PROVINCIAL ,
ST . JOHN LODGE , No . 70 . AT the regular meeting of this , the senior Lodge of the Three Towns ( Plymouth , Stonehouse , and Devonport ) , held at the Freemasons ' Hall , Plymouth , on Tuesday , 3 rd inst ., Bro . Mark Jacobs was unanimously elected W . M . for tho ensuing year . During the long period Bro . Jacobs has been connected with the Lodgo he has deservedly made many friends , and the members look forward with pleasant anticipations to a very happy year under his genial ruling .
On the same occasion the Officers of the Lodge presented the W . M . with an enlarged photo ( by Bro . Moss Wright 1247 ) of their body , in order to express their appreciation of the manner in which he had conducted the official business of the year , more especially that connected with the Officers . Bro . Gover P . M . P . P . G . Sec . made the presentation , and particularly enlarged upon the entire absence of the slightest want of unanimity .
The W . M . subsequently acknowledged the gift , and stated the mark of fraternal affection on the part of his Officers was such that he could never fail to hold it in mind as amongst the happiest events in th » happiest year of his Masonic existence .
LODGE OF INTEGRITY , No . 163 . THE meeting of this Lodge , held at the Freemasons' Hall , Manchester , on Wednesday , the 27 th ult ., was so well attended that want of space compels us reluctantly to leave out the greater portion of names . In anticipation of four ceremonies , the Brethren had been summoned for five o'clock , and business oommenced shortly after that hour . The minutes
having been submitted and confirmed , Brothers Arthur Dudley Pixton , Jos . Crookes Grime , and George Russell Jury were , after due examination as to proficiency , passed to the degree of F . C , tho first and last ceremony being performed by Bro . R . Alf . Hepworth W . M ., and the other by Brother D . D . Macphorson P . M .
We here wish to correct a slight error which , by a slip of the pen , we fell into in our report of this Lodge published on the 16 th ult . We then stated that the Antient Charge was delivered by the S . W ., whereas , in fact , it was most admirably rendered by Bro . A . A . Owles J . W . The ceremonies over , an adjournment took place to tho banqueting hall , where the remainder of the evening was spent in speeches , singing , & c , the contributories to the latter being Brothers A . A . Owles J . W ., Ben Williams
P . M ., Edward Roberts P . M . 1459 ( FBEEMASON ' S CHRONICLE ) , J . G . Mead , William Morton , Robert Race , R . W . Nuttall , and George Garlick . Brother J . Wildgoose P . M . P . P . G . D . proposed the health of the Visitors , who responded , most of them reverting to the fact that the ceremonial work had been done in a very efficient manner ; Bro . R . Simister P . M . receiving especial praise for the way in which be had described the Working Tools of the degree .
The toast of the newly-passed Brethren was given by the W . M ., the former making very brief responses . Brother J . M . Sinclair P . M . P . P . J . G . D . Treasurer proposed the health of the W . M ., recounting his own long connection with the Lodge . The
speaker said that he had seen many W . Ms , fill the chair of K . S ., but not one of them had done their work more quietly , unostentatiously , and better than Brother Hepworth . He spoke of the approaching advent of a new Master , at tho same time wishing their present W . M . every success , happiness and prosperity .
Brother Hepworth replied , saying he thanked Brother Sinclair for bis very kind remarks , and the Brethren for having accepted them in so hearty a manner . He was afraid that he did not deserve half of what had been said about him , and if the Past Masters continued to be so flattering towards him , he should get too much edge upon himself . He would , however , try to walk with deep humility and do his duty when called upon . He explained
that Bro . J . H . ' Studd I . G . was absent through illness . In conclusion he thanked Brother J . M . H . Blarney I . P . M . for taking a ceremony at their last meeting , and Brother Macpherson for his work that night , as also the other Past Masters who had helped at various times . He gave a kindly greeting from Brother Warburton P . M ., who had forwarded a very thoughtful
suggestion with reference to the children in the Masonic Homes for Boys and Girls , and other kindred places . Thi 3 was that a collection should be made amongst the members , with the object of supplying the youngsters with Christmas presents , so that they might be reminded of their father ' s connection with the Lodge of Integrity . The Brethren entered heartily into the scheme , and a substantial sum was the result .
Brother S . Gaskill S . W ., proposed the health of the Past Masters , and mentioned incidentally that Brother Blarney had been appointed Auditor to Provincial Grand Lodge . He sincerely hoped that this would be a prelude to further honours , to a very estimable and deserving Brother .
In reply , Brother Blarney reverted to the excellence of the ceremonies as performed tbat night , stating that it was a fair sample of what their Past Masters could do , and were willing to do whenever called upon . With them he should not be surprised if it became a matter of rivalry in tho desire to become useful .
Brother Simister proposed the health of the Officers , and alluded to tho fact that they paid every possible attention to the comforts of the Visitors , and did not neglect their duty towards the musical Brethren , being on all occasions a labour of love for them to minister to the wants of others . Some of the most prominent Brethren , whom we have not already
named , and who were present at the Lodge and festive board , were Brothers John E . Williams P . M . Prov . G . A . D . C , John Studd P . M . P . P . G . D . O ., T . H Scholfield P . M ., William Siddeley P . M .. R . L . McMillan P . M ., Wm . Waddell P . M ., F . Walmsley Sec , John Allen S . D ., and H . R . Yates J . D . Visitors : Thos . Bushell W . M . 317 , J . Bullivant I . P . M . 191 , C . A . Schunck J . W . 999 , Oswald Dearden S . D . 2482 and others .
