W . was installed as Worshipful Master for the ensuing year by Bro . Holmes P . M . P . P . G . P . After the ceremony a Past Master ' s jewel was presented to Bro . Bullock , on his retirement from the chair .

INDEFATIGABLE LODGE , No . 237 . THE annual meeting was held on Monday , 13 th ult ., at Swansea , when there was a large attendance . Brother H . J . Thomas W . M . installed Bro . J . Lindley Smith , and he in turn appointed the Officers for the year .

ROYAL UNION LODGE , No . 246 . THE installation was held at the Masonic Hall , Cheltenham , on Wednesday , 15 th ult ., when Bro . 0 . Williams was installed for the

ensuing year by the D . Prov . G . M . of Gloucestershire Brother R . V . Vassar-Smith P . G . D ., assisted by Past Masters of the Lodge . There was a very large attendance .

UNION LODGE , No . 268 . AT the Queen ' s Arms Hotel , Ashton-under-Lyne , on Thursday , 16 th ult ., the Brethren celebrated the anniversary of St . John the Evangelist , when Bro . Thomas Dunks S . W . was installed W . M . by Bro . W . H . Newton

assisted , by Bros . Moss , Hulley , and Fitton , after which the Brethren assembled at the festive board , when the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were given and responded to .

ROYAL LODGE OF FAITH AND FRIENDSHIP , No . 270 . THE annual installation was held at the Berkeley Arms Hotel , Berkeley , on Tuesday , 28 th ult ., when Bro . Jesse Owner S . W . was installed as W . M . by Bro . R . V . Vassar-Smith D . P . G . M .

HARMONY LODGE , No . 272 . THE Brethren celebrated the festival of St . John on Tuesday , 14 th ult ., Bro . W . G . B . Dickenson being installed Worshipful Master for the year by Bro . J . H . Tasker P . M .

ST . JOHN LODGE , No . 328 . THE annual installation of W . M . was held at the Masonic Hall , Torquay , on Monday evening , 3 rd inst ., when Bro . George Henry Halls was duly installed into the chair of K . S . by a Board of twenty Installed Masters . After the Board had been closed , the W . M . appointed and invested his Officers for the ensuing > oar .

About fifty of tbe Brethren subsequently dined at the Commercial Hotel , where a recherche banquet had been provided ; the W . M . presided , and the usual loyal and Masonic toasts were duly received . During the evening the collection for the Provincial Charities realised

four guineas . A very pleasant and enjoyable evening , interspersed with songs , brought the business of the meeting to a close by singing " God save the Queen . " Bro . F . J . W . Crowe P . Prov . G . O . the Lodge Organist presided at the Piano .

PHCENIX LODGE OF HONOUR AND PRUDENCE , No . 331 . THE annnal Festival was held at Truro , on Monday , 20 th ult ., when Bro , Franklin J . Mountford S . W . P . P . G . O . was installed W . M .

ROYAL SUSSEX LODGE , No . 353 . THE seventy-eighth annual festival and installation meeting of this Lodge , the second in age and one of the most important Lodges in the Province of Derbyshire , was held in the Masonic Hall , Burton , on Monday , the 13 th ult ., and was well attended by distinguished Brethren from Derbyshire and the adjoining Provinces .

The Lodge was opened by Bro . G . A . Capes W . M ., and Bro . W . H . Salter was installed as Worshipful Master for tho ensuing year , the ceremony being ably performed by Bro . A . Fox P . M . P . P . J . G . D . D . C

ELLESMERE LODGE , No . 758 . ON Thursday , 16 th ult ., after the ordinary business had been transacted , an interesting presentation was made . Bro . A . Salkeld W . M . presided , and there was a large attendance , a good contingent of visiting Brethren from Frodsham , Liverpool , Warrington , Northwich , Cornwall , and Stoke-on-Trent being present .

The W . M ., on behalf of the members , asked Bro . T . Annett P . P . G . T . P . M . Secretary to accept a very handsome dinner and tea service for Mrs . Annett , and to convey to her the hearty thanks and best wishes of the

Brethren of the Lodge , and the hope that they would be spared many years to use the articles . He spoke of tbe services of Bro . and Mrs . Annett , who for nine years had laboured assiduously in the interests and well-being of the Lodge .

PARRETT AND AXE LODGE , No . 814 . AT the meeting on Tuesday , 28 th ult ., at Crewkerne , Bro . W . W . Webber S . W . was unanimously elected W . M . for the ensuing year . Bro . Parry was re-elected Treasurer , and Bro . Lacey Tyler . Bro . Tompsett P . G . S . W . was in the chair .

LEWIS LODGE , No . 872 . ON Monday , 20 th ult ., there was an exceptionally large gathering at the Freemasons' Hall , Duke Street , Whitehaven , to witness the ceremony of installation of Brother Clark , nearly every Lodge in the Province being represented .

Some formal business was transacted , under the direction of Bro . Joseph Matthews W . M . Prov . G . A . P ., after which Brother Clark was presented and installed . Bro . Clark , acknowledging the compliment paid him that day , remarked

that he was glad to know his choice of Officers had given satisfaction , and he believed at the end of his term of office it would be found that the Lodge had never had a better staff of Officers than those just appointed . He believed them all to be good Masons . A good Mason did not mean a Brother wbo

could roll off the ritual like a phonograph , but one whose handshake had an electrifying shock of goodfellowship that drew you towards him , and one to whom you wanted to confide your sorrows , and with whom you wanted to

share your ] oys . He trusted this ideal of the Order would , during his year of office , as it had in the past , be the standard every member would set before himself .

ST . JOHN LODGE , No . 1039 . THERE was a large and representative gathering in the Lodge Room at the George Hotel , Lichfield , on Wednesday . 22 nd ult ., on the occasion of the installation of Bro . W . A . Wood as Worshipful Master .

The installation ceremony was most impressively performed by Bro . G . Ashmall , who delivered the charges to the W . M . in the usual manner , those to the Wardens and Brethren being given by Bro . G . Haynes .

ST . JOHN LODGE , No . 1343 . AN emergency meeting was held at the Masonic Hall , at Grays , Essex , on tho 29 th ult ., when a good amount of Masonic work was performed . The W . M . Bro . Charles Westwood Grand Steward of the Province presided , and was assisted by his Officers , and supported by the following
