CONSECRATION OF A NEW LODGE AT SANDOWN .

rnHE Right Worshipful the Provincial Grand Master of Hampshire JL and the Ialo of Wight ( Bro . W . W . B . Beach , M . P . ) , assisted by the Worthy D . P . G . M . ( Bro . Hickman ) and other Provincial Officers , paid a visit on Wednesday , 22 nd nit ., to the rising town of Sandowu , Isle of Wight , for the purpose of consecrating the Sandowu Lodge , No . 18 G 9 , to be hold at the Royal Pier Hotel , which , having a splendid sea view , is well patronised by visitors . There was a large

muster of brethren to witness the inauguration of a Lodge which has a promising i ' ntnre beforo it , and the only drawback in connection with the proceedings was tho overcrowding of the room iu the hotel in which the ceremony was performed . Tho Lcdgo was opened at two p . m ., witli the P . G . M . in the chair , and Bro . Capt . T . H . Martin ,

R . N ., Prov . G . S . Warden , and Bro . H . P . Bronucker Prov . G . J . Wardon , in the Wardens' chairs . After the Lodgo had been opened in due form , the Prov . Grand Master , addressing tlie brethren , said they were inofc there that day on a very interesting and important occasion , to constitute a now Lodgo in Freemasonry . It was an important event , and one that would exercise no slight influence on the future

of Freemasonry in tho district in which it was to be established . When they wero constituting a Lodge it behoved them to look around , and consider what ifc was thoy were about to do . They win : about to constitute a Lodge in order to propagate thoso principles of Freemasonry which had been handed down fiotn their forefathers , and which thoy desired leave and scope to extend . They desired to conduct thoso ceremonies which had been practised

for so many years by thoso who had gone beforo them , and to do this in a manner that would reflect credit upon the Lodge and impress the mind of tho neophyte with a due appreciation of , and reverence for , tho ceremony in which he had been engaged . lie would not detain thorn with a lengthened exposition of tho history of their Order , or the greit work which it had conducted through many generations .
