M ., and having pioved their

efficiency , were entrusted by him with a test of merit , after whioh they retired for preparation . Bro . Melling P . M . then oponed the Lodge in the third degree , and Bros . Gosling and Walker were duly raised by him in a manner whioh fully sustained the repntation he has gained for careful aud consistent ceremonial , whioh he renders especially attractive by an artifice of diotion peculiar to himself .

Praise must also be given to the principal Officers who rendered him excellent service . Bro . Hoyland afterwards introduced the subject of Charity , and mado an important proposition . Having a consentient audience , his proposal was accepted unanimously , and tho Ardwick Lodge is now in a better position than heretofore to exercise this trnly Masonio characteristic . The W . M . having assumed the

principal chair , now presented to Bro . Melling a magnificent 18 carat gold Secretary ' s jewel , upon which was inscribed tho following legend : —¦ " Presented to Bro . J . W . Melling P . M ., by the brethren of the Ardwick Lodge , 2185 , as a mark of appreciation for valuable services rendered as Hon . Secretary , June 12 th 1893 . " The W . M . said that the jewel whioh he had the pleasure of presenting to Bro . Melling

was a very small tribute indeed . On behalf of the Lodge , he must say that the services whioh the recipient of the gift had generously and willingly rendered to the members , bad placed them uuder an obligation which it would bo impossible for them ever to repay . Bro . Melling , in tho course of a very eloquent reply , said that he accepted tho gift , not on account of its iutrinsio valup , but as an

evidence of tho esteem and regard which tho members entertained for him . In the fullnes 3 of their hearts thoy had singled him out for distinction , and he should ever cratefnlly remember the fact . He sincerely hoped that any efforts which he might make would tend to place the Lo . ige in a financial position , and maintain its rrsjtctub lity . At the present moment it was a pleasing thing to say that thoy woro

indeed financially sound , nnd he hud sufficient confidence in the Officers who wore on their wuy to King Solomon ' s chiir , io feel tint they would do their best . Bio . Walker introduced the narno of Mr . Johu EJward Chapman , of Ardwick , and Bro . Kindtar that of Mr . Katz , Piccadilly , Manchester , as gentlemen who were desirous of becoming members of the Lodge . It is probable , therefor . * , that

they « ill be balloted for at the first meeting after tho recess , viz ., 11 th September . At tho festive board which followed , Bro . Hoyland proposed the health of the nowly-riised brethren , saying that they looked very comfortable after the operation . Bros . Gosling aud Walker responded . Bro . Djdd P . M . proposed tho tcist of the Visitors , extending to them a heartv welcome . Bro . Whitwam

replied oa their behalf , stnting that he had never seen ceremonies better done than those which hud been performed that evening by Bro . Melling . Bro . Melling then proposed tho toast of the promoters of the Ardwick Lodge , making especial mention of tho narno of Bro . Hoylaud who had JUSG obtained Proviucial recognition . Tho latter

in response said that if ho did not re illy deserve the honour whioh had been conferred upon him ; he would at least try to do so . HJ felt truly proud that as their representa'ive ho was a member of the Provincial Grand Lodge of East Lancashire . Other toasts followed , a very pleasant evening being spent .

and Davison . After the minutes of the last meeting had been read and confirmed , tho ballot was taken for Bro . Indcr , of the Finsbury Park Lodge , which proving nnanimons , he was exalted to Royal Arch Masonry by Companion Bailey M . E . Z . in the most perfect , earnest , aud impressive manner . This Chapter has for many years retained

a very high reputation for its work , and the Officers for the present year by their energy and attention have much to bo pleased with . The election of Officers next took plane , and resulted as follows : —

Having a consentient audience , his proposal was accepted unanimously , and tho Ardwick Lodge is now in a better position than heretofore to exercise this trnly Masonio characteristic . The W . M . having assumed the

principal chair , now presented to Bro . Melling a magnificent 18 carat gold Secretary ' s jewel , upon which was inscribed tho following legend : —¦ " Presented to Bro . J . W . Melling P . M ., by the brethren of the Ardwick Lodge , 2185 , as a mark of appreciation for valuable services rendered as Hon . Secretary , June 12 th 1893 . " The W . M . said that the jewel whioh he had the pleasure of presenting to Bro . Melling

was a very small tribute indeed . On behalf of the Lodge , he must say that the services whioh the recipient of the gift had generously and willingly rendered to the members , bad placed them uuder an obligation which it would bo impossible for them ever to repay . Bro . Melling , in tho course of a very eloquent reply , said that he accepted tho gift , not on account of its iutrinsio valup , but as an

evidence of tho esteem and regard which tho members entertained for him . In the fullnes 3 of their hearts thoy had singled him out for distinction , and he should ever cratefnlly remember the fact . He sincerely hoped that any efforts which he might make would tend to place the Lo . ige in a financial position , and maintain its rrsjtctub lity . At the present moment it was a pleasing thing to say that thoy woro

indeed financially sound , nnd he hud sufficient confidence in the Officers who wore on their wuy to King Solomon ' s chiir , io feel tint they would do their best . Bio . Walker introduced the narno of Mr . Johu EJward Chapman , of Ardwick , and Bro . Kindtar that of Mr . Katz , Piccadilly , Manchester , as gentlemen who were desirous of becoming members of the Lodge . It is probable , therefor . * , that

they « ill be balloted for at the first meeting after tho recess , viz ., 11 th September . At tho festive board which followed , Bro . Hoyland proposed the health of the nowly-riised brethren , saying that they looked very comfortable after the operation . Bros . Gosling aud Walker responded . Bro . Djdd P . M . proposed tho tcist of the Visitors , extending to them a heartv welcome . Bro . Whitwam

replied oa their behalf , stnting that he had never seen ceremonies better done than those which hud been performed that evening by Bro . Melling . Bro . Melling then proposed tho toast of the promoters of the Ardwick Lodge , making especial mention of tho narno of Bro . Hoylaud who had JUSG obtained Proviucial recognition . Tho latter

in response said that if ho did not re illy deserve the honour whioh had been conferred upon him ; he would at least try to do so . HJ felt truly proud that as their representa'ive ho was a member of the Provincial Grand Lodge of East Lancashire . Other toasts followed , a very pleasant evening being spent .

and Davison . After the minutes of the last meeting had been read and confirmed , tho ballot was taken for Bro . Indcr , of the Finsbury Park Lodge , which proving nnanimons , he was exalted to Royal Arch Masonry by Companion Bailey M . E . Z . in the most perfect , earnest , aud impressive manner . This Chapter has for many years retained

a very high reputation for its work , and the Officers for the present year by their energy and attention have much to bo pleased with . The election of Officers next took plane , and resulted as follows : —
