opposition they are likely to meet with will press them very heavily , and lead to all kinds of insinuations as to their motives . Whatever is done or aimed at we hope that calm counsels will prevail , and that the aim of the

reformers will not be misunderstood , or too harshly criticised by the fossilated members who prefer that things should go on as they have done , rather than that our ancient principles should run any risk of being modernised—and , it may be urged , somewhat improved .

THE Quarterly Convocation was held on Wednesday , at Freemasons' Hall , under the presidency of Comp . W . W . B . Beach , M . P ., who was supported by Gen . Eandolph and Col . Gerard Noel Money in the

other Principals' chairs , Comp . E . Letchworth S . E ., Thomas Fenn as S . N ., Peter de Lande Long as Principal Sojourner , Baron de Ferrieres and E . Loveland-Loveland as Assistant Sojourners .

After the reading of the minutes , Comp . J . E . Le Feuvre rose to move the proposition standing in his name , as to the non-confirmation of that part of the minutes relating to the resolution agreed to at the last

meeting , substituting four weeks for twelve months in Eule 73 of the Eegulations . We deal with this subject elsewhere in this issue , and therefore it is only necessary to say here that the discussion was continued by Comps .

J . S . Cumberland and Mclntyre North , and after a few remarks by the acting Z was put to the vote , with the result that the minutes were confirmed by 83 votes to 65 .

The following report of the Committee of General Purposes was then submitted : To the Supreme Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of England .

The Committee of General Purposes beg to report that they have examined the Accounts from the 18 th October 1893 , to the 16 th January 1894 , both inclusive , which they find to be as follows : — £ s di £ s d

William Morris as H ., John Craine as J ., and twenty others for a Chapter to be attached to the St . Maughold Lodge , No . 1075 , Ramsey , Isle of Man , to he called " The St . Maughold Chapter , " and to meet at the Masonic Rooms , Ramsey , Isle of Man .

The consideration of this Petition was deferred at the last Convocation of the Supreme Grand Chapter until the Returns of tho Chapters of the Petitioners have been fully made . Since the

meeting of the Grand Chapter , the Lodge , No . 1075 , has withdrawn its sauction for the Chapter to be attached to it , and tho Petitioners from that Lodge have also withdrawn , the Chapter not being required .

Petitions have also been received : — 1 st . From Companions Charles Henry Reid Todd as Z ., William Fountain Woods as H ., Charles Henry Cumberland as J ., and six others for a Chapter to be attached to the Imperial Lodge , No . 1694 , London , to be called " The Imperial Chapter , " and to meet at Cloot ' s Restaurant , Victoria Street , London .

2 nd . From Companions Frederick Ernest Pocock , M . D ., as Z ., Lennox Browne as H ., Henry Walter Kiallmark as J ., and . sixteen others for a Chapter to be attached to the iEsc \ ilapius Lodge , No . 2410 , London , to be called " The iEsculapius Chapter , " and to meet at the Criterion Restaurant , Piccadilly , London .

3 rd . From Companions Samuel Gerard Kirchhoffer , M . A ., 1 st Grand Standard Bearer , as Z ., Major Oswald James Henry Ball as H ., Lt .-Col . Stephen James Melville Jopp as J ., and seven others for a Chapter to be attached to the Wellesley Lodge , No . 1899 , Sandhurst , to be called " The Wellesley Chapter , " and to meet at the Wellington Hotel , Crowthome , Berkshire .

The foregoing Petitions being in all respects regular , the Committee recommend that the prayers thereof be respectively granted . The Committeo have likewise to report that tbey have received

a Memorial from the Companions of the Chapter Stone of Friendship Ezel , No . 287 , Stockport , Cheshire , praying for a Charter authorising them to wear a Centenary Jewel , in accordance with the Royal Arch Regulations , Rule 102 . The Memorial being in form , and the Chapter having proved an

uninterrupted existence of 100 years , tho Committee recommend that the prayer thereof bo granted . The Committee have also received Memorials with extracts of

Minutes , for permission to remove the following Chapters : — The Elias Ashmole Chapter , No . 148 , Warrington , from the Masonic Rooms , Sankey Street , to Rooms in St . Austin ' s Chambers , Bold Street , in the same Town .

The Princo Frederick William Chapter , No . 753 , London , from Lord's Hotel , St . John ' s Wood , to the Frascati Restaurant , No . 32 Oxford Street , London . The Bedford Chapter , No . 282 , Tavistock , from the Private Room , Abbey , to the Freemasons' Hall , No . 84 West Street , in the same Town .

The Alexander Chapter , No . 1661 , Newark-on-Trent , from the Savings Bank , to the Masonic Hall , in the same Town . The Committee being satisfied of the reasonableness of the above requests , recommend that the removal of thete Chapters Le sanctioned .

The Committee have likewise received the following applications , viz .: —from the Shakespeare Chapter , No . 284 , Warwick , and from the Trinity Chapter , No . 254 , Coventry . 1 . A Memorial praying that the Shakespeare Chapter , No . 284 ,

maybe detached from the Lodge , No . 284 , Warwick , and attached to the Temperance Ledge , No . 739 , Birmingham , both Ledges having given their consent , ai ; d that the Chapter may te called "Tho Temperance Chapter , " and meet at the Masonic Hall , New Street , Birmingham , Warwickshire .

2 . A Memorial praying that the Trinity Chapter , No . 254 , Coventry , may be detached from the Ledge , l \ b . 254 , and attached to tho St . Michael ' s Lodge , No . 1630 , Coventry , Warwickshire , and that it be called The St . Michael ' s Chapter . Both Lodges have given their consent .

The Committee recommend that the prayers of these Memorials be granted , subject to the receipt of the consent of the Grand Superintendent in the case of the Trinity Chapter , No . 254 , Coventry . The Committee have received the following notice of Motion

for Grand Chapter from Comp . John Emihus Le Feuvre P . Grand Sword Bearer , " That tho Resolution passed by Grand Chapter on the 1 st November , substituting four weeks for twelve months in

Rule 73 of the Royal Arch Regulations te not confirmed , and that this Grand Chapter resolves that the words ' three Calendar months' be inserted in Rule 73 instead of ' twelve Calendar months . '"

The following Chapters having exalted Candidates before tbe expiration of twelve months from the dates of raising , viz .: — The Fletcher Chapter , No . 1031 , Birmingham . The Chapter Harmony , No . 220 , Garston .

in violation of Rule 73 of the Book of Royal Arch Regulations , the Committee ordered that the Chapters be censured and the Candidates re-obligated , and that the Chapter Harmony , No . 220 , Garston , be fined £ 1 ls also .

The Committee recommend that , Grand Ledge having increased the Salaries of the Clerks in the Office of the Giand Secretary , the Grand Chapter pay its proportion of the same , viz . : — One fourth . ( Signed ) ROBERT GREY ,

The prayers of the petitions for the creation of the Imperial , JEseulapius and Wellesley Chapters were granted , as also were the requests of the other petitioners dealt with in the Eeport .

Comp . Eobert Grey lormally moved the proposition to increase the payment from Grand Chapter on account of salaries in the office of the Grand Secretary . Comp . J . E . Le Feuvre objected . The receipts of

Grand Chapter in two years had been £ 3 , 200 , and the cost of the office £ 2 , 100 , or two-thirds . Grand Chapter did not make the best use of its money . Last year it invested nothing , but it paid £ 150 to the Benevolent

Institution . Another special grant was 100 guineas to " the same Institution on its Jubilee ; another was 100 guineas to the Shadwell Gierke Fund ; the handsome sum of 10 guineas to the Boys School , and the same

handsome sum to the Girls . The expenses of the office were largely out of proportion to the amount that should be paid for the management of the Eoyal Arch Degree . The present was not the time for increasing these office expenses .

Comp . Eichard Eve P . G . T . rose to second Comp . Le Feuvre ' s proposal . Comp . F . A . Philbrick said the only question was

whether Grand Chapter should pay its proportion . Whatever resolution was come to , it would not affect the office salaries . Comp . Eichard Eve said that was a cunningly-devised

statement of the Grand Eegistrar . The expenses of
