He answered the questions to the satisfaction of the Worshipful Master and was entrusted . The Lodge was opened in thle second degree , and he was passed a Fellow Craft .
The Lodge was resumed to the first degree , and two gentlemen were proposed as candidates for' initiation at the next meeting . Hearty good wishes were tendered , and the W . M . proceeded to close his Lodge , whereupon the Brethren adjourned to the banquet room , where an excellent ancl most enjoyable repast was served by the hostess Mrs . Venables .
At its conclusion the usual Loyal toasts were honoured , after which Bro . Henry Potter I . P . M . proposed the health of the W . M . — the chief of the Rose Lodge . It was quite unnecessary , he felt , for him to point out all the good qualities of their Worshipful Master . No fancy words were needed , as they had known him for some time , and had recognised the excellence of his working . The
ceremony he had performed that night had been clone to perfection , and had given further proof of his qualifications for his position . The toast was heartily honoured . The W . M . replied , thanking Bro . Potter for his kind remarks . The Immediate rast Master had offered him a great temptation to make a long speech , but he felt the little work he had had to
perform that day was hardly worth noticing . He was glad , however , it had given satisfaction . He had specially to thank the I . P . M . for the most excellent programme he had provided for their enjoyment that evening . He felt convinced he would receive every attention and consideration from that Brother as well as the other Past Masters and Brethren generally , and in conclusion most sincerely thanked all for the cordial manner in which the
toast had been received . The I . P . M . now , by desire of the W . M ., had very much pleasure in proposing the toast of the visitors , enumerating the different guests who were present . On behalf of the W . M . and Brethren of the Rose Lodge he tendered them a most hearty welcome , hoped all had enjoyed their visit , ancl that they would have the pleasure of seeing them again on some future occasion .
Bro . J . Crowe replied , thanking the members for their very kind reception . It had been a pleasure to him to witness the excellent working of the W . that if any of them could pay a visit to his Lodge on the little Island of Ceylon he could promise them a most hearty welcome from the Masonic Brethren there . Bro . Wilkinson P . M . returned thanks for having been coupled with , the toast . He regretted not having been able to be present at the working of the Lodge , but was so well acquainted , with the capabilities of the W . M . that he could appreciate £ he encomiums passed upon him .
Bro . Walford followed , expressing his delight at being present . The working , if little of quantity , had been good in quality . Bro . Hodgson followed , ancl in a humorous speech acknowledged his indebtedness to the W . M . and Brethren for their kind reception . He particularly complimented the two Wardens on their
performances that day , and the Senior Deacon on the way in which he had discharged his duties in the ceremony of passing . With such Officers and with such a Master as was at the head of the Lodge they certainly had bright prospects in view , ancl it seemed certain they would make the Rose Lodge one of the most prosperous in South London .
Bro . G . Hall S . W . 158 added his thanks . He had had the pleasure of being present on the night when the members had made a presentation to Bro . Loader P . M . Sec , ancl was then very much impressed with the way its affairs were managed . Other of the Visitors also responded to the toast . The W . M . next presented , in complimentary terms , the toast of the Past Masters , Treasurer , and Secretary . He had much pleasure in the knowledge that the Lodge had several prominent Past Masters ; on the night of his installation no less than twelve such were present , and it was not many Lodges—or at least Lodges
of their age—which could boast as much . Their Treasurer Bro . Dunn was one of the best . He was well known in the parish of Camberwell ; ancl he also took great care of the Lodge funds . The W . M . next specially referred to the Secretary ancl other among the Past Masters , one ancl all of whom , he felt , entertained the best feelings towards him , as was also the case with the Brethren generally .
Bro . Potter I . P . M . returned thanks on behalf of the 'Past Masters . Anything they did was really a-labour of love , and he felt sure he could promise that anything they did at the present they would continue to do in the future . The W . M . had referred to parish affairs . He was proud of being Mr . Councillor Potter , of Stepney , was proud to say his fellow workers there were mostly Freemasons , and proud indeed that he was one of them .
Bro . Treasurer followed , congratulating the W . M . on his performances on behalf of the Lodge that day . So long as the Brethren placed the same confidence in him as they had hitherto done he should be well rewarded . Bro . Loader Secretary thanked the W . M . for having coupled his name with the toast . He had seen every Master instal his successor in the Lodge , ancl hoped to be with them for many more years . He was at all times at their service .
The toast of the Officers was next given from the chair . The W . M . was proud to say they had admirably fulfilled their duties . No matter what Office he was called upon to fill he was always ready . The other Officers of the Lodge were equally proficient . The toast was acknowledged .
The Tyler ' s toast concluded the meeting , which throughout had been of the most enjoyable description . A caoital musical programme was provided , under the direction of Bro . F . E . Choveaux , those who favoured the company including

Potter a humorous song , Bro . Valentine Hill a laughable recitation , and Mr . Antonio Metcalfe also gave some excellent songs .

Thomas Robinson . The Worshipful Master initiated Mr . Stephen Scudamore and Dr . Alfred Allport , M . R . C . S ., L . R . C . P . into Freemasonry . The charge in the first degree was well delivered by the Immediate Past Master Bro . Mead .
The Worship ful Master offered himself as Steward for' the next Festival of the Royal Masonic Institution for Girls , in May 1 9 , and the Secretary offered himself as Steward for the Festival of the Royal Masonic Benevolent Institution . After this the Lodge was closed , and the Brethren adjourned to a banquet .
The usual toasts followed . Brother E . C . Mulvey P . G . P . responded to the toast of the Grand Officers , and complimented the Lodge on the way in which the work had been done , and on the admirable support always given to the Masonic Charities . Bro . Mead I . P . M . proposed the toast of the Worshipful Master ,
remarking that he told the Brethren the last time the Lodge met that , if they came to see the working of the Worshipful Master , they would be pleased . From what they had seen that evening , he was sure they would say that the way in which the W , M . had carried it put was a credit to the Lodge and to himself ,
