circle from which the proposal actually emanated , and , moreover , adds upwards of £ 130 to the amount subscribed , which , with the £ 210 voted by Grand Lodge on Wednesday , may now be set down as
£ 600 , or close on half the amount required for the one Scholarship proposed . The second list of promised donations contains two " annual subscriptions , " which amounts , it is hardly necessary
to say , are most valuable acquisitions in connection with such a work as is proposed , for although it may not be possible to found a second Scholarship from such gifts , it will always be
open to the Committee to make a grant from such a source to another and perhaps equally deserving ex-pupil of the Institution .

He said : —Most Worshipful Grand Master in the chair , You grant me a privilege which , as it were , ties my tongue , for so poor a straggler in the ranks as myself could not dare to extol
our august leader . But in my just humility I am not blind to the Brotherhood in Freemasonry which permits me the distinguished honour in Grand Lodge of nominating our ilustrious and Most Worshipful Grand Master H . R . H . the Prince
of Wales to again fill that exalted position . I can only venture to add , in the Masonic words of Shakespeare , " His worth is warrant for his welcome hither , " for it may be truly said of us that our humble duty towards the Prince is only equalled by our loyal affection for the Brother .

name was submitted to Grand Lodge , Brother Alderman W . Vaughan Morgan , who had contemplated making another attempt to win the honour , having intimated to his supporters
his wish to retire on this occasion , in order to avoid a contest . Brother Robert Grey was re-appointed and invested as President of the Board of Benevolence , and the election of other officials was proceeded with .
The rank of Past Grand Warden was conferred on Lord Brassey , Governor of South Australia ; and on Sir Gerard Smith Governor of West Australia ; while Bro . H . R . Cooper Smith was appointed Assistant Secretary for German Correspondence , and , being presented , was duly invested .
The Report of the Board of Benevolence was adopted , as also were the first two suggestions in the Report of the Board of General Purposes . Paragraph 3 led to some amount of discussion , and on the suggestion of the Acting Grand Master was
referred back to the Board . Nos . 4 and 5 were also considered at some length , an amendment being proposed to the former by Bro . Richard Eve P . G . Treasurer , but ultimately these two paragraphs were carried in accordance with the original proposition .
The Report ; of the Colonial Board was received , Lodge No . 1886 being erased . The Grand Registrar explained the points of the appeal of Bro . George Thompson , proposed that it be dismissed , and that the decision of the District Grand Master of Singapore be upheld , a course which Grand Lodge agreed to .
Bro . Lamonby ' s Notice of Motion fell through , Brother E . Letchworth G . Sec . stating that the proposer was not present . The proposal to grant two hundred guineas towards the Boys School Scholarship Fund was regularly brought forward by
Bro . Sir John B . Monckton , who explained that the endowment of the Scholarship would cost £ 1 , 400 , and , further , that it would be wholly distinct from the funds of the Institution . The motion was seconded by Bro . Richard Eve and carried , thus completing the business of the meeting .

GRAND LODGE OF SCOTLAND .
THE annual meeting of this Grand Lodge was held at the Freemasons' Hall , Edinburgh on Monday , 2 nd inst ., when Sir Charles Dalryrnple of Newhailes , M . P ., was re-installed as Grand Master , in the presence of a large gathering of Masons .
After the installation the Brethren adjourned to the Great Hall for the celebration of the festival of St . Andrew , and were there joined by other members of Graud Lodge , and by deputations from daughter Lodges .
In proposing the toast of the Prince and Princess of Wales and other members of the Royal Family , the Grand Master said a hope was entertained that the presence of the Princo of Wales
might be secured for more than one important event in Scotland . He did not know on what ground it was entertained , but if it should prove to be correct Grand Lodge might be counted upon to co-operate most heartily in every way .
The Hon . Thomas Cochrane , M . P ., gave the Grand Master Mason of Scotland and the Grand Lodge , and , in doing so , said that Sir Charles ' s election for the third year showed that he was esteemed as a true friend and Brother . The Grand Master , in responding for the toast , said he had
met with nothing but kindness during the two years he had held office , and that had encouraged him to remain another year . Ho wished to say , in the presence of their Grand Secretary , who was a modest man , that he relied very much upon his advice and lengthened experience , which never failed him , and which were
always at his disposal . The entrants during the past year numbered 5 , 253 , as compared with 5 , 030 in the previous year . The income had been £ 5 , 492 , as compared with £ 5 , 104 , while the grants from the Benevolent Fund amounted to £ 670 , and the annuities paid to 100 annuitants to £ 1 , 050 .
