Dodd responded to this toast , and then said he had the permission of the W . M . to propose the next toast . That was the Masonic Press . There were but two

Maaonicjournalsin this country—the FREEMASON ' S CHRONICLE and the Freemason . Both gave Masonic information from all parts of the world . He , and numerous friends read the articles and reports iu the FREEMASON ' S CHRONICLE with great pleasure . The conductors gave faithful and unbiassed reports . They had Bro . Levy , one of its

representatives , present . They were all pleased to see him , and he ( Bro . Dodd ) had great pleasure in associating his name with the toast . Bro . Levy in responding , thanked Bro . Dodd for his kind remarks , and for the euloginms passed on the FREEMASON ' S CHRONICLE . Ifc was a source of pleasure to listen to them . He know the

FREEMASON ' S CHRONICLE would continue in the same course ;—he hoped to their satisfaction . The toasts of the Treasnrer , Secretary , Wardens , and Officers were consecutively given nnd responses made . The Tyler ' s toasfc closed the proceedings , and the brethren separated , after spending a very agreeable aud harmonious evening .

THE regular meeting of this Lodge was held on the 4 th instant , at tho Freemasons' Tavern , Great Queen-street . A . J . Martin W . M ., J . W . Dewsnap S . W ., L . Wall J . W ., J . S . Israel and J . Van Praagh were balloted for and afterwards initiated into the Order by the W . M ., the Officers being perfect in their work . Bros . Bulford , Jacobs and Thomas wero passed to the second degree . Two propositions for initiation were handed in , and Lodge was closed until October ; the brethren then adjourned to the Crown

Room to banquet . At its conclusion tho W . M . proposed the usual toasts . That of the Benevolent Fund attached to the Lodge was responded toby Bro . H . M . Levy , as senior Vice President . Restated the Fund of Benevolence had formerly £ 1400 in hand , but now , in consequence of many liberal grants , it stood afc only £ 700 . He

hoped tbo brethren would by their donations increase it to its maximum , and that appeals for its help might be less frequent . In the absence of the I . P . M . ( Bro . Bean ) , who was unfortunately indisposed , Bro . Levy proposed the health of the W . M . Ho had that evening ably presided over them , showing his capability of performing

the ceremony of initiation and passing . His experience as P . M . of another influential Lodge had better qualified him to fill the position of W . M . in the Joppa . The W . M . thanked Bro . Levy for his remarks . Ho had been suffering from a severe illness , but had carried out his duties to the best of his ability . His greatest

endeavour would be to cement good feeling in the Lodge . He had a pleasing duty to perform—to propose the toast of the Initiates . He had initiated many brethren in another Lodge , bufc never gentlemen of greater promise thad those he had admitted that night . They had paid snch attention to the ceremony he was sure they would be a

credit to tho Order , and bo raised to high position in ifc . Bro . Israel , in responding , hoped to become one of whom the Order and the Lodge wonld be proud . Bro . Van Praagh followed , in an excellent speech . Tho toast of the Visitors was given , and Bros . Stunt and Rawlings responded . Bros . Dodson and Lazaius responded as

Past Masters , and then the W . M . proposed the Officers of the Lodge . Bro . J . W . Dewsnap acknowledged the toast , and the Tyler gave the parting toast . The Visitors were Bros . Stunt 1320 , Rawlins 16 G , and Weston 1929 . Tho W . M . had secured the

services of several talented artistes for the entertainment , of the brethren , and under the direction of the Organist , Bro . P . E . Van Noorden , they ably fulfilled their part . The artistes were Miss Pauline Featherhy , Miss Edith Desmond , and Bro . Weston . Dr . Armand Seinple also favoured the brethren with some capital songs .

Lodge was opened in clue form with solemn prayer , and the minutes wore road and confirmed . After the usual preliminaries Bros . Brazier and Scarr were raised to the third degree . A vote of condolence with the late Bro . Rogers was

adopted , as also one of congratulation to Tiro . Dr . Lylo ou his marriage with tho daughter of tho founder of tlie Lodge , Bro . the Rev . F . Sheppard P . M . P . P . G . C . The Lodge was their closed . After dinner the usual Loyal and Masonic toasts were duly honoured . Bro . Dehane in proposing the health of the W . M . congratulated him on

his excellent working , and on the fact of his having good Officers . Bro . Rattray was pleased and gratified that his work wns appreciated ; he hoped to see those brethren of the Lodge who lived ' at a distance

ON Friday , the 1 st inst ., there was an emergency meeting of this Lodge at the Queen ' s Hotel , York , for the purpose of passing a formal resolution to remove the place of meeting of the Lodge to the Eboracum Masonio Hall , St . Saviourgate . Brother J . Blenkin I . P . M . was in the chair , and there was a good muster of the brethren for the last time in the house which has sheltered them since their

formation in 1876 . The formal business was soon completed , and the Lodge closed , aud the whole party then adjourned to supper in the old Lodge-room . Iu proposing success to the Eboracum Lodge , Bro . T . B . Whytehead P . M . reviewed the history of the Lodge from its opening in that room by the Earl of Zetland nearly nine veara

previously ; the work it had achieved , the losses it had sustained , and the prospects which were now before ifc . The toasfc was drunk with the greatest enthusiasm , and the utmost cordiality prevailed

THIS Lodge , —consecrated two years since , during which time its careeer has been one of marked success , —entered on its third year on Monday , the 4 th inst ., when Brother George Wright waa installed as W . M . for the ensning year . Brother C E . Botley W . M . presided , and was supported by his Immediate Past Master Brother W . Roebnck P . G . S . and the Officers of the Lodge . Tbe minutes of

the last meeting having been confirmed , the business of the evening was proceeded with ; this embraced the reception of the report of the Standing Committee ; the raising of Bro A . Louis Sacrd , C . E ., of the Royal Sussex Lodge , No . 53 , Bath , the passing of Bro . Russell , the installation of the Worshipful Master , the appointment and

investiture of Officers , and the balloting of Bro . Sacre as a joining member . All of this business was carried out in due order . A special feature of the installation was the formal opening of the Board of Installed Masters , which was carried out in detail . The following brethren were appointed to office : —Broa . F . Botley deserves great praise for the way in which he carried out his duties , his rendering of the installation ceremony being especially satisfactory , and it fully realised fche expectations—and

these were high—which had been previously entertained by brethren who knew him . Lodge was formally closed , and the brethren proceeded to the Lyric Hall , Ealing , to partake of banquet . Here Bro . Stephens had made every provision for the enjoyment of his patrons . The tables were bountifully supplied and wero set ont in artistic

style . Tho menu was a most liberal one , and the service was in keeping with the surroundings . On the removal of the cloth , the usual toasts were done honour to , the Queen and the Craffc , fche M . W , tho Grand Master H . R . H . the Prince of Wales , the Pro Grand Master , the Depnty Grand Master , and the rest of fche

Grand Officers Present and Past , having each been proposed and heartily received , the I . P . M . submitted the toast of the W . M ., and in a neat speech referred to Bro . Wright ' s Masonio career and ability . Bro . Wright in due course responded , aud continued with tho proposition of the toast of the Past Masters . He presented to

his predecessor a handsome Past Master ' s jewel , accompanying the presentation with some well-chosen remarks . The jewel bore the following inscription : " Presented to Bro . Charles Edward Botley by tbe Brethren of the Priory Lodge of Acton , No . 1996 , in appreciation of his efficient services as W . M . dnring the year 1884-1885 . "

Speaking of Bro . Roebnck , the first Master , tho W . M . said the Lodge was greatly indebted to him for much of the success which had attended it . His position in the Craffc bad no doubt influenced those in authority in favourably considering the petition for the Warrant , while his ability and experience had stood them in good stead in their

earlier clays . He trusted the Lodge might long enjoy fche benefit of the services , advice , and co-operation of its present Past Masters . Bros . Botley and Roebuck each responded , the former thanking fche Lodge for the jewel they had been pleased to bestow on him , and the latter expressing his satisfaction afc the progress of

the Lodge , and assnring the members that the interest be had taken in the Lodge would bo sustained , if not strengthened , in the future . Ho referred to the support already given by the Lodgo to the Masonic Charities , the Boys' School having had the benefit of the services of ono of its members as Steward , while the Girls

School would find a representative from among their members in tho person of their present Worshipfnl Master . The interest Brother Roebuck takes in the Institutions is fully recognised , and his advocacy of their claim on this occasion will doubtless bear good fruit . The toast of tho Visitors was given from the chair , the W . M .

according to each a most cordial reception . The toast was acknowledged by Bros . P . A . Latham , Pickering , Andrews and others . Other toasts were given and full response was made .
