s irvices , and expressed a fear that the JL ' WCI was but a very slight reward for all that ho had done on their behalf . Bro . Jew , in acknowledging the gift , assured the brethren that if he had done anything to assist them it had been done willingly . and heartily , because he took a deep interest in the work , and felt that he was called upou to do ali in his power to uphold the true principles of Freemasonry in all its branches . Clark and Davey were passed to tho 2 ud degree , Bro . Smith was raised to tho 3 rd degreo , and Mr . J . Eiebold was duly initiated . Three propositions wero given for initiation , after which the Lodge was closed , and the brethren adjourned to slight refreshment . The

W . M . proposed the usual loyal and Masonic toasts . Bro . E . P . Albert A . G . P . returned thanks for tho Grand Officers . Bro . L . Alexander . P . M ., as President , replied to the toast of the Benevolent Fund , and tho now initiate , Bro . Eiebold , returned thanks for his health , and gave a guinea to the Benevolent Fund . Confidence Lodge of Instruction , No . 193 . — This Lodge held its usual weekly meeting- on Wednesday , the 5 th instant , at tho Masons' Hall , Masons' Avenue , Baiinghall-streefc , City , E . C . E . Gottheil , Preceptor . Business—Lodga opened , and minntes read and confirmed . The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Steers being the candidate . Bro . Corner , who took thechair on this occasion for tho first time , performed his duties in a very able and impressive manner , and received the congratulations of all present .

Bro . Gottheil worked the 1 st and 2 nd sections of the lecture . Bros . A . H . Brown , Steers , and Turner were elected joining members . Bro . Turner was appointed W . M . for next meeting . A vote of thanks was unanimously given to Bro . Corner for his efficient conduct in tho chair . Bros . Defries , Turquand , and Be sh were appointed auditors .

, and an application was mado < -n behalf of the Cl yde Lodge , 40 S , to have a candidate initiated . This was readily granted , aud the Master carefully initiated the two gnntlemen . II 3 then opened the Lodge iu the Fellow Craft degree , and passed one brother . Thereafter Bro . MeXair , on the Lodga being raised , conferred the sublime degree on two brethren .
