positiou in the Craft , but ho hoped it would be his privilege to see him still further advanced in Freemasonry . Bro . Philbrick , who was ljudly applauded when rising to respond , said ho greatly prided himself ou the Freemasons of Essex , who entered thoroughly

into their duties , and were always to tho fore whenever there was good work to be done . He alluded to tbo fact that when he was first in office in the Province thero were only eighteen Lodges , but now there were over forty . The Chapters had also increased from three , and shortly , on the 9 th December , there would bo a baker's dozen .

In proposing prosperity to the Walthamstow Lodge of Instruction and the Walthamstow Benevolent Association , the President said that when he was initiated the ceremonies could not be said to have been worked with that degree of solemnity and perfection that now ohtaiued . were now conducted with reverence and due attention to details . The Lodge of Instruction had achieved a splendid record during the five years it had been established , and its 250 members would doubtless prove their ability when they were called upon to take office . Ho considered they had done excellent work for the great Masonic Charities , which should stimulate them to still further endeavours iu that grand cause .

The toast was suitably responded to by Bro . M .
