AT the first meeting of the Board of Stewards for the approaching Festival of this Institution Sir John B . Monckton P . G . W . was appointed Chairman of the Board . The annual distribution of prizes to the pupils will take place on the Monday previous to the Festival ( 16 th May ) , when Lady Hanson will officiate , supported by Sir Reginald Hanson , Bart ., M . P ., P . G . W . the President ofthe year .

Preceptor , E . J . Sogers P . M . Treas ., G . D . Mogford P . M . Sec , C . Halston S . D ., H . Smith J . D ., C . E . Lilley I . G ., F . Wortham W . M . 733 , T . W . Mogford P . M ., C . W . Dyer , J . Wynman , and several others .

The W . M . rehearsed the ceremony of initiation , Bro . Eogers candidate . Lodge vvas called off and on . The W . M . invited Bro . Wortham of the Mother Lodge to take the chair , which he did , and rehearsed the ceremony of passing , Bro . Bagnall candidate . Tho W . M . resumed the chair , when it was proposed

by the Preceptor , and seconded by the Treasurer , that a hearty vote of thanks be recorded on the minutes to the W . M ., for so ably rendering the ceremony for the first timo . We must also congratulate him on his perfect working . The compliment vvas duly acknowledged . Bro . Beesley was elected W . M . for next Tuesday .

LEOPOLD LODGE , No . 1571 . ryiHURSDAY , 31 st ult ., at the Moorgate Tavern , Moorgate Street , was 1 Officers' night , and an excellent meeting was held , there being present several members of the Mother Lodge , as well as members of the Instruction Lodge . The chair was taken by Bro . J . Longford VV . M . of the Mother Lodge ,

and he was supported by Bros . G . Howell S . W ., C . Morris J . W ., D . Harlow P . M . Preceptor , H . J . Meadows P . M . Sec , J . Wood S . D ., E . Lee J . D ., H . Down I . G ., W . Barker W . M . 1607 Organist , Hampson P . M ., Saunion P . M ., Joseph and James Durell , A . Simmonds , A . Watts , Barker jun ., 3 . Harrison , W . Kyle , E . Petley , J . Wynman , and others .

The ceremony of initiation was rehearsed , Bro . Eyle candidate . Bro . Barker jun . was examined and entrusted , tbe Lodge opened in the second degree , and the ceremony of passing rehearsed , after which the W . M . gave the full description of the working tools . The duties of the chair wer « most impressively performed .

The W . M . informed the Brethren that the Lod ge would adjourn till Thursday , 14 th inst ., on which evening Bro . G . Horwell will preside as Worshipful Master . Brethren wishing to join a good Lodge could hardl y do better than visit this one , which enjoys in Bro . D . Harlow an excellent Preceptor .

Bro . Myall was unanimously elected a member , and Bro . Wetton chosen as W . M . for the next meeting , on Monday , 18 th inst .

Provincial.

PROVINCIAL .

INDUSTRY LODGE , No . 48 . THE annual meeting was held on Monday , 28 th ult ., in the Masonic Hall , Jackson Street , Gateshead . There was a very large attendance of Brethren , some of them having come a long distance , including one Brother who travelled from the continent , showing the high esteem and regard in whioh the Worshipful Master-elect Bro . Holzapfel is held .

In the evening , the Brethren adjourned to the Royal Hotel , Prince Consort Eoad , where an excellent dinner was provided , presided over by the Worshipful Master . After the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts had been duly honoured , the proceedings were still further enlivened by the rendering of vocal music by Bros . Guthrie , Craven , Gibbon , Lyall , and E . Ferry .

GOOCH LODGE , No . 1295 . THE installation of Bro . F . E . Streeten P . M . 1848 , as Worshipful Master took place on Thursday , 24 th ult ., at the Queen ' s Eoyal Hotel , New Swindon . The installation ceremony was performed by the D . P . G . M . Bro . 0 . N . P . Phipps , Bro . E . ( Tarrant acting as Director of Ceremonies , and introducing the D . P . G . M . and Provincial Officers in Masonic form .

After the closing of the Lodge the Brethren sat down to a banquet , admirably served under the superintendence of Mr . J . Crewe .

o o o COTEHELE LODGE , No . 2166 . THE annual installation and banquet was held at Calstock , on tho 28 th ult ., Bro . Dr . Albert Bowhay being installed Master for the ensuing year by his predecessor Major J . G . Shanks . After the banquet the customary toasts were honoured . The chief one of the evening was submitted by Bro . Sowdeu P . P . G . S . who said they were

all pleased to see in the chair a Brother who had worked himself up through the Lodge . Bro . Sowden reviewed the History of the Lodge , which , ue said , had now grown so large as to necessitate the erection of a Lodge room of their own . It was a matter for consideration , but he thought it would prove the commencement of tbe Lodge building for Calstock .

The W . M ., in replying , said if the Brethren really wished to have a building worthy of their numbers he would do all in his power to accomplish the desired end . It was a matter that would require considerable consideration , and take time to bring it about . He trusted to be favoured with the assistance of the Brethren in carrying out the duties of his important office . He hoped that at the end of his year he would be found to have reflected credit on tbe Lodge .

The I . P . M . of Cotehele Bro . Major J . G . Shanks P . M . was proposed by the Worshipful Master , who said the Lodge had gained by having had Bro . Major Shanks as Master . They were very much indebted to him for tbe way be had performed the duties of the Lodge , and the general effect of his Mastership was that the working had generally improved . They had learnt a lot from him , and were very grateful to him for his services .

Eesponding , Bro . Major J . G . Shanks thanked the Brethren for the reception the Lodge had accorded him . He had been treated in a manner which he should never forget . He should never be able to do too much f > t Cotehele , but hoped to be able to show in some degree his appreciation of the kindness which had been shown him . During his year of office he had travelled over a thousand miles to fill the chair of the Lodge , and over six thousand miles to fill his various chairs in Masonry .

LLANGATTOCK LODGE , No . 2547 . THE annual festival was celebrated at the Masonic Temple , Cardiff , on Monday , 28 th ult ., in the presence of Bro . Marmaduke Tennant D . P . G . M ., there being a large attendance of members and visitors , the latter hailing from all parts of the Eastern Division of South Wales . Bro . Samuel Jones was ably installed as Worshipful Master for the ensuing year by Bro . Charles Jones the retiring W . M ., who was presented by Bro . the Eev . D . J . Sproule , on behalf of the Initiates , with a handsome silver tea service and salver , bearing a suitable inscription .

In the evening the Brethren dined together at the Park Hotel , where the usual toast list was gone through .

QUEEN VICTORIA LODGE , No . 2655 . THE installation meeting was held at St . Budeaux , on Wednesday , 6 th inst ., when Bro . E . Page was installed as ruler for the year . During the evening Bro . Major J . G . Shanks I . P . M . asked the Lodge ' s acceptance of a framed picture of the Queen . Tbe newly-installed W . M ., in proposing a vote of thanks to the donor ,

reminded the Brethren that during bis year of office Bro . Major Shanks had made several gifts to the Lodge . They owed him a debt of gratitude for the way he had carried out his duties as Master . The Brethren were very grateful to him , and felt that the success of the year was due in a great measure to the working under Bro . Shanks .

Bro . Perring seconded the vote , which was supported by Bro . W . J . Pearce , who said the Brethren were convinced of the ability of Bro . Shanks . He had never seen an installation ceremony better carried out than it had been that night .. In replying , the I . P . M . remarked that he had performed ninety-nine Craft degrees during the past twelve months , during which time he had travelled over 6 , 200 miles in the interests of Masonry .

In the evening the Brethren dined together at the Park Hotel , where the usual toast list was gone through .

QUEEN VICTORIA LODGE , No . 2655 . THE installation meeting was held at St . Budeaux , on Wednesday , 6 th inst ., when Bro . E . Page was installed as ruler for the year . During the evening Bro . Major J . G . Shanks I . P . M . asked the Lodge ' s acceptance of a framed picture of the Queen . Tbe newly-installed W . M ., in proposing a vote of thanks to the donor ,

reminded the Brethren that during bis year of office Bro . Major Shanks had made several gifts to the Lodge . They owed him a debt of gratitude for the way he had carried out his duties as Master . The Brethren were very grateful to him , and felt that the success of the year was due in a great measure to the working under Bro . Shanks .

Bro . Perring seconded the vote , which was supported by Bro . W . J . Pearce , who said the Brethren were convinced of the ability of Bro . Shanks . He had never seen an installation ceremony better carried out than it had been that night .. In replying , the I . P . M . remarked that he had performed ninety-nine Craft degrees during the past twelve months , during which time he had travelled over 6 , 200 miles in the interests of Masonry .
